Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I hate Ewoks, the non-existent crew of troops on Endor that magically disappeared and did nothing when the battle happened; I hate Mon Mothma, Nien Numb, and all the useless characters.....I hate Fett's cheesy death and Leia downgraded to a grunt basically; I hate the sabre duel at the end because it barely was one....I hate a lot of things about "Return of the Jedi" actually....

Really, Ewoks ready to roast people with clothes (or hair) still on? No gutting and skinning???

"An entire legion of my best troops" says Palpatine....hahaha ok. I wonder what the entry level troops could do then.

So for all who nitpick TFA, continuously bash prequels, and worship the OT, don't forget how dumb ROTJ was first.

My best troops defeated by teddy bears. Yeah that was bad. The teddy bears needed to be cute and then when the battle started be more bad ass and militaristic.

I love Jedi. It and Raiders of the Lost Ark have always been and always will be my two favorite movies but it's cool you don't like it.

To the very few mean people that have posted here that is how you disagree with someone without trashing them.

Tom,

You are a cool guy who is full of passion.

Don't lose it. I consider you a deep thinker like me, and a new friend.

And I suspect that is exactly what happened to the OP. He is such a HUGE fan and built this up in his mind and his emotions are hurt from the result. While some don't see how he can be so mad, we are not him and don't know exactly how he is feeling. This emotional feeling is probably justified for him, and while some might not understand that, there is nothing wrong with getting it out. Better to get it off you chest in a forum than to explode and be violent :lol.

Yeah. I really was not going to post anything but just had to get it out.

We are a no drama family. I hate toxic, dramatic people. No addicts, etc. I don't do drama.

Even after Indy IV I was mad it sucked but I have never actually been depressed about a bad movie. Yeah it sucked, bitch about with my friend and get on with my day. I guess because the OT for me was so awesome and the wait was so long, it was never going to be made , then it was, then it wasn't, now it is, but it's delayed because JJ wants to focus more on the OT cast, which obviously was not true.

Then being convinced there was far more than being shown in the trailers when in fact they showed it all. That was it.

I have seriously rarely been depressed and never over something as silly as a movie but man I wanted to die yesterday. Just such a let down.

It sucks, it will always suck and it will never grow on me. Just like the prequels never have or KOTCS. But at least today I feel like me again.

Plus I appreciate all the fellow members who did not like it and defending my right to say it.

Thanks

Tom

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Couple the OT experience with ones childhood it's literally part of your life experience. So for thirty years I have wondered about my heroes and their lives after ROTJ. Imagining a happy long marriage with kids, new good guys., Luke "passing on what he has learned." The restored Republic for another long reign before something started rotting inside again. OR maybe some extenal threat, another galaxys evil invading or something. That was why I thought Lucas reallly had no where to go after ROTJ. Empire was gone. I suppose you could have new Jedi tracking down troublemakers but that's not war material.
So kind of a lot to accept that all of them got really bad fates.

Amen. I always felt the EU was overdone. How much war and conflict can one group go through so yes, exactly. Since we are doing a 32 year jump what happened, can't wait to see. Well it was all bad again.

On another note WTH it is that the Jedi being sooo weak they keep getting wiped out by a couple guys?????

I already stated the case for ROTJ being a dumb movie in detail....

It has its moments, but overall a cheese fest.

Well Round Table pizza is my favorite food on earth so that might explain why I love Jedi. :)

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Okay I have to ask, why all the hate for ROTJ?

Don't get me wrong. Totally cool that you don't like it but other than the Ewoks, which I think were fun and I don't remember poeople hating at the time, but looking back they could have been done better what's to hate???

Jabba, awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

Emperor, awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vader death, awesome!!!!!!!!!

Epic Space Battle, awesome!!!

A few little things like Boba's death, too short a lightsaber battle, etc. but overall awesomeness.

I get people love ESB although to be honest it is third in my list even though I consider them all one film.

Ewoks aside why do people not like Jedi??

It was my favorite and still is.

It's okay, I don't get my feelings hurt from other people's opinions. What is wrong with the ORIGINAL CUT of ROTJ?

Tom
I'll give you a complete answer later today. I'm presently out with the family. Stay tuned.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Well we DO like it but nothing like the others, too many muppets is the short answer. LOL
The palace had a lot of silly stuff, really torture a droids feet by burning them? WTF?
Singing and dance number? I get he was trying to one up the Cantina scene I guess but it was horrid.
Scout biker chase was ok I guess but CHiPs was popular so maybe that's why bikes were in it.
All the Yoda/Dagobah stuff felt rushed and bad writing to solve loose ends. "Certain point of view". Ugh.
Han seemed actually less intelligent in this one for some reason.
And yeah, really another death star? I mean I knew that going in but it still doesn't make sense to me.
Well other than a bytchin internal run into a death star and amazing reactor blow up escape.

I loved the Jabba stuff but yeah Han seemed uninterested thanks to Harrison(I won the lottery three times)Ford.

I did not mind the Death Star but that needed to be THE LAST TIME.

Yes, the "Certain point of view" line was total BS. It should have been, "I lied to protect you. Deal with it"

But it still rocked. I just love Jedi. I was shocked when I learned how many die hard fans did not like Jedi.

Re: Easter Eggs, Mirroring of the OT in The Force Awakens (SPOILERS INSIDE)

In Rey's vision, at some part she is inside a corridor similar to cloud's city where vader fought skywalker.

Well done on being the only person on earth who had a feeling Han would die in this film.

well I was "yelled" at by like 6 people who apparently thought he was immortal or something and was supposed to come back and apologize for thinking he would die and about my thought's on Luke. so if I don't respond im a bad guy, if I do respond I am a bad guy. im just a bad guy I guess

Remember that picture of the table read when they were first all sat together reading the script?

Do you reckon Hammill was just playing angry birds the whole time?

he was doing the important task of growing his beard.

and there was free food

Thank you. Very kind. Yeah I do think a lot and most of the time about actual important stuff but I kind of envy people who are able to just chill and not think too much. They seem to be less stressed, but I like contemplating stuff. Again usually important stuff but you got to have fun as well.

My wife gets on me about it but I like knowing things and being aware of what is going on. I spend most free time actually researching and keeping up on world events, politics, and so on. I tell my students to pay attention to the world. It's far more interesting and dramatic than anything the Kardashians do.

Thanks again.

Tom

Seriously I have typed more yesterday and today than I have this entire passed year on this forum.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

ROTJ was great in '83 and it's still great. At some point it became cool to hate it- not sure when that happened. Right after the inner child died, I'm guessing. Great movie. Cheesy? Sure. Repeats of ideas? Sure.

But great stuff all the same.

Finally got to see it last night. I saw it in 3D which I was hoping wasn't a mistake. It wasn't.

I left very happy. I had read all the spoilers and leaked synopsis and didn't have high hopes but you know, I really enjoyed it.

Honestly I think my 2 biggest gripes were 1) 3PO's appearance and lines and 2) the end scene stare off was way too long. I can live with both of those.

There was a 6 or 7 year old boy sitting next to me and I couldn't help but look over at him a few times throughout the movie. It reminded me of myself sitting there watching ROTJ. He didn't move the entire movie.. he just sat there with his jaw open. That's when I thought, It really doesn't matter what all of us grown *** men think. Star Wars has already shaped our lives with its imagination inspiring story and effects.. It's this kids turn now.

Someone else mentioned the cheese and I said the same thing. My favorite food in the world is Round Table Pizza so that must be why I love Jedi.

Ewoks rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Needed to be more hardcore in the battle,...sure. But they still rule.

I find it a bit confusing that the Resistance theme sounds like a variation of the Droid army theme from The Phantom Menace ... or is it just me that find them similar?

You're not alone I heard that too, and found it very distracting. Ironically though there's a lot of beautiful music in the prequels.

TFA's score on the other hand I found horrendous.

I never heard Obi Wan shout Rey, but he did tell Luke to hurry in star wars, so if they cropped the beginning of that off, they could get Alec Guiness saying Rey, or close enough.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I loved it.

Perhaps those of you who hate it wanted more of technology history factual film. This is more what I think Lucas was trying to do with the prequels...a history and all the pieces needed to fit.

For me Star Wars is just a good time with cool stuff. I got that.

If you want science and history where everything falls more In place you got Star Trek.

A long time ago a critic noted there is no noise in space so why do the ships and lasers make the noises. There you go. This is just meant to be fun and who cares.

Go watch 2001 if you want more realism.

ANH is just as goofy, but you saw it when you were younger and were able to enjoy it. You're getting old dude. Haha

Many of us are getting old yes who were part of that 77 theater experience, so yeah I worry is that my problem?
but yet I can still love on goofy new stuff passionately.
Fury Road, Guardians of the Galaxy. Both material that I had consumed before in previous films or reading comics.
Abrams just manages to stroke our fur the wrong way every time. Though I think he is trying to pet us properly in his head.

Luke should have the minstrel from Python's holy grail doing his theme music "he boldly ran away, away the brave Jedi master "
Kylo has his blast shield down how is he supposed to fight ?

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

My biggest problems with the speeder bike chase are:

1 Trees and shrubs look too big when they are on the bikes compared to when the actors are walking near them.
2 Very little attempt to match up the light and shadows as they are flying through the trees, Luke and Liea evenly lit throughout.
3 Luke and Liea both jump off their bikes and land in bushes as if they had stepped off the back of a slow moving tortoise, the stormtroopers that come off slam into trees and explode.

Overall once the bikes start moving you never feel that they are really on them.

By comparison the scout walkers are beautifully integrated into the backgrounds.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Jedi... terrible film and I felt that at 12. The space battle is good and the shuttle tyderium is awesome.

Jabbas palace: Full of muppets, aweful dance number.
Boba dies like a bitch.
Kenobi is a liar.
EWOKS = Jar Jar of 1983
