Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

Re: "I loved or mostly loved TFA" - people only thread

I'll start by saying....fresh and inventive. I need a break but I hope to see many positives here. Safe haven from terrorist nitpicking.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

There are some people here that really need to lighten up.

I hope you guys can find happiness?

I kind of feel like you need to take your own advice there. I actually enjoyed the film overall but it did have some problems. Big ones that you don't even need to nitpick to see. It really shouldn't bother you that people discuss them, on a site full of movie dissecters, in a section for nitpicking movies, and a thread specifically set aside for discussing issues this one had.

It really is the right time and place for it.

My questions after seeing it was, how did they even find Lukes original saber? Wasn't it lost in cloud city.

The other would be if Luke was going into hiding, why would he make or leave a map to find him?

Positives were seeing the Falcon in action again. Minus all the crashing and what not. Reminded me of Star Trek Generations
Enterprise crash sequence.

Also Rey knew so much about the Falcon and Solo yet when she sees it, she says it is somebodies garbage? I laughed at that one.

So once they got the map all figured out, why was it agreed that Rey was the one to go find him? Did she come back and tell everyone "hey guys, I've got the force, I'm kind of a big deal, so let me go." And why didn't Leia go with?

I would say it was Leia who sent Rey to get Luke. Just like she sent Poe to Jakku on a special mission of great importance.

It really is the right place and time for it, so maybe have a coke and a smile.

Discussing\nitpicking a movie is one thing, but I think the part that joshvanrad is addressing are the people throwing around insults and vitriol towards people they don't even know. Thats just silly. I mean, I'm all for dissenting opinions, but when you have to call people idiots and morons to get your point across, you're not exactly presenting a critical analysis of a film. You're just throwing a tantrum.

Re: Easter Eggs, Mirroring of the OT in The Force Awakens (SPOILERS INSIDE)

The heroes' mentor/guide dies. Obi-Wan/Han

Mentor/guide's killer was by someone once close to them. Vader/Anakin, Kylo/Ben

So, I've seen the movie twice now and I really like it. Yes, its got some not so great parts, but it really felt like a Star Wars movie to me. Much more so then the prequels did. Also, I recognize that this is the first part of a series of films, and they know this, so not everything is going to be addressed in the first chapter. GL didn't know he was going to launch some massive cultural phenomenon when he made Star Wars, so he concentrated on making a stand alone film.

Han's death was worse then Kirk's in Star Trek.

Damn, he could've gone out guns blazing and it would've been so much better...

They actually took him out Curly Bill style, like in Tombstone. "Hand over your guns...I was just funnin'...bang, you're dead" Sneaky little ****!

Ya know, when he shot the sheriff?? Try and wash that comparison out of your mind!

If Han goes out, like you said it needs to be in a blaze of glory on the Falcon.

James T. Kirk also goes out only one way. In a blaze of glory on the Enterprise.

That's it.

Only other option is old men in their bed.

And Gandalf did it better. I know, I know, he lived, but you get me.

Maybe I missed that.... Can you point out when someone was called an idiot or moron?
There is no reason for that and I didn't think that was happening. I'd love to know what post number :)

EDIT: I got a PM with post #39 as the one where names were called. I guess calling the director an idiot is bad, lol.
People who liked it feel we shouldn't call anyone who made the film names. :lol
Man... You can look through the history of the RPF and see trashing of directors and their methods/choices. Even the mighty George Lucas has been dragged through the mud and called choice names for the prequels. Oh well..

Re: Easter Eggs, Mirroring of the OT in The Force Awakens (SPOILERS INSIDE)

There is a line near the end of the movie that the troopers discuss about the new BT-17s and how they are not so good. Mirroring/referencing the dialogue of the original troopers in the tractor beam discussing the older model of BT-16s.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

The best I can say is this film left me... Disappointed. When I first heard it was going to made, I was thinking "There is no episode 7!" As time passed, I got used to the idea. I was even looking forward to it. Then, some time ago, I became somewhat apprehensive. The more I saw in previews and exclusive clips, the less it looked like the Star Wars I knew. But I was going to give it the benefit of a viewing before I passed judgment. Well, like I said, it just didn't measure up.

It worked on some levels, but as a whole, I was somewhat underwhelmed. Even if they weren't the best in the saga, the prequels left me with a more Star Warsy feeling walking out of the theater than this did. The worst part was the underuse of Luke in the ending. Hopefully ep 8 can redeem the saga, but if Luke is Rey's father... I'm out.

It really is the right time and place for it.

I never said the movie was perfect. I never said it was without issue. The reason: because it's not a perfect movie and it does have issues. But so did the OT. Seriously, were people expecting a perfect movie? I can understand people dissecting the movie and discussing their issues with it, but that is not what this thread is about. This thread is about people that are livid pissed that the movie wasn't what they wanted. To me, that is stupid, childish, and misplaced.

The OT will never be matched again in terms of movie magic. It came out WAY ahead of it's time and revolutionized cinema and marketing. They will NEVER be able to capture that magic again in the Star Wars franchise. It was all about being in the right place at the right time back in '77.

My original comment I 100% stand behind. If you came out of this movie pissed as hell, you need to lighten up a bit. Discuss and dissect, take issue with things all you want, but being irate about a movie not living up to the hype that YOU put on it is just a tad childish IMO.

Get over yourself, just let them be mad in this thread. That what it was made for.
