If you came out of this movie pissed as hell, you need to lighten up a bit. Discuss and dissect, take issue with things all you want, but being irate about a movie not living up to the hype that YOU put on it is just a tad childish IMO.

The OP knew this and he explained that as his reason to create a separate thread, so he didn't have to unleash his irate over the top anger on your thread. I respect him for that.
And that was his choice and he now has a thread to share opinions with others who might feel the same way. Seriously... You coming back in the thread is ON YOU. :lol
You know what is being said in here and yet you still come back to read and post. If you see the thread and the OP's anger as "childish" and don't want to see it... Then do not open the thread and just ignore it. It is simple. Nobody is forcing you to read it or forcing you to reply.

Ultimately, the heart wants what it wants and emotional reactions are something we cannot control to film
You either are feeling it or you don't. Humans generally respond to a lot of things the same, but not always.
I can sit there and bond with a film and it's magic, another person in the same theater will think it's lame, or yes
angry especially with things we love we think/feel are being mishandled.
And that means it can be taken a bit personally when our feeling are involved.
"It's just a movie" is often said. Well.... mostly. LOL

I hate Ewoks, the non-existent crew of troops on Endor that magically disappeared and did nothing when the battle happened; I hate Mon Mothma, Nien Numb, and all the useless characters.....I hate Fett's cheesy death and Leia downgraded to a grunt basically; I hate the sabre duel at the end because it barely was one....I hate a lot of things about "Return of the Jedi" actually....

Really, Ewoks ready to roast people with clothes (or hair) still on? No gutting and skinning???

"An entire legion of my best troops" says Palpatine....hahaha ok. I wonder what the entry level troops could do then.




So for all who nitpick TFA, continuously bash prequels, and worship the OT, don't forget how dumb ROTJ was first.

And I suspect that is exactly what happened to the OP. He is such a HUGE fan and built this up in his mind and his emotions are hurt from the result. While some don't see how he can be so mad, we are not him and don't know exactly how he is feeling. This emotional feeling is probably justified for him, and while some might not understand that, there is nothing wrong with getting it out. Better to get it off you chest in a forum than to explode and be violent :lol.

I did not forget ROTJ shortcomings, in fact we still wonder WTF were they doing making another death star? LOL
In 83 I had given up on ROTJ about halfway through, though plenty of cheering fans in the theater.
Third act despite salted with Ewok dragged the OT across the finish line satisfactorily enough.
And we still loved our main characters.

Easter eggs:
* Chewie yells at a droid. (BB-8, not mouse droid)
* Rey sneaks behind a couple of Stormtroopers on the "Death Star", the Stormtroopers are chatting: "Did you see the new ? ..." just like when Obi-Wan was sneaking around on the first Death Star.
* Han asks if there is a Trash Compactor that they could dispose of Captain Phasma into.
* The remnants of the battle of Jakku spread out: Rey scavenges in a Star Destroyer, lives in an AT-AT, wears an X-wing fighter helmet. We also see a crashed X-wing ...
* Parts of Rey's staff look like parts of Darth Maul's lightsaber (and other lightsabers in the prequels...)

The mirroring has already been discussed to death ...

Even though I disagree with the OP I respect his right to have his opinion and I appreciate that he made a separate thread so as not to disrupt the other thread.

I love TFA but have a violent repulsion to ROTJ so I actually feel I know his position.

Okay I have to ask, why all the hate for ROTJ?

Don't get me wrong. Totally cool that you don't like it but other than the Ewoks, which I think were fun and I don't remember poeople hating at the time, but looking back they could have been done better what's to hate???

Couple the OT experience with ones childhood it's literally part of your life experience. So for thirty years I have wondered about my heroes and their lives after ROTJ. Imagining a happy long marriage with kids, new good guys., Luke "passing on what he has learned." The restored Republic for another long reign before something started rotting inside again. OR maybe some extenal threat, another galaxys evil invading or something.That was why I thought Lucas reallly had no where to go after ROTJ. Empire was gone. I suppose you could have new Jedi tracking down troublemakers but that's not war material.
So kind of a lot to accept that all of them got really bad fates.

I wish we could have just one thread with reactions, this whole thread feels redundant.

Bryan when I went through the other threads most everyone seemed to love it. Look at some of the comments here when I clearly stated this thread was gonna be a "I did not like it" thread. A few people still came in with obnoxious comments. Could you imagine if I plopped my first post in the middle of the love fest. I would be getting all kinds of mean posts and obnoxious comments. I rarely engage in keyboard arguments because that is not why I come here. I just wanted to talk with others who did not like it.

Well we DO like it but nothing like the others, too many muppets is the short answer. LOL
The palace had a lot of silly stuff, really torture a droids feet by burning them? WTF?
Singing and dance number? I get he was trying to one up the Cantina scene I guess but it was horrid.
Scout biker chase was ok I guess but CHiPs was popular so maybe that's why bikes were in it.
All the Yoda/Dagobah stuff felt rushed and bad writing to solve loose ends. "Certain point of view". Ugh.
Han seemed actually less intelligent in this one for some reason.
And yeah, really another death star? I mean I knew that going in but it still doesn't make sense to me.
Well other than a bytchin internal run into a death star and amazing reactor blow up escape.

Stupid title too. I was waiting for the part where it made since.

The force is an energy field created by all living things that surrounds us and penetrates us and binds the Galaxy together.

So if Kylo kills all the other Jedi, how that was done is a mystery and B.S. regardless. Luke runs off and Kylo continues to use the darkside. This causes,..what the force to go to sleep.


It's kind of like X Men Days of Future Past. It makes no sense. It does not actually explain anything and yet changes the entire original story but in actuality makes no sense and would not have changed the story. Oh you did not like that,...abracadabra it's gone. Don't ask why,..just eat your popcorn. And now Singer, who's first two X men were okay but weak, his Superman sucked, now is treated like a God for making a movie that actually makes no sense whatever.

Same here. TFA really makes no sense.

Where and who are the Republic??

Someone brought up a good point. I do not like name calling and should not have called this director names. I seriously don't like name calling and am always mad at myself when I resort to it. It's a lazy tool of a weak mind.(Name that movie quote)

It is hard to insult someone's complete lack of talent without name calling.

I will try harder to find a way (okay that was sarcastic but the part about being sorry for name calling was sincere)

Something else that's been bugging me since seeing the movie:

With R2 powered down, under the tarp for 95% of the movie, the whole idea of R2 being the witness to the whole saga is out the window now. Bummer. I always liked that idea a lot, that R2 is the survivor and witness to it all, passing on the story from a long time ago, in a galaxy far away.

I never said the movie was perfect. I never said it was without issue. The reason: because it's not a perfect movie and it does have issues. But so did the OT. Seriously, were people expecting a perfect movie? I can understand people dissecting the movie and discussing their issues with it, but that is not what this thread is about. This thread is about people that are livid pissed that the movie wasn't what they wanted. To me, that is stupid, childish, and misplaced.

The OT will never be matched again in terms of movie magic. It came out WAY ahead of it's time and revolutionized cinema and marketing. They will NEVER be able to capture that magic again in the Star Wars franchise. It was all about being in the right place at the right time back in '77.

New Sequel fears:
Kylo Ren will be Darth Vader suit and all, but different
Rey will be the solo twin sister separated at birth (sound familiar?)

Now that new Star Wars is here my hope is the next installment will diverge into some new territory.

I'm concerned about this too;

Old Luke trains Rey and becomes a Ben Kenobi-like character
Rey is trained and becomes a young luke-like character
It's revealed Kylo was originally trained by a post ROTJ luke (like Ben did with vader)
Kylo is wounded heavily in ep7 and becomes a darth vader like character

in Ep8 Old luke (Ben) confronts Kylo (Vader) on....I dunno a space station or something.
Kylo (Vader) kills old luke (ben) saying something about being the apprentice and now the master or something
It's now up to Rey (young luke) to confront Kylo (Vader) and complete her training and bring balance to the force

If that's the rough direction I mean haven't we seen that in the OT? Please please someone reassure me this wont be the direction I want to see the new not a rehash of the old. I don't mind that this film heavily references ANH to set up the films but I hope the referencing back stops there

I loved it.

Perhaps those of you who hate it wanted more of technology history factual film. This is more what I think Lucas was trying to do with the prequels...a history and all the pieces needed to fit.

For me Star Wars is just a good time with cool stuff. I got that.

If you want science and history where everything falls more In place you got Star Trek.

A long time ago a critic noted there is no noise in space so why do the ships and lasers make the noises. There you go. This is just meant to be fun and who cares.

Go watch 2001 if you want more realism.

ANH is just as goofy, but you saw it when you were younger and were able to enjoy it. You're getting old dude. Haha
