Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

My biggest problems with the speeder bike chase are:

1 Trees and shrubs look too big when they are on the bikes compared to when the actors are walking near them.
2 Very little attempt to match up the light and shadows as they are flying through the trees, Luke and Liea evenly lit throughout.
3 Luke and Liea both jump off their bikes and land in bushes as if they had stepped off the back of a slow moving tortoise, the stormtroopers that come off slam into trees and explode.

Overall once the bikes start moving you never feel that they are really on them.

By comparison the scout walkers are beautifully integrated into the backgrounds.

I think the sequence would have benefited greatly from having a score, there wasn't any music
and it suffered dramatically for it.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

As to the map, all i can guess is that SOMEONE found him in the past and the map is a log of his journey to get there. Therefore, there's a path...

As for the missing bit....think of our galaxy...there are billions of planets and millions if not billions of solar systems in it. Even in SW, you think every inch of the whole thing is mapped? It's entirely possible it's not.

That's actually what I thought at first and it made perfect sense...until they showed the whole map assembled and it was the galaxy with the missing piece being a huge chunk of it.

With what they showed, you really did ONLY need that one piece.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I loved Jedi (not the SE version), loved the ewoks, and LOVED the speeder bikes. Fett dying like that truly did suck, but I have no other gripes about it.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I loved it.

Perhaps those of you who hate it wanted more of technology history factual film. This is more what I think Lucas was trying to do with the prequels...a history and all the pieces needed to fit.

For me Star Wars is just a good time with cool stuff. I got that.

If you want science and history where everything falls more In place you got Star Trek.

A long time ago a critic noted there is no noise in space so why do the ships and lasers make the noises. There you go. This is just meant to be fun and who cares.

Go watch 2001 if you want more realism.

ANH is just as goofy, but you saw it when you were younger and were able to enjoy it. You're getting old dude. Haha

Maybe there should be a sticky about this so we don't have to go through it every single time a fantasy movie makes internal mistakes.

but...realism is not the same thing as obeying the internal laws of the universe you created. Fantasy need not conform to reality, but it does have to conform to its OWN internal universe.

By the way, we HAVE also picked apart ANH. Entire movies and websites have been devoted to picking it apart. There are entire cultural themes about the inconsistencies of the old series.

So maybe you should ask yourself, why does it bother you so much that people dare to look into the details of JJ's untouchable opus? Why should this be sacrosanct when even the original gets torn apart for Storm troopers of varied height, head bumping, unable to hit things, no one bothered to plug the hole?

Why should this one be immune? When entire sites (INCLUDING THIS ONE) have spent years examining the minutiae of it's predecessors?

I'm sorry if this is coming off as defensive, but I really am baffled when people actually seem to get bothered by the fact that we're picking apart a Star Wars movie. THATS WHAT WE DO is pick apart Star Wars movies. Star Wars was where we first learned movie picking apart. Now we have a forum where we come specifically to pick apart movies and a Star Wars one just came out...and we're shocked...SHOCKED to find people picking it apart?

Stop being silly, 4 friends just came over after just viewing it, and wanted to check in with me and also look at my Trooper Bucket and sabers, and ALL die-hard fans.

3 were indifferent and disapointed and one liked it

And every single person with a negative review is here on RPF!

Re: Easter Eggs, Mirroring of the OT in The Force Awakens (SPOILERS INSIDE)

When Rey climbs down the hangar / chasm and it was reminiscent of OB1 going out onto the gang-plank to disable the tractor beam.

Luke will probably be pissed at Kylo after hearing he killed his best friend. I expect a bloody battle, but that won't happen. He'll be all light side and train Rey and she'll save the mass murdering cousin..

I'm thinking not. Regardless of what he did - he's still Luke's nephew and Leia's daughter. He didn't kill his father - which he have every right and reason to do so. No way he comes close to killing his nephew who he watched grow up for 20ish years before his fall.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

There are some people here that really need to lighten up.

I hope you guys can find happiness?

Do you go into the fanboy circlejerk threads and tell all the people who are gushing about it that they need to calm down? Or that just reserved for people who want to voice their opinion about how unhappy they are with it. People are allowed to hate and vent about this movie as much as the people who are gushing about it and acting like it's the greatest piece of cinema every to be put to film.

I've just come back from seeing this...... I have to chew it over for a bit, maybe see it again before it properly sinks in?
Is it just me??

Re: Easter Eggs, Mirroring of the OT in The Force Awakens (SPOILERS INSIDE)

Finn's number is FN-2187

ANH, princess Leia was held captive in Detention bock 1138, cell 2187

The salvage she pulls from the SD in the beginning also looks like the maul emitter.

Oh, and the Maz's place = cantina

Just back from my second viewing. A lot of stuff that I didn't get or like made sense and worked this time around, having had time to digest it all and go into it with a little knowledge under my belt. The ONLY thing I still can't figure is why R2 powered up when he did.

Jedi was the first SW movie I recall seeing in the theater, i was too young to remember ANH or ESB. I don't think i really had an opinion on the ewoks, but my god the speeder bikes. I grew up in a family that rode motorcycles but those scenes cemented my love of bikes and going fast even more.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I'm stupid and childish.

Thanks for dropping by.

Tom

No, no, I'm not saying you are stupid or childish. I'm saying certain actions appear childish and stupid, but that doesn't make a person the sum of a single act.

And it doesn't matter anyhow, because you have a hot wife.

Well if Kylo was my nephew and he killed MY best friend I'd be reaching very hard for my lightsaber....and riding the fence tipping the Dark side.

Not just you. We're all digesting. Some have heartburn, some are fat and happy. ;)

Chewie on it.

I just got back. Saw it in 2D.

Can't wait to see it in 3d.

Anyway, I loved the character and dialogue. I wanted to cry every time Leia was on screen. And Rey was perfect. Absolutely perfect.

Other than following the same beats as ANH, my absolute biggest beef was with the score. Where was the space opera?

The score used in the trailers were WAY better.

The other issues I had were with the Falcon. It was pure fan boy falcon porn. It didn't move remotely like it always had. And the who thing where it's crashing all the time. Can we please have a space battle?

And Han picking them up as they left jakku was up there with kirk finding old spock on hoth in star trek. Space is big. Stop making it small.

And the final gripe was with artoo coming alive at the end to complete the star map. That was wank.

But on the whole, I'm proud of JJ. I hate his star treks. Loathe them. But he was pretty darn restrained here. He avoided a lot of the same action movie tropes of recent years that I hate so much. (By inserting star wars tropes )

Jedi... terrible film and I felt that at 12. The space battle is good and the shuttle tyderium is awesome.

Jabbas palace: Full of muppets, aweful dance number.
Boba dies like a bitch.
Kenobi is a liar.
EWOKS = Jar Jar of 1983

Unfortunately, I agree with you on all of this except terrible film. Definitely should have been better, but not terrible. Just like the prequels, Lucas went too far.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I never thought a resurgent Empire was a good idea at all.
They were done. Defeated. Over. I mean over like the Nazis or Japanese Empire
after WWII. Ain't comin' back. And the OT Characters had been tortured by war enough.
What was the point of the OT at all then? Just keep blowing up gabillion credit death stars I guess
with a few common fighters. The construction unions are SOOOO cleaning up on this right?
Didn't they tell Jr that Granpa was a force angel and good now?
What darkness would that kid have EVER been influenced by? It makes no sense. Should
have been the most loved child in the galaxy nurtured by goodness.
Why would Luke leave his father's remains uncremated?
Sort of the whole point of burning a body. Or did an Ewok run off with it
before it was fully burned, Luke chased him a while but gave up
and the Ewok used it for a drum a few years? LOL

Anyways, Rogue One will probably satisfy me.

As for more episodes, I think I'm going to have to wait for Episode 10 The Fresh Start.
So the faster these come out the better.

The flaw in that logic is you could also easily call the OT WWI as well. It was supposedly the war to end all wars. Everyone was done with it. Yet, the reality of the situation is one ****** (more or less) with an agenda and pyschotic issues came to lead the villain country of WWI and inflame the populous into doing the whole damned thing over again - all of - 20-25 years later - this time with substantially worse consequences.

We don't know the metal/material the suit was made of. The human bits of vader/anakin were turned to ash. He did burn him after all. Just not all the mechanical/arm pieces. Take a medieval knight and toss him in a cremation over. The flesh will become ash, not the armor.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Short and to the point AGAIN:

"An entire LEGION OF MY BEST TROOPS...."

And the ANSWER to that threat???

Hell, you don't even need a blaster. Just get your bow and arrows out and kill the white armoured demons!!!

And.....where the flip were the Rebels in camo?
