Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

I'm more familiar with Eno. Who is this 'Shakespeare' you keep talking about? I read the Star Wars trilogy written in the style of old Bill. Is that the same guy?

And regarding something truly "New".... Just how many climatic weather conditions and vegetation can you create out there? I suppose people are expecting a planet that will go through extreme cold, rain, drought, and swamp at the same time?

Surely Tatooine isn't the only desert planet in the galaxy. You're going to have variances of structures and life that is different from one place to another, but you can't expect every planet is going to have wildly different appearances every single time.
I agree. Not every planet has to be a completely new look. That kind of thinking is what gave rise to the look of the prequels where each planet was a completely new exercise in design. While I appreciate the amount of creative energy and labor that went into each planet (underwater city, Coruscant, Naboo etc ..) it seemed actually excessive and over-designed. Jakku being somewhat like Tatooine was actually refreshing. It stands to reason that a lot of habitable worlds would have common landscapes... just as the desert of Tunisia can look a lot like the desert in Abu Dabi.

I noticed on my second viewing that young Rey was being held by the arm by Unkar Plutt and you hear his voice. Also after they escape the TIE's Finn compliments Rey on her flying and she said she had no idea how she did it. That really helped and informed her growing strength and understanding of how to access the Force through the rest of the film.

And when I left the 9:10am matinee there was a line to get into the next show.

My new favorite laugh out loud line was Finn after escaping the Rathtar says to Rey that the door closed and saved him and she quips "That was lucky" when she was the one who did it. :)

And I believe he also calls her Daisy there.

I concur, Bryan. That was the best, most organic, laugh line in the movie. Daisy Ridley is a brilliant actress, and I felt myself fall in love with her/Rey in precisely that moment.

The problem wit
h this theory is that the dark side is like heroin. You can't be a casual user.

It changes you. It's more seductive.

Than how does Luke constantly use the dark side . he used his fear and anger to defeat Vader! Yoda even told him only a fully trained Jedi knight could defeat Vader without becoming an agent of evil
(I guess he still could be and maybe that is why he is hiding out) but according to everyone here he just decided not to like he is immune to the dark . I am hoping he does become a grey Jedi which balances the force for good . it is not cannon any more but before the Jedi and what became the lords of the sith broke up they used to practice both light and dark together

Being tempted by the dark side is a far cry different than going deep cover

Considering how great and well served Chewie is in the film, I'm surprised you didn't like it more.

Here's what I posted:

Here's the global box office of TFA as of two days ago: $1,161,085,429
Here's the global box office of "The Phantom Menace": $1,027,044,677
"The Phantom Menace" box office adjusted for inflation: $1,463,113,298

TFA actually isn't quite there yet (adjusted for inflation), but it will clearly surpass "The Phantom Menace" by the third weekend.

I have no idea where you're getting third week numbers, since TFA has only been in release thirteen days, and TFA has no release competition beyond, "The Hateful Eight". "The Phantom Menace" was in release for a total of thirty-seven weeks, proving, "clear longevity in theaters." Nothing I posted was "categorically incorrect."

Here's the core issue: I was mistaken posting anything to this thread. I should have read a few pages before joining in, because this is clearly fanboy/fangirl central. Which is fine, do your thing, but it's not a discussion area I'm going to have any interest in. <OUT>

NOOOO. don't leave from fear of others judgement fear leads to hate and the dark side . I disagree with you on allot of points and understand being flamed for MY unpopular opinions but if everyone who disagreed refused to talk we become like congress and achieve nothing. I am envoking the jar jar and move we give modelguts emergency powers . lol no really while I personally liked this movie and put it as my 3 of 7 overall I whole heartly agree with you basic statement of making money does not make the movie good Avatar is still king of the hill in money making ( I think they used mind control because I know a guy who has only been to the theatre once in 15 years and it was to see avatar and he can't explain why he went when he waited for DVDs of movies he really wanted to see) only half joking. anyway avatar it is not on my top hundred movies list . and not on many
"official " top hundred of all time but according to the numbers it is the best ever. Do I see your point ? whole heartadly !

True but he was not just tempted he used it to win that is like using steroids to win the Olympic games then denouncing them so you can accept your medal ( and ignore chewies medal )

I agree
He seemed as close to the same wookie as they could get with a different actor portraying him . as for his look at rey at the end he is a horn dog always has been . when Leia pushes him and gives her walking carpet quip he let's her go by no problem cuz she was a cute girl . just like Finn gets strangled for helping him in the falcon and the nurse is unacosted at the base he seemed well written and portrayed he called han on his bs . he acted tough for men and was cool for the women . and threw down some serious bowcaster blaster fire when needed .
As for head movements he is old his neck hurts lol.

4hours till h8ful ( if they can put fanti4stick) I can put h8ful )lol anyway even though I lika the war in the stars glad there is something else to go see today can't wait to see how the war in the bar stands up !

He didn't go down the dark path, he stopped at the crossroads. That's the whole "regarding his mechanical hand" moment before he threw down his saber. Had he continued and killed Vader, THAT would imo indicate his giving in to the dark side, much like Anakin when he beheaded Dooku.

With regards to the "dark path" choice in those instances, I'm hoping the new films will explore the reasoning and intentionality behind those decisions, which I think is far more important than a simple, binary "Did you kill/spare him?"

Anakin could have killed Dooku regretfully, on the theory that, even (literally) disarmed, Dooku was too dangerous to allow to survive. But instead, he killed him because his blood was up and he was angry. Luke might have killed Vader on the same theory, but in that moment, he was fighting out of pure rage rather than conscious choice. Ultimately, I think it's giving into the uncontrolled rage, hatred, etc. that is the true dark path, rather than simply "Oh, you killed a guy when he was beaten." The question is "Was he really beaten? Or might he have come back later? Could you safely imprison him?"

Mercy is great and all, but in some cases, showing mercy might be the more damaging choice on the larger scale.

I kind of agree .
That is why I hope the theroy someone earlier on came up with about he becomes a grey Jedi that would be cool .
but it is funny how GL mimicked the way Palatine begged for anakins help the same way Luke begged for Vader's . n why is Luke not all mush faced from the force lightning? It messed up Palatine .oh no a problem with the OT that's it I'm burning all my copies lol
another reason i think snoke ends up being plaguies is his melted looking face and gash in his head it looks like someone force lightninged him up at some point. And the whole studying to defeat death being his whole schtick as well as the music cues .
Sorry got off point a bit.
but i was answering the stastment made that the dark side is like heroin a little taste and you are hooked if that is the case Luke is dark ,mace was dark ,qui gon jin was dark it just dont seem to be the case.

My opinion is the Jedi were teaching half truthes to further there view point I always thought GL was poking at religious believes a bit . just like Vader redeemed on his death bed of all his sins . the first trilogy was his view on relegion, and the prequels his views on politics in my opinion with a lesser degree of each in both to help balance the force .
Like I stated before the dark and light used to be taught together before the schism .

And on the point I hear about TFA mimicking to closely ANH well in real life history repeasts itself the empire and first order have been compared to the Nazi's they have obvious similarities but I took the new order more like Constantinople were Rome was over took in Italy so it was abandoned for the safety of turkey to become the new Roman empire.

I always thought Palpatine had looked like that for years, and was just creating an illusion of a normal face, one that he dropped in order to gain Anakins trust at what the "bad" jedi were doing to him.

Clearly! :) I just thought Chewie has never been better and given so many great moments, he was a real stand out for me watching it.

Chewie was definitely given several moments. Unfortunately for me, and many others I know, he was out of character in those moments. And he didn't look right. And he didn't stand right. And he didn't move right. But more than his appearance and locomotion being significantly off, he acted out of character in all of his big moments--the light moments and the heavy moments.
