Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I agree with every one of those things.

But a lot of those issues are typical Abrams fair. It's the same stuff he pulled in star trek.

I would add one more:

In addition to new locations, we need to see evidence of the past. A return to cloud city or coruscant. Some clone armor. A reprogrammed battle Droid. Death watch. A bounty hunter who uses OT stormtrooper armor. And of course, lots of the species that make up the galaxy we know and love.

Dude, you know I'm a reasonable guy who tests relatively well. That said, I get it just fine; I just don't love it. In fact, I don't have anyone in my immediate center of influence (outside of this forum) who has rated this movie any higher than a 6 on the 10 scale. That's saying quite a bit considering some of the enthusiasts with whom I work/ associate.

I don't think there's anything wrong for some to desire a little more after a 30+ year wait. Sure, a few could articulate themselves better; agreed, this isn't a childhood wrecker, but I swear I saw the same film almost 40 years ago, when it was called Star Wars.

There really is no getting past the fact it's a reboot disguised as a sequel. As I've said. Well done them, but I'd hoped for better. It requires zero effort for me to yield to those who love it. I mean, what's it really matter? Curious how the same courtesy isn't afforded to those who are less enthused.

Love ya just the same. ;)

There was no reason to reboot this franchise. In fact, I find it insulting.

But the thing is, all they had to do was get rid of the "Starkiller base" and no one would be bothered. Sure, the other ANH beats would be there, but the acting and dialogue is so damn good that no one would notice.

They did, to regain credibility because of the Prequels

The soft reboot worked,....JJ & crew did it,....now lets hope we can move forward onto the next episodes & not have to keep putting too many little nods or elements from previous films,....it worked for this one, to ensure everyone that we were back on the right track again and that the franchise is in safe hands

I'm looking forward to the REAL Prequel film next year, things have never been better for Star Wars fans,.....and the general movie fans

Heres guys (who strike fear into the shrinking Prequel community) who know what they are talking about:

Re: Star Wars TFA. My Review. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!!!!!!.

To be fair with that, they showcased the abilities of Chewie's bowcaster with Han "ooing and awwing" over it and then Chewie hits him in the left lower torso/hip with it. I'd like to think Kylo was pretty injured from it and he was definitely pushing himself(and on himself to cause more pain) and draw more on the Dark Side. If the bowcaster did a quarter of the damage to Kylo that it was doing elsewhere, he was probably using a lot of the Force just to hold himself up and together, let alone fight....just my two credits...

Not entirely dissimilar to Maximus and his final fight (from some other movie)...?

Perhaps Number Two will be better. I mean, Number Eight - whatever...

I can't begin to accept that Abrams and Kasden are not completely aware of the "retread aspect" (of which I fully agree, and I know you're not suggesting the film makers are clueless). I sort of see it as a necessary step in the building of a new epic, and I'm betting you do too! JJ and Larry were - I believe - almost compelled to give us what we got (dare I say "dispense with"?) before moving into new territory.

This film is exactly what you have described. It is a love letter to us old farts (I loved the chess board in the Falcon, but come on - was seeing the chess board light up really necessary to the plot, or just a tidbit to give us old guys a bit of wood?). So, templated off the OT; yes... Reboot; yes... But at the same time this movie does kick off the new breed in fairly effective fashion.

Not defending the "retread aspect", and pretty much totally agreeing with all you! :cool

But also saying that what we got all makes perfect sense, and that I'm hopeful that Numbers Eight and Nine take us farther.

I don't know if this has been mentioned as I did not read through all 27 pages of posts....BUT

When R2D2 comes back to life so to speak and starts talking to C3PO, 3PO turns back and says
" Find master Luke Hamill ??????"

Anyone notice...

He actually says "Found master Luke how?"

Re: Star Wars TFA - How much they got paid **SPOILERS**

Then you're the exception to the rule.
Imagine if the news says that Harrison Ford WON'T be in the upcoming The Force Awakens.
It would be so contrived if we never get closure on such an important character from the OT, regardless of how you feel he was in TFA.
It's as if Robert Downey Jr. decided he wouldn't be in the Avengers.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

That's a problem with a "Reboot" i.e. "between a rock and a hard place", or as they say in French: "between the hammer and the anvil"). The transition is always from the old to the new and they succeed at that. Sure, from us "old farts" you ain't getting any love (just likes) and from the new, well...they'll have to go thru the whole Saga to get it.
Fine, let's the sales of toys ramp up:rolleyes Let's wait for #8 to really see the new!

Woops, my bad, cheers, I was thinking how could they possibly let that in.

A bit like in ANH when Luke blows up the death star and when he returns to the base
Leia calls out "Luke" and he replies "Carrie"

Re: Star Wars TFA - How much they got paid **SPOILERS**

Actually they could have just as easily had Han die off screen, Kylo could have killed him years ago which would have sent him down the path of the Darkside. Easy enough to do without having Han in it. Liked having Han in the movie but he was not necessary. My only complaint is we will never see Luke, Han and Leia together on the big screen again, wish that could have been done if even for a few minutes only.

Bring on ESB 2

I just read an article suggesting they might have made a subtle dig at the Prequels. What was the first line of dialog in the film?

"This will begin to make things right."

:lol

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Lol! So according to some, the PT wasn't enough like the OT films and according to others the ST (or TFA) is too much like the OT films. Can't please everyone but maybe Ep. 8 will be juuuust right.

I do agree TFA was a little heavy handed in its similarities to ANH but as far as I'm concerned, they could've done much worse things. It was quite a bit better than the PT and, while not flawless, was a fun ride all around for me. I think it was a palate cleanser of sorts and sets the stage nicely for the things to come.

Are we trying to actually hurt George Lucas' feelings at this point?

It's starting to get petty.

I loved the film too, but I actually think it would have been a better film if George was still involved.

Re: "I loved or mostly loved TFA" - people only thread

When did they mention their ages?

They both looked to be in their 20s

Starkiller base was a bit contrived, but isn't super weapons kinda the empires thing? And isn't this kinda the throwback empire? If it took thirty years to make a Death Star and what? Five to make the second one? Thirty years is plenty of time to produce another mega weapon, especially if your best option to enhanced technology is from using previously tried technology.

That said it wasn't necessary. It could have culminated in the first order finding the Jedi temple and the resistance following, leading to an all-out battle that Luke could have single-handedly stopped with the force.

You know what I want?

I want George Lucas to give a review of this movie. A real review.

At this point, he's being raked across the coals by everyone and every right to give an honest review of this movie
