Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

Good lord this thing filled up fast. It took me all day reading to catch up. Now that I have, I've got a few responses to posts I felt needed commenting on.

1.

Not really...my first impression was that it was number 6 in my ranking. But I liked the prequels, so that's not a knock on the movie at all. It may go higher with repeated viewings, but that's where it is with me right now.

2.

That particular piece was created specifically for the trailer using a synthesizer, not a live orchestra.

3.

You don't think Obi-Wan sprang fully formed from the ground, do you?

4.

Actually, Poe was already 5 by the battle of Endor. We learn this in the Shattered Empire comic. #2, I believe.

No Poe was conceived of Yavin after the events of Shattered Empire and Endor.

No, I'm 100% sure he was already born in shattered empire. Shara mentioned they hadn't seen their son in such and such a time. I don't know specifics, obviously, but I remember it very clearly.

EDIT: Just looked it up. It's in issue 2, she's talking to L'ulo and she says "I just talked to my father and Poe last week". Which means that unless she named 2 of her children Poe, he's already born and talking.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Whereas I didn't hate the film, I support most all of the gripes presented in this thread.

The one that just kills me the most is not that Han was killed (though that sucked), was that when Chewie saw his life mate murdered, he shoulda just lost his *****! I mean shoot every living thing in sight, rip Stormtroopers arms out of their sockets, etc. We should have seen the raw and powerful Wookie rage that we know is there.

And then to make it worse....

They spent a third of a second on his grief. Really??? That scene needed to breathe and they stepped on it. He should have been almost inconsolable, and no one even tried to comfort him. I suspect they didn't want to slow the film down or bring the mood down, but dammit, Chewie and Han deserved better.

Oh yeah, did anyone else notice that C-3PO looked like crap? What was up with his costume? Also, he did not look like dirtied up gold chrome, he looked like gold rattle can spray paint.

I'm sure I will have more later.

I forgot about that because I was distracted by C3P0's ridiculous dialogue but you are right. He looked painted gold.

R2 reduced to a cameo along with Luke,

"Oh I can take a total evil bad guy using the Force I never heard of until today with a weapon I have never touched."

AAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RAGE RETURNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never flown this ship. I can take it through a crashed Superstar Destroyer and out run numerous Tie Fighters

Destroy an evil wannabe Sith in a lightsaber battle.

Do a mind control on a Stormy second try with no training.

Are you FRIGGING kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Going Dark. Gonna go play with the kids.

Luke was using her as a conduit for the force and was influencing her actions and giving her power.

Honestly no matter who writes or directs, there will be threads like this forever more. You think they can actually make a movie where no one will make threads such as this? Please. There will always people that hate any given movie for whatever reasons.

- - - Updated - - -

And some people like to go against the grain just to be a Hipster type and say they are smarter than everyone else cause they "went against the grain."

- - - Updated - - -

Too many threads on TFA anyway. Where the hell are the moderators here? This board is a mess.

So you just posted in a thread to complain there are too many threads.

Interesting.

I can assure no one would ever mistake me for a hipster. LOL
Sometimes I even go with the grain.

Abrams does need to admit it and give credit where due..

This, I thought, was a complete letdown. In Empire Chewie can barely contain himself when Han is being frozen in carbonite, but here Han is murdered and he howls angrily, fires off a few shots, and that's it??? At the very least they should have included a brief scene in which Leia and Chewie console each other and share their grief over the loss of someone they both loved.

...Oh yeah, did anyone else notice that C-3PO looked like crap? What was up with his costume? Also, he did not look like dirtied up gold chrome, he looked like gold rattle can spray paint...
In a couple of the photos I've seen, it looks like they were trying to give the impression that 3PO's gold/brass plating was wearing thin and allowing the "metal" beneath it to show through. Unfortunately, it didn't quite come across that way in the movie.

Yeah, the mods are letting this one guy post the same complaint in all the TFA threads.

Asleep at the wheel!

I got to watch it Saturday and I loved pretty much every moment of it. Naturally there were some moments that I didn't like but overall I liked the movie, a lot.

One minor nitpick, but wasn't the walker that Rey was using for her house a touch on the small side? To me, it looked like the walker would have been about 10' standing up, a lot shorter than they were in Empire unless this was some sort of midget version of a walker.

Something else I didn't like was knowing all that I did going in, I think that when Episode VIII is well under way in production and the pre-release threads are started I'm definitely staying away from the spoiler thread and maybe even the non-spoiler thread too. I find knowing what to expect going in kind of ruins some of the fun for me and some of the surprise too. But that was all my fault, nobody made me read those two threads, but it's definitely lesson learned.

I've been saying that about the walker from the beginning. I'm also bugged that the whole movie felt incomplete, design wise.

Remember the amazing concept art of her walker home? It looked amazing.

But what we got was much simpler and kinda boring.

EDIT: My apologies, Bryancd already linked to this article back a couple pages.

I didn't see this posted in this thread. I apologize if it has been.

JJ talks about the familiar voices in Rey's vision sequence:
http://www.ew.com/article/2015/12/20/jj-abrams-reveals-obi-wan-and-yoda-are-star-wars-force-awakens

“You do hear a little bit of Yoda. You hear Luke yelling out, ‘Nooo!’ from that moment in Empire. And you hear Obi-Wan at the end say, ‘Rey … these are your first steps,’” Abrams says. “Here’s the cool part. We asked Ewan McGregor to come in and do the line. And he was awesome and we were very grateful. He was incredibly sweet and handsome, and all that stuff. Then he rode off on his motorcycle. Literally the coolest voice over actor ever.”
As they worked on editing the dream sequence, Bryan Burk, a longtime Bad Robot collaborator and one of the producers of the film, surprised Abrams one day with the gift of a single word: Obi-Wan Kenobi’s voice saying the name “Rey …”
“I said, ‘That’s cool, is that the thing from Ewan McGregor?’” Abrams recalled. “He said ‘No, we took a line from Alec Guinness saying ‘Afraid.’”

Maybe Liea blames Chewie for Han leaving, they were best friends, so when Han decided to leave naturally Chewie would go with him, but on the other hand if Chewie had told Han to stay, he might have listened.

Essentially Han left her to be with him, so no hugs is not entirely hard to rationalise.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I mentioned it in the other thread, but since were talking about it here:

yes it's really weird that she just ignores Chewie to hug Rey..

but even weirder when you realize that this is actually the first time Leia and Rey even meet. Rey was already captured when Leia first appears. As far as Leia knows Rey is just the friend Finn mentioned wanting to rescue.

Star Wars TFA - How much they got paid **SPOILERS**

Don't know if it's accurate but it was on the internet so it must be true....;)

Harrison Ford $34M + .05 of the gross.....probably very high because they kill him off
Carrie Fisher $2M
Fin and Rey (don't know their names) $680k each
JJ $9M

Doesn't say how much Mark got...probably less than HF+ % of gross, because he gets to come back next time....

Holy crap that did not even register. WTH!!!!!!!! She ignores Chewy and hugs a stranger. Even if she knew Rey as a child Rey does not know her.

My dog could make a better Star Wars movie whilst licking her butt.

Some thoughts in the film.

Who is Rey?
I noticed some clues in the film and thought id share.

-beginning of the film we see Max Von Sydow as the one person with the information to Lukes location.

- during Reys foashback we see her as a little girl watching the ship leave her on Jakku and it seems Sydow is the one taking care of her...so, sydow is left in charge of her and he knows lukes location?

- when Rey is eating in her ATAT we see a childs stuffed toy of an XWing pilot.
Luke was an XWing pilot.

-we also see her put on an Xwing pilot helmet.

- Lukes saber calls out to her.

- she sees a flashback of Luke touching R2.
Seems she might be Lukes daughter, taken to Jakku to protect her from Ren.

As for thr first Order, snoke doesnt seem like a Sith.
Just an opportunist who likes the idea of having a Sith (ren) on his side.
Ren to s clearly not a Sith lord just a wanna be who idolizes Vader and has no training or discipline.
As a matter of fact i think the whole New Order seems to be made up of you imoressionable recruits. Did anyone notice how young the officers were?
