Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

A couple things:

Perhaps rey HAS Been trained as a child, but has undergone a memory wipe to protect her. That's why the skills come back so well.

I just realized that the map was not a map to luke, but a map to the first jedi temple where he went.

Didn't they mention that is where he went?

Yep, apparently the Empire made that map for the Purge of the Jedi

Re: Easter Eggs, Mirroring of the OT in The Force Awakens (SPOILERS INSIDE)

The 501'st legion patch is on one of the banners at Maz's castle. Also Daniel Craig and Simon Pegg in the movie.

I see the Kylo and Han bit more as Kylo wanting Han to help him finish his turn to the darkside. We're led to believe it's him asking for Han to help him back to the light and it's even indicated by Kylo handing over his lightsaber - but, he's strong with the force and we never see Han take it from him. Han also appears confused in the scene - maybe he can't leave, maybe he can't toss the saber off the bridge, maybe because Kylo Ren has him under control?

Ben Solo wants to be with the darkside - he wants the lightside out. Killing Han is how he feels he can do this.

See... this is what all the friends I went to the movie with thought as well.

I guess I must be morbid because I actually thought Ren was intending to imply that he wanted Han to kill him (ie: There's only one way to end my torment...blah blah blah) and handing over the saber for Han to use. I thought the look on Han's face was something along the lines of "I can't do that", and things turned south. Maybe I was reading too much into it.

I don't necessarily think Han was held there by Kylo. But, I do think Kylo was more interested in using Han to complete his turn to the darkside than coming to the light...

Driver really gave a great performance here, without saying much. The struggle looked real, you could almost read his mind - to me, it was about him shutting the light out... ending those last bits of doubt and completing his turn by killing Han.

Great point!! I guess this scene leaves so much open to interpretation and personal feelings. So much is going on in these scant few seconds of the film.

There's so much going on in this movie and not much to refer back to (yet).

Re: "All I wanna do is complain about TFA" - only thread

I'm disapointed that it did'nt break the Sat sun record.

If this continues it may just suck balls.

This is what some of my friends at Disney were concerned about so you have your work cut out for you.

Go see it next Fri, Sat, Sun 3 times a day!

I am ticked off...that the film is ONLY at 93% audience approval rating and 95% critically. And it only made $230M this weekend. Clearly it sucks balls.

Re: Easter Eggs, Mirroring of the OT in The Force Awakens (SPOILERS INSIDE)

A droid captured by desert scavenger, and meeting up with the hero desert dweller who takes "ownership"

Han has a deal gone bad and has people coming to kill him over it right before the bad guys are informed of him escaping in the Millennium Falcon

The remnants of a bloated old republic finally being swept away so the other faction can take full control and restore proper order and rule to the galaxy as they demonstrate the power of their fully operational battlestation. This destruction is then felt by a force sensitive who has a pause as if she/he just felt millions scream out in agony

The evil guy in black who all the officers are afraid to report to for fear of being force choked

There was lots of things pulled from the other original trilogy movies as well

An exiled Jedi master on a remote planet who the desert dweller must find to properly continue their training

A band of heros who have to land and disable the shields before the fighter can begin the assault

Despite all the overarching plot similarities though, it really was a very enjoyable movie, and better than all of the prequels and even better than Return of The Jedi as well

Sorry everyone I'm trying to read the whole 22 pages from a cell phone here at a resort with spotty Wi-Fi, can someone concisely tell me about this vision of Kylo killing all the apprentices that I've read about? Or link me to the thread? I saw it Thursday and all I can saw is STAR WARS IS BACK AND IS HUUUUGE!

Are there any books or other sources with photos of Luke from the movie? I've seen the leaked photo shoot picture, and pictures of a supposed action figure, but that's it. I'm really tempted to work on that costume. I like that under the robes he's wearing a white version of his ROTJ tunic.

To me when Han says come home to us, is about when Ben/Kylo hands him his saber. Indicating the inner conflict, for a second he wants to do the right thing. He never lets go and gives in fully to the darkside by killing the one person who could have saved him and forgiven him. The more I think about it the more powerful a scene it is. Solo is no longer a smuggling pirate, just a Dad who wants to help his boy.

Blah blah.. don't read if you don't want spoilers (but then we are you in this thread anyway?)

Here is the debate we have been having; when Han comes to Ren on the bridge, did Han change Ren's mind or not? Everyone who saw it with me says that nothing Han said had any effect, but that Han was essentially talking to a wall. I felt like Ren actually changed his mind and truly was handing his saber over and then at the last minute, for whatever reason, the dark side seized him and he finalized his decision which removed the last of the light from him.

I think what Ren said was true - he was being torn up inside due to the good/bad struggle. He needed help to end it. He needed Han to help him go back to the good and I think Han got to him and he was going to do it. As he handed him the saber his hands were open, only after the sun was gone and the room went dark did he change his mind. The look on Ren's face was clearly not a 'gotcha' look when he did it. There was regret in there along with the struggle - subsiding for now. That struggle is his fatal flaw as a villain - possibly overall as well. You never saw Anakin struggle at all. You kill my mom? Poof, i wipe out your village. The guy who's clearly lying through his teeth about being able to save his wife is threatened, bam, off with his arms. Emperor says go kill a bunch of little kids - bam, done. Anakin just fell off a cliff. I think in VIII you'll still see Ren struggling with it as well.

In short, Han did get him back, but something made him do a 180 at the end.

I still have mixed feelings. I go from chills to yawns. In that final trailer, someone says 'who are you?' to which Rey replies 'I'm no one.' I don't think this was ever in the movie, was it?

That's was my take on it as well. Earlier on, I believe even Snoke himself tells Kylo he knows what must be done. When Han said he would do anything for him I think that was the straw that broke the camels back. It was in his mind like Han giving him permission to do what he must. It was almost as if he went into autopilot mode as "lighter" side of him was watching himself without the ability to stop his darker side. Like his light side was staring out of his eyes, but the dark side had control of his body. In a weird way it kind of reminded me of what they say about people who have finally decided to commit suicide. It's like a calm comes over them as the conflict is silenced now that they have made that final choice
