Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

I'd say if Rey is a descendent of Obi-Wan....it would likely have been her Mum.....Obi-Wans daughter,.....& Luke was her dad,....So that explains why she is SO strong,.....Kylo is a Skywalker/Solo,.....HiLo Skywalker:D

This isn't my theory,.....it appeared a few weeks ago around here,....I cant imagine the new Star Wars films not carrying on the blood-line from Anakin to Luke to Rey,.....it cant have stopped at Luke....

Just because Luke pressed a different button doesn't mean the red one doesn't work too, maybe thats why it made a different noise.

I mean why have more than one button anyway if only one of them does anything?

In the visual dictionary for TFA they show Luke's ESB saber and they explain that the big button is a "blade length adjustment" button, and still label the activation box as such

When Max Von Sydow says, "This will begin to make things right," some people took that as an inside jab at the prequels.

I disagree. I now believe it's a deliberate and specific jab at RotJ.

Remember the original treatment of RotJ that was supposedly overhauled by Lucas to its present form, allegedly in the interest of merchandising?

I refer to the LA Times interview with Gary Kurtz from 2010.

"The original idea was that they would recover [the kidnapped] Han Solo in the early part of the story and that he would then die in the middle part of the film in a raid on an Imperial base. George then decided he didn’t want any of the principals killed. By that time there were really big toy sales and that was a reason.” The discussed ending of the film that Kurtz favored presented the rebel forces in tatters, Leia grappling with her new duties as queen and Luke walking off alone “like Clint Eastwood in the spaghetti westerns,” as Kurtz put it."

The outcome of TFA pretty much accomplishes what the original draft of RotJ was supposed to do.
1. Han Solo dies.
2. rebels still fighting
3. Leia in command
4. Luke wanders off as a loner (like Kane from Kung Fu)

Well if you sit and think about it...this film could be considered part two of ROTJ,the end of that film in 1983 might have been right in the middle of the story and now we're picking up in the second half.

Only if Disney and Lucasfilm are planning to do a Sequel Sexilogy (i.e., six sequel movies). So far I haven't heard of any plans past Episodes VII, VIII, and IX, and of course the stand-alone movies, but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen.

Oh come'on we've got the stand alone SW movie next year at this time so what you think we're done and finished with nine? haven't we been told that twice now? never mind all the stand alone films and possible TV shows we've heard mentioned the last few years.

They're gonna be making SW when your great grand kids are having their kids.

I don't doubt that; I'm sure Disney is going to milk every last drop out of their new cash cow. I'm only saying no one has officially announced any plans past 2020 that I'm aware of.

Kyle Newman made a very cogent argument why Kilo Ren is the perfect villain for our current times whereas Vader was a product of the 70's and 80's. Vader is the stoic, faceless, frightening visage of everything from corporate evil to western fears of the Soviet Union and nuclear annihilation. That struck a distinct cord with movies goers of that era. Kylo is scary because he is the out of control lone crazy person the is the embodiment of the random violence of terrorism or worse, the lone gun man who walks into a school or theater with goal of doing evil. That is Kylo Ren and that is why he is scary.

Wanted to talk a little about Rey's lineage and want to know if anyone feels the same way about it. Though I wouldn't mind if she is linked to the Skywalker family or even to Obi-Wan, I wish it could be established that she is just strong with the Force and not cause she is blood related to a prior Jedi.

But having her as Luke's daughter does make things more personal for Luke. And this dynamic likely will go well with the audience, who then might have more affinity towards her and might be more accepting of Rey's strong ways with the Force especially if they were skeptical before.
