Covertec actually made a version very similar to this back in the 1990's. I have one... I'll try and dig it out and post a picture.

Here's pictures of the two "oddball" Covertec clips I got from an eBay seller about 24+ years ago. I was buying the normal "prequel style" clips from him (I think he was a Covertec dealer) and he said he had these two that were a little different. I bought them from him because they were only about $8.00 each.
The extended one that is similar to the Acolyte style is 3 11/16" tall by 2 1/4" wide and looks to accept up to a 1 1/2" wide belt.

Makes you wonder if someone in the Acolyte props dept. may have had one like mine or had maybe seen one before to get the idea??
Like I mentioned, I only bought them at the time because they were different and the price was right.
I kinda like how they hang down from the belt like that! Kinda OT looking.

They’ve pretty much confirmed it was for practical reasons, but you’re not wrong in that these sabers all could easily be Savi’s shop style pieces.
Seeing the full hilt more in tonight’s episode, the separation is kind of a cheat I think. I mean, I’m not an internals junkie, it’s all space fantasy tech magic so it’s fine, but I don’t think there’s room for two complete real-life internals.
I think this is the saber that Lesley had talked about. She requested some special lightsaber to the prop guys and they said it was not possible, so they somehow made it work with some trickery (cheat as you said).
