Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

Her performance was incredible. You could feel her vulnerability and literally see her building up her protective wall again after the "fix". The reunion with her friends was really nice and you could see that she finally decided to act more "human". Not much, but ever so slightly. Great moment. But hell, that matryoshka ship! Remember when I speculated that the cockpit would detach? I was completely counting on that but I was not prepared to what happened instead at all! HOLY, we need a model of that ship!!!

There is so much right with this show, it absolutely deserves a continuation!

Even Acolyte fans would have to agree with you.

She acted the scene so beautifully. Wonderful young actress.

I hope that these characters grow up in the SW universe and we see them for years to come.
You know, it feels a little bad to think of all the times many of us ripped on Jake Lloyd for being a terrible actor (especially given the direction his life took after he never really worked again post TPM)... but he WAS a terrible actor. It's not his fault per se, he just wasn't ready for that kind of role-- and that falls on the casting director and Lucas for not seeing it. People defended him saying that's how child actors were.

These kids are proving that's definitely not the case. Granted they are a touch older, but still...

Point being, Jon Watts and his casting director did half their work for Skeleton crew by casting these kids. I love these kids. Even when Fern is being a total jerk I still feel for her. The reason this show works is cause these kids not only know how to act, but they've been perfectly cast in their roles. That's what made Goonies work so well. And really-- the MCU Spider-Man movies also work so well because of casting-- so clearly Watts knows this is his secret weapon.

I think this is the secret sauce that is making this show work better than most of the others. That... (much like Andor) it's not expanding half its energy beating us over the head to remind us that it is Star Wars.

Gonna disagree with you a bit RE: Jake Lloyd. We don't KNOW what kind of actor he is. He's only had a handful of roles outside of Star Wars (and I would argue that he was fine in Jingle All the Way), and NOTHING since 2001.

Quite frankly, the blame for his performance lies firmly with George. If Jake were the only bad/stilted/wooden performance in that movie, I would agree that he's a bad actor. However, Lucas had MULTIPLE Oscar nominated/winning actors in that movie and nearly all of them were terrible. You have to be pretty terrible at directing to get a bad performance from Natalie Portman and Liam Neeson.

Don’t mind the arrow. I grabbed this from screen crush, I thought the leg was funny

I'm throwing him more shade than he deserves. Regardless of his talent, it all lands on Lucas. For the script, for the casting, for the direction.

Wim's constant face of bewilderment, while still conveying whatever emotional state he's in, could not be done by most kid actors...

And the change in posture, voice, everything when KB is shutting down versus revived was great.

Even last episode when Fern was crying "You can't do this to us. We're just kids" was fantastic.

Kid acting is why I almost didn't give this a chance... Those girls on Acolyte were pretty bad. What would an entire 8 episodes of that acting be like?!

I didn't know it was John Watts steering the ship! If I didn't keep hearing from so many that it was good, I never woulda checked it out. what are the numbers like on this?!

Jake Lloyd -

Child actors that age are normally bad. Like, unwatchable in scenes with real drama.

I guarantee you they looked at 100+ kids for that role, and I guarantee you Jake's acting was in the top 10% of them.

"Papa Smurf always says...If you don't want to be spoiled watching Star Wars Skeleton Crew then have enough self control not to go into an online thread titled "Star Wars Skeleton Crew" ...sometimes in life we can't have our smurfberries and eat them too."

...."but...but...i want to discuss this show with my friends and not spoil it for anyone else."

"That's fine...discuss what you saw. If others fail to heed the advice of Papa Smurf, it's their own fault. If you want to exclusively have a thread that only has comments that say "That was a great episode" or " I didn't like it" and not give reasons why for the sake of spoiling it for others then eventually you won't have a thread at all worth thinking about."

I know, i know...throw me out of the village now. lol

Your in depth knowledge of smurf's is disturbing :)

Ill have to watch that ship part again, but did the cockpit move from being on the left to being in the center somehow?

TPM should have never started with Anakin that young. Just seeing how much better the character was in Ashoka shows he should have been this age in Revenge of the Sith.

I really like this series. It feels fresh and good, and not forced in bringing real life politics onto the screen. To me it's probably the second best SW series after Andor. Although I have to say that the story isn't that thrilling. But I'm not critizing it. It's the first season after all, and with two episodes left, I'll wait what they will come up with.
I really dig the pirate setting, and surprisingly it fits really well into the SW universe. Reminded me of the old/first Marvel comics back from the 70s/80s.

Seeing the old webisode (3000 Anakins) I don't understand until today why of the last three contenders they chose Lloyd. The kid Devon Michael was awesome, and he could had have bring a more serious and darker note to the character.

I’m surprised that no ones mentioned, let alone hasn’t complained about the dad wearing glasses.
I did complain about it to my wife. I know there are one or two examples of earlier eyewear, but my larger complaint actually is that they resemble the single most recognized brand popularized by 80's rap stars. I shouldn't look at a Star Wars character and think " Oh, those are copying Run DMC's Cazal"

Fair enough.

Well, you'd think that with all the tech they have, they wouldn't need glasses anymore:rolleyes::lol: It's a way for the producers to toy with us in researching/buying more products:p:p

Now, to be fair, I think making glasses not look "of Earth" is very difficult. This is why I think Lucas' decision to almost completely avoid them is the wiser choice.
