STAR WARS Rebels new animated series!

I'm certain that as the show goes on things will improve, I thought that The Clone Wars was a little rough in the beginning at it took me a while to get used to the used to the art world style but by the end I was really loving the show. I'm sure that as Rebels goes on the writers will get a better feel for the characters and what they want to do with the show, there's a lot they can do in this time period given how little of it has been covered in previous canon. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to seeing more, the only thing that I wish they'd change is Ezra's hair, it's just too plasticy for my tastes, like something from the early days of 3D animation before they figured out how to do hair right.

So, who's going to do a Zeb costume now? I know I'm going to attempt a Agent Kallus/Imperial Enforcer costume for Wondercon next year, just need to get some screen caps of the back of his costume for reference.

The show was quite ok, I didn't have high hopes at first, but was better than expected. A bit too stretched with the might of Empire being fooled so easily by a small gang of rebels, plus some of the scenes were too artificial, but I guess they were ok for a cartoon. I was never a fan of Clone Wars, but I kind of Like Rebels.

Not that I would start collecting from the show or that I'd get the DVD unless a big discount. But nice to get back in the SW universe even if the animated characters and some of the locations are a bit too stylized. It captures the feel of OT pretty well, with minor exceptions/fails. Will be waiting for more

I like the McQuarrie nod:

And Rebels Specter 1 ship that looks a lot like the Aliens Narcissus ship:

I really dislike the mcquarrie-verse. I love his concept art, but it was always just that. Concept. It was an exaggerated version of the very real and gritty galaxy we got.

They have the means, why can't they make the tiefighters look like tiefighters? Sure, it's nice to pay tribute, but that doesn't mean everything needs to be cartoonish

I agree with the second part of your message regarding the cartoonish look.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Macquarrie designs, but they always seem undeveloped to me. They still had that slick 50's era sci-fi look. By time they reached the audience they were developed into that used, battle worn, realistic galaxy that we fell in love with.

Just watched it. I didn't think it was too bad. I got tired of Clone Wars after about 1 and 1/2 seasons. Just could not stand that "glass/plastic" style of animation that it had. At least this looks a little more real, not much bit a little. I enjoyed seeing OT tech and ships and like the way the TIE fighters blew up and spun out of control. I agree the kid's hair looks like he has eels growing out of his head. But I definitely liked the look of Obi Wan better than CW. Was any of those Wookies Chewie? Wasn't Chewie a slave when Han met rescued him? That would be something neat to work in.

I'll give this a chance.

Oh man....you stopped watching clone wars? Holy smokes. In many ways, it became the best of the star wars universe. Season 3 is when it really took off. Here are the three greatest achievements of the clone wars:
1. Brought back Darth maul and gave him the story arc he deserved
2. Transformed ashoka from being the worst character and turned her into the most developed one. She might even be the most important star wars character...from a certain point of view
3. Simply by association, it made the prequels more enjoyable

one of the first videos David F posted about developing Rebels was about the reason he was using the McQ style. He stated that the designs were askew from what we know in the original trilogy so it would be a good representation of the time period. So what you are seeing is a 5 year predecessor of the TIE you know. So theoretically as the show progresses and the run I'd long enough, you may see TIEs that look more proportion to A New Hope.

It's funny. When I was younger and watching ANH, I always assumed that the rebel fighters were actually old imperial vehicles that they bought used off a black market.

Which, considering the ARC fighters and y-wings seen in the prequels and clone wars, makes a lot of sense.

I assumed that the tie fighters were new and disposable but certain imperial vehicles like AT-ATs were older (since they has so much weathering.

It was a mixed bag for me...I'll definitely stick it out, because pilots always have to jam a lot in. I really, really dislike watching on TV with all the stupid pop up ads for phineas and ferb. But that's not the show's fault of course.

I'm digging the nods to the OT, although some of them are a bit the nose, like the Obi hologram actually using the phrase "a new hope." Then I remind myself that I'm not the target audience. Likewise, some of the McQuarrie designs don't really do it for me. Zeb in particular....I never liked the concept wookie. The more Samurai inspired trooper helmets on the other hand, I do like.

It wasn't that I completely stopped watching I just said I got tired of it. I saw the episodes you spoke of--still didn't care for it.

I personally can't find fault with this show what-so-ever! Love Love LOVE this movie!
Can't wait for the series to start... the animation, color balance, composition of design and overall appearance was exceptional.
Action Action ACTION!!!! Adventure! OT sound effects, music, fun characters... everything I wanted and we even got a Wilhelm scream! :D

okay, yes, the wookies were a bit skinny :lol otherwise I loved it all even their ship The Ghost which I wasn't fully on board with when the design was first presented but now I love it!

I'm a fan! I went ahead and bought a season pass at iTunes... more fun to watch with no commercials or DisneyXD promo overlays.

I mocked the crap out of the Aladdin thing. I was wrong. This show is going to be amazing. LOVED Spark of Rebellion.

EDIT: Just watched Droids in Distress. Outstanding. I've never been happier to admit I was mistaken. It feels like Star Wars through and through. A little PT, a little EU, and a whole happy helping of that sweet, sweet OT. Wonderful.

I'm just wondering where this show can possibly end up? If all this is taking place 4 years prior to the OT, obviously both the kid and the Jedi dude are going to have to die. By the time Luke comes along isn't he the last of the Jedi?

But they did show the end of Asoka in CW either did they? That will really suck if they do it that way.

I think it's a little more than just 4 years, but I could be mistaken. For some reason I want to say 15, but that could just be the difference between the end of the PT and the start of ANH. Regardless, even if it's not 15 years I'm fairly certain that it's more than just 4 because, from what I gather, in Rebels the Rebellion is only just getting started and there is no Rebel Alliance yet, just, as the title of the pilot episode suggests, the spark of rebellion. This is something that, as I mentioned early on in this thread, they cover, the formation of the Rebel Alliance and how it came to be; presumably from various different and isolated rebel cells and movements. If they go that route I hope that we see differences of opinions within the fledging Alliance as different rebel groups have different ideas on how to do things, some advocating for more straight forward military style tactics like we see in the movies, some for more guerillla tactics, some for hitting anybody and anything even remotely associated with the Empire, while others prefer to stick to strictly military and hardcore Imperial personnel and buildings.

Does anyone have a theory to why the jedi decided to reveal himself to storm troopers rather than keep his identiy/lightsaber secret? To me it seems like a huge risk that will only attract the attention of the empire and the sith.

I think that he did in order to buy time for the Wookies and the rest of the Ghost crew to get to the shipping container. I guess he knew that if he came out of the closet, as it were, they would focus their entire attention on him and not his friends or the Wookies, plus it allowed him to use his entire bag of tricks openly and thus more effectively than if he were to try to just use his telekinesis on the sly.
