Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi (tv series)

PTSD should break a normal human, the things he's had to deal with are unimaginable. But Kenobi is a Jedi Master in a fictional universe where it seems logical one of the most powerful Masters in the galaxy, who has spent his life in devotion to the force would have emotional, mental and spiritual tools to deal with PTSD that regular people don't have. He shouldn't be as broken as he is in this IMO.
I get what you're saying, I just disagree. They could have probably written a version of this story where Kenobi was "ok" 10 years after RotS, but I think the route they went makes him more human, and therefore relatable and interesting. The toolbox for making things interesting, as far as writers are concerned, generally leans into making your characters more human (even if they're basically superhuman) and giving them problems to deal with and overcome.

I guarantee they had discussions about what Obi Wan's mental state was going to be when this series picked up, they didn't happen upon this outcome by default. So far, I trust them to land the arc.

I don't think Star Wars is built to be that type of character study. It's Star Wars, not Citizen Kane.
Yep, understood; it ain't Citizen Kane...but why not go deeper into an affected-PTSD-Jedi (not a Master, mind you) still trying to train/to contact his Master + surviving in the desert while protecting Luke? Even speeding-up the time-line and have a older Luke? Also, Obi-Wan's frayed relationship with the Lars family.

If South Park taught me anything it's that everyone is overreaching in the streaming wars. No one has any 'tegridy left. Even Disney.
Looking forward to everyone realizing you can’t all have your own channel.

I actually mostly watch YouTube. I’d rather watch video essays and discussions on old stuff I like than new stuff.

Or 4 schlubs in Milwaukee drinking beer and watching terrible movies…

I agree those can be interesting stories, but I don't think they fit in the visual style of Star Wars in film as depicted thus far. It would be a huge departure from the adventure stories we've always gotten, and I feel like if they're going to do something like that it's going to end up in a book or comic because of the spectacle factor.

And before you say the Lion King watch a Japanese movie called Kimba.

Also… as far as bringing up Lion King\ Kimba History with Disney

May wanna read this book* for your Lucas history…

But does it make either less fantastic or praiseworthy? Even though neither credited their inspirations?

Nope! I can enjoy em all!

*One day I may even get past page 40! (Denis’ movie actually made this book make a lot more sense… ha. Reading now…)

Funny walking behind two younger guys on the way out of the recent Dune movie… their conversation:

“This movie totally ripped off Star Wars”

“actually it’s a remake of a movie that was made to rip off Star Wars in the 70’s…”

Dude. Don’t watch Disney stuff then. Star Wars or otherwise.
I have to watch DSW I love a good train wreck and it keeps my hopes up that one can survive a lobotomy. The Mandalorian is getting his mind back,BOBF alas is just drooling, and Obi-wan is still in limbo.
They got this thing called “prime” (not like the transformer guy - and yea I already knew they came from Japan. I’m up on that)
LOL well done sir,I would share a dab or spliff with you for that one.

You have a good point with characters not being human enough as I think a huge problem with many modern superhero movies. Often hoards them fighting each other at once all with over the top superpowers gets ridiculous and boring while showing a complete lack of humanity. I can see why one would prefer the extreme of being incredibly humanly flawed over the opposite of being superhero perfect. Lucky for us those aren't the only two options as there's a massive area in between.

I wasn't suggesting making Kenobi entirely "ok" more functional in role as Jedi Master in hiding who will one train a potential savior of the universe. Training, practicing forms, meditating, learning, making himself a better man, all for Luke. Again the well loved Kenobi novel is a good example of one of the many ways this story could've been very interesting while taking the story in another direction.

Not trying to bash, just discuss and hopefully find more things to like about it.

*Edited down as I repeated myself.

Off topic but I wish Matt Stone and Trey Parker would come out with a strain called tegridy, hell they bought Casa Bonita in CO so why not.
I’ll further derail…

Strain? Are they in the weed biz?

Not that it matters in Canada… gov regulates so it’s pretty weak and lame… and they won’t bring in strains from US

The non regulated (where I go) is much better, but they can’t bring in strains from outside.

In regards to everyone who may have been confused, shocked, maybe even disgusted, regarding Kenobi’s pronounced cowardice in his first run-in with Darth Vader, in Obi-Wan Kenobi, I have to join you all on that assessment, unfortunately.

There was more than enough of the crucial “High-Ground“ to be had in the area….

I don’t get it…

Why didn't they just walk around the fence? It was just blocking the road...

I like the show so far, despite my small complaints. I just think that, like the Boba Fett show, this show just seems like it could go from being good, to excellent with a little more thinking and better writing. I totally like that Obi-Wan has PTSD, but it would have made a LOT more sense if it was 1-5 years after ROTS. I mean this is 10 years later and he's still in that mindset? I think in the first 5 years you would deal with that. I just think for what they are doing now, it should have been set 1-5 years after ROTS and it would have made a lot more sense. So far, like someone said, the Kenobi novel (and Rise of Darth Vader to some extent) did this better than the show.

I agree with almost all the above. I don't hate the show but I def had hoped for a higher standard considering this is a show about Obi-wan Kenobi of all people. So much feels phoned in or not that well thought out. I agree the Kenobi book would've been a much better basis, if they just had to do this thing. Maybe the second half will really blow our socks off.

I think that the writer and the production, as a whole, should've gone "Japanese Samurai" kinda look/feel/story with OWK.
Hermite trying to reach his Master; training and watching Luke for 20 years...that's no small jobo_O
