Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi (tv series)

I agree. From a visual design standpoint, TPM felt the most "OT" to me.

But moreover my problem with Disney-era blades isn't so much the design, as I feel like the use of LED blades hinders the performance of the actors who are afraid of breaking the blades. The duels in Disney era feel less intense, even by comparison of the OT duels. I'm not asking for Obi-Wan and Vader to be doing flips, but c'mon, their duel in ANH showed more intensity and speed.

Yeah something about those saber glows just felt off to me... like it was super obvious they were using practical blades and they just looked weird somehow. Like they felt like toys?

Now that I've seen practical glowing sabers onscreen, the ones from the older movies stick out like a sore thumb as a post production effect. Before, our brains could just assume that light sabers glow without throwing out a bunch of fill light (somehow).

So it looks to ME that he’s using the same saber he uses in ANH, the only differences are the addition of the Covertech knob and no d-ring. Any other differences?

Obi Wan Episode 3 was not bad but also not good.
The fight on this boring planet had really a feeling of a youtube fanfilm.
And that Kenobi is only a weakling 10 Years after Episode 3 is so unbelievable. What a joke.Luke in TLJ was bad..but this is much worse.
And Vaders helmet and suit...looks like a mix of Episode 3 and OT...no complete revealmask?Really? An ESB Reveal? But the Vader-scenes overall are cool.

When Vader and Obi-Wan initially ignited their lightsabers I honestly had moments of pure excitement which was fun. I really liked the power Vader showed in his strikes against Kenobi and his general ferocity in the episode. Fight choreography could use improvement. When Vader lifted Kenobi up with the force I was immediately reminded of ROTS when Dooku did the same and then tossed Kenobi across the room. Keeping the duel to a minimum was much better than making an epic 10 minute ROTS scale fight.

I don't understand why Vader didn't put out the second fire to go after Kenobi other than it was necessary to let him be rescued. He just stood there. Doesn't make a shred of sense. The Dialogue between Obi-Wan and Vader didn't have the weight/impact of ANH or even ROTS mainly because it was so trite. "You made me what I am," thats just lazy writing.

The inquisitors internal struggle for power is barely worth mentioning, I just don't care. I'd genuinely like to though.

It seems like they're going to make Kenobi involved with helping other Jedi survivors in the future instead of just watching over Luke to train him eventually. I have mixed feelings about that which partially depend on his level of involvement. But no doubt even a small involvement in any anti empire activities will put himself and Luke at risk which seems like a counterintuitive choice.

Leia and Kenobi's interactions were better in this episode with the exception of yelling at her. There were moments I saw adult Leia in her younger counterpart which genuinely made me smile. Looking forward to more with Owen later hopefully. He's so well done and one of the highlights of series for me. He doesn't need to turn out to be Kenobi's long lost brother though.

This episode was better than the previous 2.

Yep, I caught that cooperpullin.
I will say that I did like the dialog. Reminded me of this:

“When I left you I was but the learner. Now, *I* am the master.“ Or not…
Why does Disney+ continue to demystify these characters? I’m sure Obiwan will regain his abilities in a dramatic final episode, but why does he literally just kneel down in front of a few stormtroopers? I can understand he’s conflicted when facing Vader, but why with everyone else? Just a little frustrated by this. I thought Reva’s acting was better this episode but the neopixel blade effects were hard to ignore.

I think the idea with Kenobi bitching out is to frustrate the audience knowing the power he once had. He will hulk out eventually and become the Kenobi we see in ep4.

Why did he not use a Jedi mind trick?

BTW. Why were the previous two episodes shown during Celebration where few attendees could see it without using an illegal stream site or VPN from their hotel room? Or were also they shown to all attendees at the con?

So...I'm watching the episode again and...

I'm listening to the conversation between Obi-Wan and Leia in the back of the space pickup truck when I notice Obi-Wan mention a brother...as a baby. My 6yr old son whispers in my ear, " he's talking about Anakin"...Wait...What did you say? " Anakin...his little baby brother was Anakin ". When I heard my son say that, Obi-Wans words from ROTS rang in my ears( you were my brother Anakin...I loved you). Before you get all upset, yes I understand Shmi Skywalker said there was no father but...in honesty, my heart just sank and I found myself saying..."Don't do it Disney...we have the high ground"

It just happened to be what came in my mind when my son said that...lol

The sad thing is i could honestly see Disney making these two actual brothers ( or half brothers)which would mean Obi-Wan is Luke and Leia's Uncle and yet a Kenobi at the same time and doesn't even know it because he, himself doesn't remember his childhood all that much.

All this sounds crazy to me but It's not out of the realm of possibility when Disney is involved...lol.

Little Leia is the cutest kid ever.
She has all the spitfire of a young Carrie Fisher. I love it!

I thought it was a reference to early script treatments when Owen was literally Obi-Wan's brother.

I would say this episode was 'decent', I would describe the whole show (so far) as decent. There are some great things but also some pretty big flaws. Leia I think is one of the best parts, something about child actors will always be annoying but as far as they go, they made a great casting choice with this one. Not a fan of Reva personally, she doesn't do much for me but maybe there is something good planned for later.

Kenobi himself is kind of weird to watch. Part of what I liked before this show was the mystery of not knowing everything he had done between ROTS and ANH. Of course I assumed he would have done something interesting at some point but fighting Vader and rescuing Leia? - If you are going to do that, you better do it damn well and make it still make sense / fit in with the OT. I quite like how Obi-Wan is 'rusty' and depressed but part of me also wanted a version where he kept himself fit, continued to practise fighting, on high alert and hopeful while still 'hiding' - I think he was like this in legends. I could take either version if done well but leaving Luke alone on Tatooine when things were starting to heat up seemed just a little bit out of character, even if Leia was in danger.

As for Vader, I love seeing him on screen and any scene with him is great to watch but I honestly feel a bit let down by the action. The action in this series (but especially this episode) has a 'fan-film' feeling about it. I think the way it's shot combined with the planet just looking like somewhere in a Nevada makes it feel like it was 2 guys dressed up in robes, swinging Neo-pixel blades while someone filmed with an iPhone. I'm not asking for anything over the top like the Mustafar fight but this seems to be like the fight from ANH on the Death Star - if not worse. The level I would expect at this stage would be exactly like what is portrayed in SC 38 Reimagined -
- I'm sure everyone has seen it but there's the link anyway. Obi-Wan is clearly rusty and not as good as he was in his youth but could still 'keep up' with Vader who was unleashing his hate. This is what I think was missing in this fight, 10 years of anger and searching for Kenobi but when he finds him, it's like he hardly tries. Also complete bs that a little bit of fire is what stopped that fight. I'm guessing they are saving everything for the 'proper' fight still to come but this just left me a bit dry.

Still miles better than Beta Fett and I'm interested to see what comes next.

Like I said...hopefully, say it won't be so...lol, btw, I still can't reply ....how were you able? Yes, Leia has become the star...I'm wondering if they will show a little Luke too, up close and talking.
