I would say this episode was 'decent', I would describe the whole show (so far) as decent. There are some great things but also some pretty big flaws. Leia I think is one of the best parts, something about child actors will always be annoying but as far as they go, they made a great casting choice with this one. Not a fan of Reva personally, she doesn't do much for me but maybe there is something good planned for later.
Kenobi himself is kind of weird to watch. Part of what I liked before this show was the mystery of not knowing everything he had done between ROTS and ANH. Of course I assumed he would have done something interesting at some point but fighting Vader and rescuing Leia? - If you are going to do that, you better do it damn well and make it still make sense / fit in with the OT. I quite like how Obi-Wan is 'rusty' and depressed but part of me also wanted a version where he kept himself fit, continued to practise fighting, on high alert and hopeful while still 'hiding' - I think he was like this in legends. I could take either version if done well but leaving Luke alone on Tatooine when things were starting to heat up seemed just a little bit out of character, even if Leia was in danger.
As for Vader, I love seeing him on screen and any scene with him is great to watch but I honestly feel a bit let down by the action. The action in this series (but especially this episode) has a 'fan-film' feeling about it. I think the way it's shot combined with the planet just looking like somewhere in a Nevada makes it feel like it was 2 guys dressed up in robes, swinging Neo-pixel blades while someone filmed with an iPhone. I'm not asking for anything over the top like the Mustafar fight but this seems to be like the fight from ANH on the Death Star - if not worse. The level I would expect at this stage would be exactly like what is portrayed in SC 38 Reimagined -
- I'm sure everyone has seen it but there's the link anyway. Obi-Wan is clearly rusty and not as good as he was in his youth but could still 'keep up' with Vader who was unleashing his hate. This is what I think was missing in this fight, 10 years of anger and searching for Kenobi but when he finds him, it's like he hardly tries. Also complete bs that a little bit of fire is what stopped that fight. I'm guessing they are saving everything for the 'proper' fight still to come but this just left me a bit dry.
Still miles better than Beta Fett and I'm interested to see what comes next.
