Already seeing people whining about Reva. I'm really starting to hate this fandom.
Hm. Legit criticism is "whining". Got it.
I thought [Reva] was interesting and the show is off to a strong start
She is actively anti-interesting. Her one-note so far is over-the-top "
SENPAI PLEASE NOTICE ME!" by trying to catch Obi-Wan for Vader. And pissing literally everyone off in the process.
Maybe it could be written or acted with more nuance, but it isn't. By the time the second episode rolled around, I was cringing every time she was on screen. My casual-fan girlfriend was asked what she thought about Reva the next day and she rolled her eyes and blurted, "Ugh! She is the
worst!"
Luke and Leia were decent precocious ten-year-olds, and Ben kept a decent distance from Luke, with good friction with Owen, And I appreciate something happening with the other twin being the only suitable hook to get Ben off Tatooine -- but he shouldn't meet Leia. I consider it as canon-breaking as Vader seeing her ship flee the Battle of Scarif from the belly of the Rebel flagship after the
Death Star plans were hand-delivered, rather than "beamed" to her ship. That is, not utterly story-destroying, but something that leaves even casual Star Wars viewers with an unpleasantly vague sense of "off-ness".
Oh boy. The Inquisitors. Just plain awful. Cartoonish, silly, juvenile, and poorly acted. Everyone’s chewing the scenery but worse than that is that the actors clearly don’t think they are—they think they’re putting out some grand performance. The worst by a wide margin is Moses Ingram’s character. Terrible. There is a long, long sequence of her parkouring over rooftops and it’s just unwatchable.
I liked Fourth Sister. But that may be because she didn't do much. I still feel Rupert had entirely the wrong build to play the Grand Inquisitor. never mind bad contacts and prosthetics. His voice was okay, and if that was the selling point, dubbing it over another physical actor I would have preferred. Fifth Brother I didn't even realize was Fifth Brother, he looks so different from how he's supposed to, but he was at least well-written and -acted -- if only he'd been a different character.
A little Temuerra Morrison cameo as a Clone Wars vet. It’s a nice touch, I suppose. Weird that he’s in full armor, and it’s coincidentally the 501st too.
I'm surprised they don't have an "old troopers' home". Wonder how he fell through the cracks. I was half hoping he'd see all the notices about Obi-Wan going up all over and have Order 66 reflexes kick in.
Kumail Najiani (I hope I spelled that right) wasn’t nearly as irritating or as present as I’d feared he’d be.
Oh, I loved him. He was probably the best part of the first two episodes.
Oh, and freaking heck, why was Flea on this show? So, so weird.
Didn't bother me in the least. I totally buy him as a depraved mercenary. *lol*
I really liked Kumali Nanjiani's character, though his redemption was rather hurried. Did I miss something significant with him knowing Obi Wan's name?
Yes. Reva put the notice out all over that Obi-Wan was on the planet. He saw it and went to find Obi-Wan first.
So. Reva. The Grand Inquisitor calls her "the least of us". Fifth Brother seems to be over her in the pecking order. That made me wonder about the ranking. I figured, from Rebels, that the Grand Inquisitor stand in for "First", and the rest are descending from there, however far. Now I've gone back and reassessed. Ninth and Tenth were instructors at the Temple. The rest have been co-opted Padawans and Younglings. Seventh Sister, in Rebels, was pretty effective. Second Sister, in Fallen Order, is definitely struggling, and eventually flips sides (and is killed for it). So it seems there are ten Inquisitors at any given time, lowest numbered the newest or most-watched, for lack of tenure or ability. And, other sources give us a Third Brother closer to the time of Star Wars, so I am hoping that lets us know Reva is going to be dead by the end of this series, and good riddance to Third Sister.
And either the Grand Inquisitor isn't dead, or they're directly contradicting Rebels.
