Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi (tv series)

Ewan and Hayden look like they haven't aged a day past ROTS as they appeared at Celebration. I'm really excited for them. Whether we like the series or not i feel compelled to support the actors and actresses for their awesome opportunity to be affiliated with Star Wars. I personally never was thrilled with the prequels but the charcters that were introduced were pretty good and i respect them. The fact that Ewan consistantly talks about Alec Guinness, as well as the original cast did shows how much respect he has to those that came before him. He will always be a fan favorite...great actor.

Agreed. I wasn't at all a fan of Hayden's portrayal of Anakin nor loved Ewan as Obi-wan as much as most seem to, but both seem like genuine and likable guys. I'm glad they have the spotlight once again and had a shot to again portray these characters. Though I never loved the PT, I did grow up with them and 20 years later, I do feel oddly nostalgic nevertheless.

I agree with you guys- I think little Leia doing a good job- she literally is 9 years old (turns 10 in June). It’s difficult playing a precocious, stubborn character (as Leia should be) without crossing the line into constantly irritating.

The little kid playing Leia is adorable, but the writing for the character is a bit all over the place. When we're introduced to her she seemed wise beyond her years, the retort to the snobby cousin was excellent. Yet, after her rescue she appears to be less wise and defaults back to any small kid, i.e. "make me float!", curious about food and getting excited about buying things.

A smart kid is still a kid.

So, I was watching a video from a writer friend of mine who does reacts videos for media, and on episode 2, she was complaining about Leia not trusting Obi-Wan and trying to get away from him, leading to shenanigans... and that got me thinking.

Leia has 0 reason to believe Ben. Frankly, Bail was stupid not to give him some means of proving himself to Leia. Honestly, she's a princess. Does the royal court of Alderaan have no protocols for this? I mean, she's a PRINCESS. Her father is a senator who has a history of making enemies because he champions positions that aren't popular with powerful people. At the very least, they should have a code phrase that a rescuer can give in order to prove that he/she is on the up and up.

I mean, this is stuff we teach normal kids today, it seems like it would be the absolute bare minimum for a royal who would be a prime target for abduction...

As a fellow writer I can explain.

My name is Ben, your father sent me to save you.

What’s the code word?

Snuggle bunny.

Ok, let’s go.

23 second scene, no action.

Shenanigans

7:30 minute scene, lots of action.

Yeah, yeah. I know. I'm just saying, it's an oversight.

Also, there still could have been shenanigans and action even if they did have the logical precautions, they just would have had to take another route to get there. :)

I know, I know, I KNOW that I'm reading too much into it, but I felt that it showed that although Bail was 'aware' of the danger of the Empire, he still felt it was kinda distant. There's no way it could reach all the way to Alderaan. Also seemed like they kept Leia EXTREMELY sheltered & they relied on that to keep her safe.

I mean, even their security team seemed like they were more ceremonial that efficient.

I am 31, and though I really enjoyed the prequels as a kid, the older I got, the more I enjoyed the OT. Even in 2005, I would still claim ANH as my preferred film.

But now, several years later, I will still have the urge to watch one of the PT films just to remember how excited I was about them. Or to recall how much my grandma enjoyed the podrace and seeing Theed, or my grandpa taking me to see ROTS at midnight (and then going to Walmart where we saw a guy selling hotdogs at 3am). For me, it’s become more of the experience and memories than the stories or execution.

Despite my disappointment in how they turned out, going to watch the prequels in the theaters are still some of my happiest experiences. I would love to watch them again on the big screen if the chance ever comes up.

I worked at an animation studio that was bringing people all around the world to Vancouver Canada for a project (rare at the time)

The excitement was nuts. The place went ballistic watching the downloaded trailer on a small TV during one of our parties…

To relive the day after the release (everyone went as groups to the midnight screening)… that confused silence… the guy who kicked and exploded his blow-up darth maul chair… the over reactions and apologists…

In retrospect it was so much fun! Haha
