Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi (tv series)

If Obi Wan is going on quick covert missions to undermine Vader and Empire, but he and Vader don’t cross paths, I see this working quite well.

In my opinion, Obi Wan was the best character both in portrayal and performance in the prequels, I’ve always wanted more Kenobi.

Yeah but they still look good for their ages. I think they could pull it off. Just seems like that would be a more interesting series than Obi-Wan on his own pre ANH.
No idea if it works with Hayden as he literally would have to play 15-20 years younger. Ewan, on the other hand was supposed to be in his 40's in ROTS i believe, so he was playing 20 years older than he was in reality. So, THAT could work.

It's funny, prior to the prequels I always imagined Anakin to be roughly the age that Hayden is right now so it works for me in that way. But I admit for others that hold steadfast to the prequels, it's a tougher sell.

You do realize the potential this has to ruin what we know of the character? I mean, sure it's early so we won't know for sure what they will do, but it doesn't concern anyone?

Obi-Wan Kenobi is an icon and the prospect of seeing more of him on the surface sounds great but it could easily be a very divisive choice. Expressing a concern over the direction of a beloved character isn't a crime, nor is it helpful to tell people not to watch it. The Mandalorian may be good but it doesn't mean that everything they touch will now be gold just because their SW television content so far is good. Their SW films still suck hard.

If they do it similar to the Kenobi book, it would be pretty cool. If they have him running off to other planets every other week it won't make sense.

It very well could. He and vader don't have to meet, but one effective way to keep your target from finding something in location A, is to reveal yourself subtly in locations B-Z. Send them off in wild goose chases to areas you're not actually protecting.

We flatly DO NOT know that he was on Tat 100% of the time after dropping off Luke. We also know that Vader had no idea he had a kid until after ANH. We still don't know how he put it together, it's just revealed as known in ESB. There was no epiphany moment in the trench run, or anything. So, the goal in protecting Luke would be making sure no one knows there's a connection. I mean, face it, had Vader figured it out while Ben was on the planet in protector mode what happens? Maybe he sends a squad to get him. "Sorry boss, some guy with a glowy sword like yours showed up and kicked our asses".....Next thing, vader pops down himself with 100 or more troops and Ben is totally screwed unless he gets a heads up and takes the kid and runs off world.

So, i'd say his goal is to keep the secret, not to be a front line defender.

Obi-wan was 38 in RoTS with Ewan being 34.

If vader knew obi-wan was on tat, he still wouldn't know to look for a son he had no clue existed in the first place. Luke is safe from being discovered so obi-wan can leave for a mission. Vader couldn't even recognize his own daughter standing in front of him.

I think the line they will play off of is "I sense a presence I haven't felt since...." or whatever the line is. So I expect a V vs O fight.

I agree that another Vader Obi Wan fight is likely but I doubt Vader will go back to Tatooine again though. His mother died there which he blames himself for and going there would open that wound (but then again Vader is clearly a total masochist as he chose Mustafar to build his Castle on). I'm sure some part of him also blames the Lars family for his mother's death. If he was on Tatooine I would imagine that he would want to kill them which would be slightly problematic for continuity.

These set photos match some shots from the Andor sizzle reel apparently, so I think it’s more likely they are for that production than Obi-Wan.

what I hope for in this show when it comes to Vader action is that we see him interact with the Inquisitors as well as hunting down remnant and emergent Jedi. That’s something that has bothered me since the prequels, that they disregarded Ben’s description of Vader helping the Empire hunt down the Jedi knights.

As far as Vader knew the baby died with Padme. As for not recognizing Leia, no one even knew Padme was having twins until she was giving birth to them. Momentarily setting aside that absurdity, because in a world of such amazing technology there is no way the doctors would not see two heartbeats. Then again the delivery Droid had spatulas for hands and spoke in creepy robotic baby talk (droid literally says ooooobahhhhh like some dyslexic half wit) and Padme died of a broken heart so maybe it's not that far fetched. Man ROTS is a mess! That aside, Vader would have no reason to go looking for Luke. Thus it makes logical sense to hide Luke on Tatooinne which was a nothing planet. Plus Anakin hates sand. 'Nuff said. A whole planet of that stuff? No thanks bro!

I would find it problematic to have Obi-Wan go into hiding to protect the knowledge of Luke's existence from Vader and the Emperor, only to go on covert missions off world. It could very well undermine the nobility of Obi-Wan as a character because he swore an oath to protect the child of his greatest failure. Luke is literally the personification of Obi's redemption.

Not only does this act speak to Obi-Wan's humility to give up his life to watch over the child, but because he was willing to live on a desolate world to do it. He could have easily found some resort planet and lived in luxury but he chose not to.

Going off world on a myriad of adventures not only risks Luke's safety but it also undermines Luke's importance being A New Hope. I guess you could argue that their location could be compromised and Obi-Wan has to leave sometimes to protect its secrecy, but it seems unlikely and would beg the question why he couldn't just grab Luke and run for it if their location was compromised.

Also taking into account that the Jedi and Obi-Wan especially are fugitives of the Empire and have few allies left so showing up to save the day off world means unnecessarily putting a target on his back and by extension Luke, thus possibly defeating the entire purpose of going into hiding in the first place. The whole point is staying under the radar and leaving only risks calling attention to yourself. As if Obi-Wan needs any more reason to be humbled.

I know the likelihood of my next suggestion is too cerebral (at least for the masses) and I'm putting in in Spolier tags to avoid the risk of getting swarmed by the apologist. Granted this idea would take a very skilled writer to pull off so the chances of it happening is almost zero but.....

You could do what The Last Jedi tried and failed to do with Luke, which is a smaller scale character study delving into Obi-Wan dealing with his failures, trying to come to terms with the mistakes he made and furthering his understanding of the Force and how he can fix everything and occasionally going on local adventures on Tatooinne. This would deepen the character and give us insight into the Force, coming to terms with guilt, wrestling with faith and doubt, learning about responsibility and humility. It would be a phenomenal acting opportunity for Ewan who is more than talented enough to give it real emotional weight. But I doubt there are any writers willing to take the risk, or even talented enough to attempt it. It will likely just be more of the same and a chance to have scenes with lightsabers and insane Force abilities.

This really needs to be a limited series too. The only way this show works in any capacity is if they show some restraint. I was fooled once with the first season of The Mandalorian, but we all know how it turned into The Gondolorian, so I have every expectation we will be given more of the same.

As i've said before, it's extremely possible that he has to go offworld in order to keep that secret in place. You're not protecting Luke very well if you know someone got off world with knowledge of him.

Unless the Empire or some other person(s) of interest has knowledge of Luke's existence (aka spying on the Lars Homestead) then Obi-Wan has no reason to leave. In other words the secret of Padme having children would have to be known to more than just Bail Organa, Obi-Wan, and Yoda. Threepio had his mind wiped, and R2 doesn't speak human language. The only other beings who know would be the Polis Masa aliens and that creepy spatula droid. I don't forsee it being reprogrammed into an assassin droid. Though the thought of seeing old spatula fingers trying to kill Luke does make me laugh.....

"I brought you into this world. I can take you out of it just the same! OOOOOBAHHHHHH!!!!! DIEEEEE!"

Padme's baby bump was shown during the funeral too. Lucas purposely focused the camera on her casket to show it. So as far as the galaxy knows Padme Amidala died with her unborn child and there were hundreds of witnesses to watch her (and the baby) go to her grave. Now it's certainly possible that someone could discover the truth, but it does bring up the potential problems I raised. So it would have to be handled very carefully in order for me to buy it. The people who write these stories often have zero sense of delicacy and nuance and often go for flash over substance. It can certainly be done but to be done well is a different matter.

I would be happy to be proven wrong. Then again I've been a fan long enough to know it's best to temper my expectations. I question why they can't just tell new stories with new characters and new stakes. For a franchise that prides itself on being so vast, it's really pathetic that they can never bring the scope of it outside of known characters and scenarios. Rich Evans is spot on. Star Wars is creatively bankrupt.

I've thought in the past, if something either happened to Luke, like maybe kidnapped by Sand People (there's a history of the Lars homestead being attacked & folks being kidnapped... It's not rehashing, it's rhyming;)), or just something that caused Obi Wan to reveal himself, then that would require him to chase that individual down. They wouldn't necessarily require the secret of Luke to be known, just that there's a surviving Jedi hiding out on Tattooine. If that gets to the Inquisitors, who report to Vader, then that'll being undue attention to the planet that could end up revealing Luke.

That would allow Vader to appear in a overarching role, sending out Inquisitors, disciplining them for failure, & basically just being in his prime.

Here's the main thing I'm hoping for...a good story, with good characters, that DOES NOT feel it has to completely change the lore of any particular character. Just let it be a part of their life that's an entertaining tale. I don't need to know when Obi Wan's Jedi belt broke, & how he had to refashion his Clone armor pauldron into a new buckle, after making the belt from his pet baby Dewback that he's been raising since getting here, but it got killed in the crossfire of a battle while saving Kenobi's life.

Here's a pic of the set (U.K.) that the production built in a disused carry. The set will remain there for, at least, 3 years according to the Dailymail.
