Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi (tv series)

That would work and is a MUCH better idea than anything having to do with saving/protecting Luke or the "Tatooine citizen of the week in need of saving" which seemed likely the only direction it could go in. It would also explain narrowing down the run to 4-6 episodes for the entire series verses a classic multiple series show.

Now if only McGregor would walk back his idiot comments and take his foot out of his mouth and head out of his ass for his "Birds of Prey" comments, I might get interested in this if it ever goes anywhere further in production.

I may regret asking this.... but which comments are you talking about?

I hope its a close personal drama, Obi went through sooo much since they found Anakin. How much exactly does Luke know about him anyway? From ANH, it seems Luke knows his name and face, but not very much else. Including Luke in more than half the series would screw up the continuity. Obi aged super fast somehow, most likely guilt and stress. Imagine promising your dying master to train a boy against the Jedi Council's guidance and causing the entire galaxy to go down the drain because of that one promise. Not to mention all the other wackiness that Anakin put him through. Add to it that The Empire is occupying everything and he has to keep low at all times, oh man I hope its a great sad drama!

Iiirc, he had said something in defense of Birds of Prey by saying something to the effect that it failed to do well because misogynist men didn't go to see it.
I mean, they probably didn't... but regular men (and women) didn't either.
And since we know that the users who reviewed it on RT are overwhelmingly male (and you have to have actually seen the movie to review it now) it was DEFINITELY men (primarily) going to see it

He was asked by a reporter if his character was gay. He didn't respond with a resounding "YES!" so he's being called homophobic.

In the transcript I saw, it was a costar that was beating around the bush without actually answering, & McGregor spoke up & basically said, "sure".

“What interested me with Birds of Prey is that it’s a feminist film. It is very finely written, it is in the script a true look on the misogyny. And I think we (the men) need that, we need to be more aware of how we behave with the opposite sex. We need to be taught to change. The misogynists in the movies are often extreme: they are raping, they beat women… And it’s legitimate to represent people like that, because they exist and they are obviously the worst. But in the dialogues of Birds of Prey, there is always an allusion to everyday misogyny, to those things that we say as a man we do not even realize, to mansplaining… All this is in the script in a very subtle way. I found that brilliant.”

The issue I take are the bolded lines above from his quoted interview. This hyper sensitive culture just can’t say, treat everyone with respect. It has to tear men down. I’m done being attacked by every hypocrite from Hollywood and people in general just for being a man. You want my respect but attack and attempt to talk down to me? No thanks.

The best part is after they attack us then we get blamed for their film’s poor performance for not attending, yet over 50% of those who attended the film were still men.

Too bad too because from most accounts it isn’t a bad film and even though I’m not a big fan of HQ, I liked McGregor(before this) and probably would’ve seen this if the media nonsensical attacks ala GB2016 didn’t continue to happen the attacks on Sonic before it’s release to try to prop this film up.

Oh, FFS. Everything he said is accurate. Just because you don't do it, or think you don't, doesn't mean he's wrong, or that it's about hypersensitivity. It is a too-well-established fact that women in the US of A have to deal with a thousand microaggressions a day that are solely due to their being women. If you don't see that, or if you do but think it doesn't need to be addressed just because you don't [think you] do it... Well, then, I can't help you. I see it all the time, and do my best to not add to it.

I mean, what McGregor said is totally inconsequential compared with how many actors/other celebrities act in their personal and public lives. If I had to personally agree with every stance made by an actor in order to enjoy watching them, I’d be left with a very short list and nothing to watch. Of course we shouldn’t support someone like Kevin Spacey or Bill Cosby, but when it’s something like this? A comment he made about misogyny? It might be disappointing that he’s defending a mediocre film that uses its message to alienate the audience that just wants to be entertained, but he’s still a good actor.

Edit: I also worry that arguing about this topic might result in the thread getting locked

The use of the term “micro aggression” is proof enough they are hyper sensitive and need to grow thick skin. Maybe spend some time in some parts of the world where they can see just how fickle their “problems” really are.

As for the main issue, while there are issues between gender and races still, it doesn’t get better at the expense of another, which is my main argument and problem with it.

First you felt "attacked", now other people should grow a thicker skin?
Maybe everyone should take a look at what they choose to be offended by, most of it is pretty superficial. ;)

Not to derail this further, but I'm betting people didn't go see Birds of Prey because (1) the Harley character is nowhere near as universally known as most of the other characters whom they've filmed, (2) they had like ZERO marketing for it (seriously, I haven't seen a thing until after it was released), and (3) DC's brand overall right now is garbage.

DC cannot figure out what the hell they want to do with their films so everything that comes out is just this mishmash of stuff. Is The Batman a reboot of Ben Affleck's Batman and we won't see him again? Does that mean the whole Justice League thing is done now? Is Aquaman 2 still happening? Will Henry Cavill continue to play Superman? What's the deal with Jared Leto vs. Joaquin Phoenix? How do their characters relate, or do they relate at all, and if they don't, where does Harley fit into all of this?

DC's release strategy has been this scattershot effort that suffers from a totally muddled message, coupled with what have mostly been "meh"-at-best films. (I enjoyed Aquaman, though.) Given that each subsequent film has been met with lukewarm audience reception (again, except for Aquaman which I gather did ok), is it any surprise that yet-another-DC-film tanked? People assume it'll just be the same grimdark crap they've been putting out for a while now. They have no clear vision, and folks are both used to that and expect it after Marvel's approach to comic book films.

They do have a clear vision, it's just dumb. As voiced by their head after Avengers hit 1B...'we have to cash in on this while we can', or something to that effect. Hence...the result.

See, I liked most of their recent stuff. I really liked Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Shazam. I really thought this film looked like fun, and would like to see it in theaters, but I probably won't be able to due to financial reasons. The only film out of the Post-Justice-League crop I've had absolutely zero interest in is Joker. I feel like they could be on the right track, moving to more stand-alone or loosely affiliated films, but they've burned a LOT of good will with the Murderverse.

BUT... since this is the Kenobi thread and not the BoP thread, I'm still looking forward to this show. I think Favreau and Filoni set a good tone to start out with in the Mandalorian, and focusing on some smaller-scale stories in the SW universe will be hugely beneficial to the franchise.

Always take what these people who pretend for a living say with a grain of salt. Without going in to the sordid details, this speech maker is in no position to preach to anyone after what happened with his marriage. The sooner studios, investors, actors and employees pull the their collective heads outta their collective butts and remember they are in the entertainment industry the sooner they will stop going broke.

Well, it's official: shooting begins in March 2021. Disney and Kathleen Kennedy weren't happy with the first writer (Hossein Amini) and replaced him with Joby Harold in April of 2020...then Crap-19 happened:devil: . Deborah Chow, who directed parts of "The Mandalorian" will direct the series.
