Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi (tv series)

It's certainly possible that the two have crossed paths between trilogies and they will in this show. I just feel it undermines their final encounter.

And that he doesn't have a hear quite like other Pau'ans we have seen. Not surprisingly there some variety within the species. I still think he looks off in the show, but I'm hoping he'll grow on me.

Too late for that. That was all of Filoni's Clone Wars and everything he's done since and continues to do and will only continue with the next person to come and replace him. Not only do they need to meet up with everyone multiple times but need double of everything; lightsabers, blasters, twins, friends, enemies...It didn't just undermine ideas but cheapened them for both the PT and OT.

Nothing can stop it now.

That's the rub though, isn't it? Quality story telling actually helps the brand financially because it guarantees repeat customers. There is no reason whatsoever for the scripts to be bad because they have the resources to hire talented writers who understand the material. In fact you'd think the opposite would be true given Disney's coffers and that each new story would be an instant hit because they hired the best of the best. I've long been a proponent that they venture elsewhere with the story and leave the legacy characters behind if they want to remain solvent as a business. It's not just a fan wish to have them leave the legacy material with a shred of its dignity, what I'm suggesting actually helps the brand and in turn keeps the business alive.

There's only so much they can mine from those characters before sales drop off. I understand brand recognition and owning the rights to a known character is a tempting yet easy choice, but look at the way Mandalorian and Grogu are not only beloved by audiences, but move product and increase viewership. If only they had the stones to trust in their original creations. Until they start branching out to tell new stories with their own original characters, in settings and storylines outside the saga films, technically speaking they aren't adding to the lore, they're just playing with someone else's.

I hope this Obi-Wan limited series delivers for fans. Honestly though the more I think about it there really are only a limited number of stories to be told with some of these characters. This show has to be a limited series because it's really the only era left uncovered for him. The saga films cover the course of his life so it's not like they could make another series or movie starring him. Same with Han. Vader too and the droids. Chewie.

Ultimately they need to stop telling new stories with old characters and start telling new stories with new characters.
While you make a good point, esp. about the new stories with new characters, I'd argue that just because some here find the writing on these shows to be bad doesn't mean that the majority of viewers are not enjoying these shows thoroughly or find any problems with the writing. You have to remember that the people here and on other similar platforms make up a minority of the viewing populace and most viewers aren't that critical and/or that deeply immersed in the lore.

Even before Filoni Star Wars was full of 7 degrees of separation with every character and some of that even came from Lucas himself. But I agree that there's way too much of that going in Star Wars, not everybody has to connect in some way with an OT or PT character, it just makes the Star Wars universe feel small.

Of course it isn't.

Is pizza necessary? Of course not.

Cheeseburgers? Nobody needs that!

Delicious pasta? No.

Profits?......ye$$$!!!!!!

I know that this is a joke but for a corporation, or any business that's not a non-profit, profits are very necessary. Al businesses, once again excepting non-profits, are in it for the profits to one degree or another. Even non-profits need to make a certain minimum amount of money in order to keep their doors open and pay their employees, it's just that they don't need any money beyond that.

I like ruining your evening so after watching the trailer here are my predictions for the show:

1. Obi-Wan will survive.
2. Yoda lives.
3. Luke will survive.
4. Darth Vader lives.
5. The value of the Kenner T-16 toy will jump up.

And maybe
6. Luke builds a pod racer and crashes it into a wall. Yaknow, because of, "There is so much of his father in him."

Well it seems Obi Wan uses a blaster lol.

I dont mind a lightsaber battle between Obi Wan and Anakin if it was Obi Wan recounting the fight to someone. An Obi Wan vs Vader could make sense if maybe Obi Wan is hidden, sees a glimpse of Vader, and they fight in their minds eye (a sequence that was pretty cool in the Chinese movie Hero).

I dont want to see Obi Wan confront Vader directly through since that messes with OT and is just for fan service points. Obi Wan against inquisitors does make sense (and the struggle between needing to hide vs helping others as his duty as a jedi is interesting but could get old) but too much action undermines the fact that Obi Wan is laying low imo.

Officer 1: Hey, you heard about that one guy who has been fighting off several inquisitors by himself and has been shooting up cities?
Officer 2: yeah
Officer 1: Might be a jedi? Should we report to Vader?
Officer 2: No way, The force doesnt exist. Probably some rando destroying our Inquisitors. Nothing to report.

HeartBlade

I was originally gonna have this in my previous post but I thought it might add more fuel to the flame, but this is why I hate the idea of the Inquisitors too. Nevermind that they're force-users and wield lightsabers, but if there is an inquisition to be had, it should be from the Imperials and it would make the Empire all the more fearsome. The clones/stormtroopers are more than enough to kill Jedi and it makes it all the more important for Ben to keep out of sight if they are the main power of the universe. The issues of having so many adepts suddenly show up all of a sudden makes Jedi look even worse! They're either easily corruptible at worst or apathetic cowards at best!

It's such a pity that a great opportunity to tell really interesting stories--human stories--within Star Wars isn't being met. People are craving to see it and Mandalorian was proof that we don't need to see Jedi and force-mysticism all the time. There are others in this universe, it would be great to see more stories that showed how other characters coped with the rise and fall of the Empire. That is the same heart that beats in all Westerns: trying and desperate times that call for ordinary people to become extraordinary. Star Wars draws from that well.

But again, it's all too late for that now.

I didn't like Solo's story, writing, and cinematography...but it was fun and there were aspects to it I thought were genuinely good. There were nuggets in both Rogue One and Solo I thought, had they just focused on them, it would've changed the game for the better.

For some reason I didn't think that was Kenobi on the rooftop.

I do like that we’re at the point with StarWars that we’re relying on a comic artists knowledge/respect of the lore. I like that almost as much as the “its hard to go from animation to Live-action” excuse
Maybe the artist is just lazy and much better at drawing regular human head shapes on the fly to make a quick buck. Because, again, Disney StarWars is Lazy

Oh I know what they can do!
They can have a scene with Vader being displeased with him and squishing his head down to be more round using the force as a punishment :p

Grand Inquisitor - “My Lord.. We have found no trace of Obi-wan Kenobi’s whereabouts.. He can pose no threat to us howev…

Vader - “You failed to me!
*Force grips and squishes GI’s head*

Grand Inquisitor- *screams in pain* No!! Not the mark of my people!! Please!!

Vader- “Don’t fail me again… Onion head”
