Star Wars HD Discoveries

Now that we have the Star Wars trilogy available in HD, what discoveries/interesting finds have you made?

Below are some things I've noticed from ANH, I'll post more on TESB and ROTJ later. Enjoy :D

Hengstler counter in the X-wing cockpit

Some unidentified calaculator, similar to the exactra?

Lonepigeon's infamous catamaran

And this damn peice that keeps showing up everywhere but I have absolutely no idea what it is

The unidentified piece looks like half of some sort of hydrolic or pnumatic pump with two pieces of steel added that look like the little handle things

I'll try to get some screencaps up this week, but the "hero" that only exists for the one closeup in ROTJ? Also the 'stunt' saber luke uses on the jabba's barge scenes. It was prior to them redoing the control box, but it's the hero saber. I actually like it without all the extra gunk on the control box - just the phillips screw down the center holding it on and a metal bar for the control lever.

It made me happy to know it had scenes in the movie besides just the one. It gets at least as much screen time as the silver-barred version of the Vader ANH.

Great thread. I have been waiting for a thread like this forever (the HD troopers is another good one).

Slightly off topic, but just slightly: what hardware are you guys running your HD onto?
As to say, PCs, Macs, Hometheaters, ... ?

Looking into getting one.

Sorry for the OT ;)

I have a Mac G5 but I seriously need to upgrade my graphics card...and it's taken two weeks to download ANH using my cable modem :(. I use MPlayerOSX for the weird file type...

I've just started analyzing HD footage and I still want to know the source of those darn Vader tusks. :D

Could they be transistors similar to the ones used on the OWK saber? They have a similar shape, though seem larger in size.

Are the very ends of Vaders' tusk's ribbed? They look like the screw caps inside an old style electical plug that holds the wires to the pins. They look like they are probably too big to fit into a domestic plug but might be industrial?

Just an observation :)

Ok here are a few things in TESB:

Bubble wrap on the seat belts in the snowspeeder cockpit???
esbbubblehy7.jpg

These look like the piston halves that show up on alot of TESB blasters
esbpistonud1.jpg

Casette player in the X-wing, who is going to ID this thing lol
esbtapevl3.jpg

Where did the bayonet lug go on this sterling?
esbe11lm4.jpg

Miscellaneous stuff, something has to look familiar
esbstuffxl4.jpg

Ice cream maker, can anyone get a positive ID now?
esbicecreamlv1.jpg

Stay tuned for some really neat ROTJ discoveries.

Can someone please post a HD pic of Vader in ROTJ when he is walking up the staircase with his cape flipped up on his left shoulder during the fight with Luke. Wait until he is close to the top when you take it so he is larger in the frame.

Artoo's arm looks like a bunch of faucet, or spray nozzel connectors all screwed together. And that item laying corsswise below the arm looks like a the grip of a sprayer head.

can someone do a screen grab of one of the x-wing pilots of before it shuts, supposedly in the last issue of the insider theres a black graflex somewhere on there. I cant do screengrabs is why I'm asking.

That's a Y-Wing, isn't it? ;)

Do you mean the E-11 cylinders?

That's a MGC; they don't have one.

I think those clear parts are Visible V8 pieces. I think just about any clear plastic thingie in ESB is from that kit. ;)

Note the aluminum cones (TIE pilot ears, X-Wing chestboxes, etc) inside the clear pieces.

Can I ask what the source is for these HD transmissions, and are they full HD ie. 1080p?

Thanks

The whole droid socket thingy, looks like its made from the inside of some plastic electronic decive of some kind. If you look at it, you can see its made from that old yellow gray retro plastic and that its filled with screw posts and interlocking bits and has vents in the sides. It seems like they used both halves too; one for R2's terminal, and one for the bottom peice that goes offscreen.

The source is german satellite broadcast. I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure it's 1080P. Most are the AVC/H.264 codec, and all of them take some pretty serious hardware to play.

RE vader Tusks

I think your refering to the old fashioned 3 pin round headed plugs you dont find many of these around now well not in the UK anyway, the UK i would assume is where these Tusks would have been made.

the wires used to wrap around the inner lug and the lugnut secured the wire i think that could well be a positive ID my friend. :thumbsup

Are you guys refering to these as they are still widely available?

BS546 Pin Plugs

The South African version would be the closest equivalent of the UK style. Apparently this style of plug (BS546) is commonly used in lighting applications not that I've ever personally seen one.
