Apparently these photos were taken by Charlie Ley and Geoff Wilkinson at the Science Museum, on 19 and 30 December 1977. Famously R2's head is on backwards.

This exhibition would have been planned around the UK launch of the film, since Britons didn't get to see it until the end of December, even though it had been largely filmed in the UK.

The no weathering on the land speeder is strange.. I thought only 2 were built.. the “3 wheeler” and the “floater”

Maybe this was a replica land speeder, built for the exhibit. I say that because it seems like they wouldn't let the public climb inside for photos if it was the real prop.
Very true… I think this is a new one we’ve never seen before

Here's a pic of myself in '77 at the SW Expo in Brussels, Belgium. As I explained before, the expo was small compared to the U.K. one.
The list:
One YWing
One XWing
C3PO
R2D2 (with his head in the proper position;))
McQuarrie's painting all around the small room
One Don Post's Stormtrooper
One Don Post's C3PO
A dozen, or so, lobby cards in the corridor leading to the main room.

joberg ... such a handsome golden boy ;)

On facebook it was also revealed that it was young Steven Porter who was asked by the photographer to sit in the landspeeder ... still it does seem to be a replica prop vehicle to my eye.

Incredible photo! I love photos like this! How old were you on the photo? Did you see the movie before taking this photo?

Yep, saw the movie 30 times in 5 days!! In those days, in Belgium, you could sit for all of the slots a theatre would have on its schedule.
I would start in late afternoon and leave the theatre in the evening (I wasn't working at the time being between contracts).
I was 19 years old in that pic;)

Incredible story and photo, I seriously love old photos like this

And when the photos come with a story makes it even better

I'm wondering if this was a production used Speeder from the deleted scenes using rear projection with C3PO and Luke:

Except for the weird windscreen, It's AWFULLY DETAILED for a replica speeder even down to the greeblies (and this was December 1977 in London, so why would they make a replica?), and so would have to have been done by whoever built the original for the film.

BUT... we know that the original 3 wheel still exisits, and was repainted green for its cameo in TPM (and then "de-painted" back to its original color scheme). Here it is AFTER TPM I beleive, when it was returned to its former glory...
