Limited Run Star Wars Ep VII Force Awakens TIE Pilot Helmets, Chest Boxes, and Armor

Appreciate the updates Shawn...

Long overdue though they may be...

Belt boxes are in primer:

Chest and back armor is in the fine-sanding stage:

Still churning away on the gauntlet stack too:

So that's the latest on the finished sets.

If anyone else wants in on this run, please post here and I'll PM you with the details.

MOAR PICTURES!!!

After a solid week and a half of nothing but sanding and filling, I primed all the parts. Then did more filling and sanding:

Once I thought I'd filled all of the tiny little pinholes, it was time to get to painting:

Here's the stack of shoulder armor somewhere in the middle of the process:

The gloss black revealed a few stray, tiny pinholes on some of the fiberglass parts:

This is the worst piece:

These pieces are all very difficult to photograph:

Here's all of the painted chest boxes:

The resin pieces took the gloss much better (no pinholes):

So now I'm just waiting for the paint to harden a bit more (it's cold here) and then I can touch up the pinholes, wet sand everything, and shoot another coat of gloss black. I'm using an automotive, single-stage urethane black, so it doesn't require a clearcoat. I may add one anyway since more shiny can't be a bad thing. It'll depend on how I like the surface once the second coat cures.

In any case, if you're currently waiting for finished parts, they're very nearly ready to go.

If anyone else is looking to get in on this run, please post here and I'll PM you with details.

Despite the fact that the paint wasn't perfect, I decided to try and pull together a set of armor for the Rogue One premier on Thursday. It went okay:

Then I got a call from a friend asking me to get a set together for him, so I stopped working on mine and strapped another set together:

I ran out of time before I had a chance to assemble the belts and forearms, but they were looking pretty good at this point:

Sadly, it means that the day was wasted and I still have to disassemble both sets so I can wet sand all of the imperfections out of the paint job and recoat them.

Here's another one of the chests after wet sanding with a dab of spot putty over every one of the pinholes I could see:

And one of the backs in the same state:

Since then, I've sanded them both down to 600 grit. The spot putty has been reduced to just enough to fill the pinholes themselves, so it's barely noticeable on the now dull surface.

Tomorrow I'll be shooting another coat of black and they should be good to go.

Stay tuned.

Apologies for the lack of updates. It's been a while, so I'll summarize progress: Cold weather slows paint cure times, rain messing everything else up, wet sanding takes forever, and holiday travel got in the way there somewhere too.

But now I have a second coat of paint on everything and it's gorgeous:

Once all of the paint hardens, I'll be buffing out a few minor flaws and it'll be time to pick out the details, add straps and decals, and start packing things to ship out.

If anybody else wants a kit, please post here and I'll PM you with details.

I've got the molds down off of the shelf again. If anyone else would like to get in on this run, now would be a good time to let me know.

Post here and I'll PM you with the details.

Just got my finished kit from Shawn today!

I couldn't be happier with the quality of his work, it was well worth the money and time waiting!

So if you are looking to get one, don't wait and do yourself a favor and order sooner than later!

Thanks again Shawn!

Hey there, I sent a PM about this, but I am wondering when this run will end. I am very interested in a helmet and possibly armor, but I'm not quite ready to pull the trigger.

Just FYI thorssoli, your chest armor needs a bit of modding in order to work for 501st standards now. The sides of the chest plate should have 2 squares notched in them. Not sure if your latest models have that. I have one of the earlier pulls.

I will be dremmeling mine to have those squares.

Using Jimmiraquois image, but it shows the squares.

Yeah. If I ever wear out the chest mold, I'll add those. In the meantime, it's a quick fix with a Dremel or a file to score the lines in.

I'm about to set these molds back in storage while I focus on other projects. I'm going to be finishing a couple more sets though, so if you've been thinking about getting in on this run, you are running out of time.

If you'd like to get TIE parts or a finished set, post here and I'll PM you with details.

Just chiming in about those rectangles on the sides of the chest armour, from looking at my hot toys Tie Pilot they're actually just outlines grooves of open-ended rectangles and not full notches (In case anyone is thinking of modding theirs for 501st).

Yeah. Like I said, it's just a few minutes with a file or a Dremel tool to add them in. They're just lines scored into the surface. For those of you who have opted for finished armor, I'm now including them as part of the finishing service.

So again, if you'd like to get TIE parts or a finished set, post here and I'll PM you with details.

Had my final approval last week ! Your kit is amassing ! My friend got approuved also last week with a KB props kit and we compared our armor ! Thanks god I bought yours !!!
