Star Wars Credits and Coinage - References and Recreation

I have been looking at new republic coins available.

Previously, these were available.
Here is a review that compares them to the ones at Galaxy’s Edge.

Now there appears to be some new offering. These capture some of the missing details that are found on the Galaxy’s Edge version minus the LFL logo.

These all appear to be the same coins from various sellers…

The downside to the new Etsy coins is that if you buy the two coins, it will cost you more than if you bought the full set of four at Galaxy’s Edge (Which I do have).

That’s was my review. Those coins are great. I highly recommend them.

I got two sets of those coins at GE. Sure, they’re $30 a set, if you get them there. On eBay they’re twice that.

I get another 20% off for being a passholder.

I think the teardrop shape of the GE would look better with some aging but I think they did that on purpose to make it look different than the other silver coin in the set. Easy fix with some aluminum black and steel wool.

I think the newer coins on Etsy look good with the details but based on the provided size info, they each come in about 4-5mm larger than the GE credits.

So, what I’m hearing is, you’ll pick up a few sets for me? :)

Here are my credits and a tracking fob from the same seller on Etsy. They really are superb. I have my last set of credits from another seller coming tomorrow and I’ll try to take the complete credit pics this weekend.

This is the next step in my quest to replicate all the credits and coins in the Solo movie (no chak-root or skins! ) .
I'm releasing my version of the center hole coins seen in the Sabacc card game where Han Solo won the Millennium Falcon from Lando Calrissian (see photo).

The coins are double sided and have embedded steel weights to give them some heft, increasing the realism without making them too heavy.

These are slightly larger and heavier than other coins I've made in accordance with their appearance in the movie.

The last photo is a screen grab from the movie.

It's hard to make out the writing on the edge of the credits by the guns. I see some letters that don't look like Aurebesh, but they are very weathered so I'm not sure.
Personally, I'll be very happy if we get some coins that aren't using Aurebesh. Earth has dozens of different writing systems, why would the Star Wars galaxy only have one? Or rather, why would that one be so dominant 99% of everything is written in it? Having some official coins with a differnt script on them would be a nice bit of variety.

The huts have their own currency. But I think Aurebesh is the Galactic version of Esperanto.

Didn't they use coins from the Ottoman Empire in Ep1?

They did; it's only in the 21st century when every prop it seems is custom made that Aurebesh has been on everything.

It's more the SW equivalent of the Latin Alphabet - which is used by a lot of languages (with minor variations) and thus by much of the world; and the dominance of first French and now English as international diplomatic and trade languages means that most major languages can be more-or-less transliterated into the Latin alphabet. That that doesn't change the fact that there are a lot of languages, and thus countries, and thus currencies and objects, that have markings in non-latin characters.

Granted, in Star Wars that runs into "who makes the money?" And during the reign of the Empire, the answer might well be "The Empire, and only the Empire, can make money," which would mean that it would all be labeled in Galactic Basic using Aurebesh. But there are plenty of historical examples where the components of an empire continued to produce their own individual currencies, and so I feel it's okay to wish for some props with something more interesting on them than just more Aurebesh. :)

We’ll thought out and stated. Thank you for that.

There are two types of coinage I’d like to call attention to:

First are the long, bar shaped credits from The Mandalorian first seen in the first episode, Disney recently made replicas of these for Galaxy’s Edge. I initially thought these were the credits originally created for Solo but upon a closer look they are two separate but similar sets of credit designs.

Second is the larger design that first appeared in Rebels I believe and later more prominently in Resistance, it was inspired by a credit design made for the prequels but never seen clearly. This design was available as the Imperial Credit Chip in Galaxy’s Edge but has long since been retired sadly.

On screen it appears to be about Credit Card sized, but most replicas I’ve seen make it far smaller. The Galaxy’s edge version was closest I think.

The second credit shows up in Andor when Luthan is trying to buy the Imperial Starpath Unit.

Thanks for the spot!, Cool to see them properly in live action, I think they’re also seen in the Aldhani heist in the massive vault racks, they also seem to have created a new silver version.

They look brand new props made for the show.

If you watch that scene carefully, you see that the credits are being held in some type of holder so Luthan can fan them out quickly which is more dramatic. Also some of his credits are white which is a new color. The ones we've seen before are only yellow/gold (see photo 3).

The credits in the massive vault racks in the Aldahnai heist are the Imperial Credits we've seen before in Solo. You can get a good look at them in Andor in the scene where he's in the hotel room with his stash up high in the bathroom (Photo 1). Those are being sold in the parks now (Photo 2). I'm making both types of credits. I modified the credits seen in Rebels (photo 3). I added a denomination and made different colors (copper, silver, and gold) so they're more useful in playing Sabacc (photo 4). Photo 5 is my version of Imperial Credits. The ones ithe parks come in 4 colors: copper, silver, gold, and bronze so I make them in all those colors.

I'm also making the first credits you listed. I call them "Cara Dune Fight Credits" since she won them in a bar fight.
