Star Wars BLU-RAYS in the works!

There is ZERO percent chance this or any future release will include the originals.

Even after he dies, Lucas has made sure of it.

The DVDs you have is it. Live with it.

My bootlegs are terrific. Not at all "zapruder-quality".

Man some people are so stubborn they'd rather watch the Originals on a PSP instead of a Crystal Clear Blu-Ray on a giant-screen TV.

I embrace changes as long as they are decent.

Steve Sansweet said about the same thing at Jedi-Con two weeks ago. I think that he is as vague as he can be. All we really know is that a six-box set is bound to come out eventually.

We still haven't heard anything about the image quality or if there are going to be any new changes. Will the colors be corrected to normality, or are images still blue and fuzzy?

I agree. Oct '11 is hardly in the "near future", but it beats '12. Bring it, bring it, bring it NOW!

And just to chime in obnoxiously, I enjoyed the SEs minus the whole "Greedo shoots first" thing. I didn't hate it, I just thought the effect was silly looking. It didn't cause me any heartburn and I hardly felt that it changed the dynamic of Han's character in anyway. And for the record, I've been a die-hard fan since the 1977. Saw them all in the theaters opening weekend.

I want these movies in Blu Ray ASAP!

yeah I can buy the first ( original and best by far) and give the other three to anyone else. I guess it's a pipe dream to want the holiday special, Ewoks.droids cartoons on there too.

I wouldn't call Oct 2011 "soon". And unless it includes original versions, sorry, not gettin' my money.

Remember when Lucas said the movies wouldn't be on DVD because he wanted to wait until Blu-Ray? can you imagine going like, what, a decade without SW on DVD? What an idiot.

Looking forward to seeing what Special Edition changes they make. :rolleyes Hopefully, they'll make the OT exactly how it was in 1996 and they'll gut about 30 minutes of boring crap from TPM and AOTC, respectively. At the VERY least, I'd like theatrical editions of those films, but man, a thorough pruning would go a long way (no pun intended).

And as far as the SE/OT debate, obviously they'll be the SEs. However, perhaps we'll luck out and he'll fix some crap. Like how he removed Luke's scream in ESB? Maybe he'll remove Han shot first. I can live with the SEs in many respects, but the one or two "ouch" details are enough to sour it. It's like you have a really good French Onion Soup but someone dropped a cat turd in it. You SE defenders are like "You'll give up this GREAT soup because of ONE little cat turd?" Think about it. Maybe if Lucas removed even SOME of the cat turd, I'd bite.

I know Lucas was hot on this whole 3D nonsense and was looking into scanning Star Wars into 3D. I wonder if that's what's taking all this time. Because the original trilogy hasn't been bastardized enough.........

so you don't embrace the SE's then?

bad, bad, bad very bad color correction, some horrible additions or changes

"jawa comedy in mos eisley"
"stormtroopers in the dead end corridor"
"han shooting first"
"rubbish CGI jabba, in fact, horrible and dramatically unnecessary exposition scene."

and those are the headlines.

I know i'm delusional, but i'm still hoping we get some surface shots of alderaan in Star Wars.....makes it more meaningful to see the surface and civilization and people before it blows up.

And for god's sake, please fix the damn sabers. The saber artists can knock that out in all 3 originals in a week, max i'd guess.

I wondered that, too. Are they doing them for 3D? Hence the length til release?

Then again, the new samsungs can convert to 3D on the fly. I don't know how good that is, though. If 3D is why you need 3.5 years to make the set, that 3D change better be stellar ....

There was a time when any news about Star Wars would get me excited. That time has long passed as it became clear that the guy has lost his touch and is just milking an old turd.

I believe Lucas bet his money on a pay-as-you-view DVD system that never sold (wonder why ...) He then told people they would never be available on DVD, prompting everybody to buy the VHS, And only a few weeks later he did a 180°, announcing the DVD's ...

I did buy the VHS ... waited ages to buy the DVD's.

Knowing Lucas he plans on gouging us for the BD and then pull out all tabs for the 3D version and gouge us again.

its going to be the SE set on bluray no doubt about it

but he should.... a year or 2 later release the original trilogy on bluray, double dip us again make tons more bank.....and everyone could be happy

and then release the 3D versions...

then again with the new digital version

then again with another SE when ewan mcgregor is older digitally superimposed over all of alec guiness's scenes

and again

and again

Just because they offer doesn't mean you have to buy it.

Vote with your wallet. Organize a boycott on the Blu-Ray release.

Oh, you're too lazy for that? I guess you get the SEs then.

Enjoy.

You think a boycott would do any good? Dude has more money than he grandkids can probably ever spend. I think it's gone to an ego/stubborness zone. The more people demand an restored/5.1 non-SE OT, the more steadfast he'll become against it.

I'm also not convinced an un-altered OT would be a huge seller either. I could be wrong - but my guess is the vast majority of consumers don't care that much.

Great analogy! As I always say, I don't fault those that like the PT or SEs but they just ain't for me. Your analogy holds true for my perspective on it. I know the chance of me ever seeing a bluray of Star Wars sans SE is zip. Sad considering it's one of the best films of my generation.

Given the dates, they could be planning to do a limited 3D release in theaters next year followed by a 3D BR, I could see that happening.

I am also in the group that would love the OT on blue as I saw it originally onscreen with all of its issues in 1080p or better but thats not likely to happen....either way I will upgrade to BR.

They've actually said they were looking to do that in the past (3D).

I can see it now, come enjoy it again - now in 3D with ALL NEW FOOTAGE** :)

**All new footage means at least 5 seconds of new footage per film.

See, for me, there is no real version of the films that I love.

I like the original versions, but I wish the effects were cleaned up. And Han shot. He didn't shoot first, he was the only one shooting.

There are parts of the SE's that I reall like:
* outside shot of Bens house
* sandcrawler going over the ridge (and that was actually the original model and not CG)
* the dead-end becoming a hanger full of troopers (the dead-end never made sense to me, even as a kid)
* I like the explosions of Alderran and the Death Star much better.

I actually really like the added Jabba scene in ANH, but I hated the first CG Jabba. I like it much better with the EP1 Jabba. I remember as a kid wondering why Han was so scared of Jabba, not really being able to imagine who or why he could be so scared. It seemed very passe to me in ESB when they kept talking about paying off Jabba because all he did was send a stupid assassian who was taken out like a punk. It's all moot now with EP1 but with the added scene in ANH you see that Han is not scared of Jabba, he respects him- and Jabba will totally bring 5-6 guys with blasters to your ship to work the money out of you.

I also really like the end battle in the SE because the x-wings move the way I always imagined when I was a kid. In the original version, they are just too slow.

I am also a fan of the Adywan version.
*I like the fixed lightsaber blades, both the color and how they now actually 'come out' of Lukes saber.
* I also really like the re-edit on the conversation in Bens hut because it is much closer to the original script/story.
*I do admit I like the ramped-up lightsaber fight between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader, the over-the-top battle at the end and the blinking Cantina aliens and such.
* Some of this 'additions' were a little much and not needed but overall okay. I do like how he fixed little things, like adding the radar dish to the Falcon in Docking Bay 94 and making the Rebel pilots helmets red, and adding the original Aunt Beru voice.

Honestly I wish I could get a BR copy of the OT, the SE, and the Adywan version and then I could mix my own 'perfect' copy.
