Star Wars blu ray in September

I heard that when Luke burns Vader's body on Endor they added Vader yelling "Noooo!". An odd choice seeing as how he's dead there, but on a Lucas scale of stupidity it's ranked fairly low.

I can understand the Lucas hate in this thread and I don't agree with the changes myself but........you gotta admit those buckets do look awesome in HD

***ATTENTION RE:HARMY'S EDITIONS***
Crossposting to here as well as the boycott thread, as it's probably the best way to respond to the flood of PMs I've received. NOt paying any attention to anything else in these threads, just posting for info. Ignore at your pleasure.

First, yes, Harmy's versions do what they say on the tin. These were documented over at OT.com, which is where I heard about them. Purists are going to be happy with these. If you like any of the SE changes, you won't like these. Second, I will not be distributing these, no. Sorry, they're too big to fit on even a DL disc, and I don't have a blu-ray drive to burn them or the $10 a disc or whatever it is. Plus this is a minor hobby for me, something I do when the family is asleep, and I'd rather spend the time making armor, costumes, and toys for the kids. Plus you can get these pretty easily, just search binsearch.info or your newsgroup search engine of choice for "Harmy" and they pop up at the top of the list. 3-7 hours later and you've got the files. Enjoy, hopefully this will provide a viable alternative for those who were hoping for the originals. Now back to the regularly scheduled....whatever this is.

Y'know, I kind of bit my lip the first few times you've posted about downloading but I feel like I should tell you that it's probably not the best idea to post about this.
Yes, people will ask you for the files over PM. Yes it can be annoying. However, to first post and admit that you download/upload versions of this movie and now give people instructions on how to do so is going a little far.
Many people on this board have HD versions of the OT. We've also heard of Adywan, Harmy, editdroid...etc. We just don't post about it because we know better.
Ever notice why there aren't many 1080p screenshots floating around? It's not because we're blind to the world. It's because we're not stupid.
Take this as friendly advice, stop posting like you have discovered the long lost valley of the dinosaurs. To many of us, all you're doing is admitting that you're breaking the law over and over and over again. To the people who don't know that these files exist enough information has been given to them where they can do a Google search and find them if they want by themselves.

Thanks for saying what needed to be said. I'm a wee bit surprised a mod didn't step in when the downloading talk started.
That and with over 800 posts, just how many more times can the same things be rehashed, both here and in the other Star Wars blu-ray threads.

I love the OT regardless. It's the STORY that makes them endure all these needless "upgrades".
It's simply a way of Lucasfilm to re-sell the same product over and over again by tweaking it - that's no secret, and they know it works.
Any fan of Star Wars will tell you the OT NEVER needed any tweaking. It was fun, totally enjoyable and completely perfect as-is.
Lucas has this idea that special effects make a good movie - this is not really the case. Sure, Avatar was visually brilliant, but without the story - albeit a derived one - the SFX would have meant nothing.
As long as the original cuts of the films are on the Blu-Ray, we really need not worry about changes.

Let summarize:

  • The changes are only good unless people think their bad.
  • Fanboys either only love the OT or all Star Wars.
  • George Lucas has no clue or maybe he does.
  • Some will buy this just for the extras, some will buy it just cause it’s Star Wars, and some won’t buy it.
  • Everyone on the RPF is a whiner in the early stages of dementia.
  • Darth Vader is a whiner.
  • Ewoks still suck but now they blink.
  • R2D2 must be very flexible.
  • Jabba’s door just got bigger.
  • Larry Young doesn’t care and may or may not be paying attention.
  • More X-Wings somehow are supposed to add to the excitement.
  • Obi-Wan’s dragon impersonation has always sounded stupid.
  • It may or may not be illegal to own a 35mm film print.
  • Name calling is acceptable as long as you are right.
  • Lucasfilm can’t fix the sound or correct the color of their films.
  • The dug thing walking on its hands looks stupid no matter what film it’s in.
  • George Lucas will one day release another version of Star Wars and this discussion will happen all over again causing several members to have a fit.
  • A lot of people on the RPF take this stuff far too seriously in one way or the other whether or not they want to admit it.
  • The pickle ship still looks like a pickle.
  • Jar Jar Binks has not been removed from the PT’s.
  • Greedo is the worst shot in a galaxy far, far away.
  • It is possible to die from a broken heart.
  • Beyonce is pregnant.
  • Jedi are either very powerful or not, very wise or not.
  • The crackhead Yoda puppet in TPM was a riot.
  • It is possible to save those you love by murdering those you care about.
  • No one can identify that thing that falls from Bespin at the end of ESB.
  • The Empire builds cool space station with epic defects.
  • The Rocketeer is being released on Blu-ray. Jennifer Connelly is hot.
  • A New Hope is a lame title.
  • Micdavis owned an illegal copy of a Star Trek episode. He was sentenced to 185 years hard labor. He escaped.
  • Timmythekid seems to have fixed his technical problem.
  • None of the changes to the movies are that bad except for the Han/Greedo exchange and the "No, nooo" but its fun to ***** about them.
  • It’s bad to stare at Cboath’s spinning light saber for a long period of time.

Funniest post ever! Cheered me up :)

Ouch.

10 years of that thing and that's the first complaint i've heard :)

Can you imagine what it will be here like once the 3D conversions are done?

Things could take a slight turn for the worse........

Alternatively I can pray that nobody will bother to see TPM and that will stop them dead in their tracks. Perhaps then, to cover the finacial loss Lucasfilm will produce the Original Trilogy in its original release state on blu ray, just as they have done before with the other formats to soak even more money out of us. Call me Mr Cynical.

Mola Rob- that was the best summary of a 32 page thread I have ever read.A*

I figure, worst case, that 3D TPM will cross 100M with relative ease. I mean, we're not talking just the US, it'll be released world wide (obviously). Probably hit 200-250 worldwide in a couple weeks. George isn't throwing money at the 3D redo's if he claims restoring the original print is too cost prohibitive so it won't have to make too much to have the rest put out.

Stunningly, the PT is coming out first. If you want to capitalize monetarily, put out the big guns first so it's not old news by the time they hit. Maybe it's easier to convert those...

Thanks Darth Myeek :)

What, you think you might have to ask her for a DNA test? As long as the baby looks like you then let it slide.

Ooh, I just had a thought.

How much you want to bet somewhere in EP2 or EP3 walking around the Jedi Temple we get a background cameo of a 10-12 year old Ahsoka Tano.

Perfect set-up for the Clone Wars.

Nice - I've got the DVR Set.

I think George has spent too much time in San Fran and he's gone loco like the rest of them.
