Star Wars blu ray in September

For those wanting a "Cliffs Notes" version of this:

Timmythekid is irritated primarily by the TECHNICAL flaws in the release. Putting aside whatever one thinks of the ARTISTIC choices (IE: "Nooooooo" vs. musical score and a look), the issue is whether you think you're getting your value for a set that includes SOME fixes but doesn't (apparently) resolve all of the lingering issues from the '04 release.

Thank you. If only Timmy could express himself with half the civility and intelligence.

How was anything I said uncivil? Long, yes, and unintendly so, but I challenge you to find one uncivil comment in anything I've said. No display of GEORGELUCASMUSTDIE, or personal attacks on anyone here, but rather an honest vent of frustration, dissapointment, and bewilderment at this product, with examples of what the issue is. I felt it better to fully explain than leave it at "THIS SUCKS!", which at least some in this thread have used as an opportunity to jump on posters for not having anything to back up their opinions. Sorry if complete thoughts instead of speaking in sound-bites offended you all in some way. Jeesus, excuse the **** out of me for living.

Anyone hear if they fixed the stunt blade shadow in the final duel in ROTJ. Am I the only one who that bothers? It is weird because I tend not to be bothered by a lot of the stuff discussed here. But the one thing that does bother me, no one else seems to talk about.

Still there...

How'd he get in there?

Well duh, he obviously used his rock drill attachment:

Heh...incidentally did you see that another change in RotJ is that they've added more tools to R2 when he's spazzing out after getting shot? New electrical effect and NEW. TOOLS. Honestly neither here nor there, but just...why? Why would anyone spend they're energy on that? Whom has the number of TOOLS poking out of R2 ever bothered before?

What is your motivation for that sentiment? IMO Timmy is one of the few people involved in this Civil War that has shown any type of "intelligence" at all.

If it's because it's hard to read his posts because of lack of paragraphs, I think he's already stated that that is a computer-related problem.

If I could chime in on the changes to the movies from the OT, I don't like any of them. I likes my star wars unmodified. The worst offender to me is the NOOOOO! vader thing. It sucked in ROTS and it's way out of place in ROTJ.

Of these changes, what's bewildering is that there are things that could be fixed that need fixing (saber shadow, coloring, saber colors, etc) and yet they seem to invest their time and energy in irrelevant stuff that doesn't help a damn thing (vader saying no, putting R2 behind a rock, etc...).

I want to say it's inconcievable, but it obviously isn't since they did. Besides I always get the inigo voice in my head when I hear that word (you keep using that word, i don't think it means what you think it means) :)

It does seem to defy logic.

For a guy who whines about the cost of doing things (like preserving the original cut), spending money and loads of pointless changes doesn't make any sense at all.

I thought that looked funny, but for me any of the newer add-ons (even pre-Bluray) catch me off guard as I have never really sat down and watched any of the newer releases... My go to has and continues to be my laser disc rips when I sit down to watch the movies... So it's real hard for me to pick out the new-new changes as even the old changes are still new to me...

The absurd thing about a lot of these changes is the fact he could have filmed the new content during the original filming and post production.

  • He could have added some dumb sight gags involving Jawa’s falling off something and droids bashing each other. This to me screams PT 6 year old humor more than anything.
  • Greedo could have shot at Han first.
  • He could have added the sound of Luke screaming as he fell down the shaft in ESB (and then removed it, or changed it, or added it again).
  • The technology existed to make a hero Ewok mask that blinked.
  • Vader could have said “No, noooo…”
  • Jabba’s door could have appeared bigger with a matte painting.
It's almost like he's not trying to make the OT conform to his original vision but instead he's making a few changes every few years to get the fans to buy yet another version.

But you don't understand; the technology to make NONE of it look as if it had ever existed in the real physical world or ever been in front of a real camera didn't. See, the movies are fairytales, and to really feel that you need to completely disbelieve every image vomited up on the screen.

Really not neccessary anyways - just get a basic newsgroup subscription and grab Harmy's despecialized 720p presentations. DONE!

Thanks for the tip on that, btw :) Started looking into them. Seem to have gotten great reviews. Dude put in a lot of work.

Some internet accounts come with a newsgroup package, too.

I sense a laser-disc-rip-DVD run thread in the junkyard in the near future...

You can get pressed laser disc bootlegs out of Asia for cheap, the pressed Five Star bootleg was all the rage before high speed Internet made it easier to just download or source other fan edits for download...

I love the laser disc rips to pieces but they are honestly a little painful on my eyes now with the 65" TV...
