Star Wars blu ray in September

he is an independant film maker for all intents and purposes, separate from the studio system. It means he gets the final say on what happens in star wars films, not a bunch studio execs...

Fannish drivel.

He still has to have it distributed, marketed, toys made, an endless list of things.

He pays millions in salaries to design, build, develop. Uses the skills of thousands.

To lay it all in HIS hands is utterly retarded and insulting to the thousands that make it happen.

again you're missing the point and talking about things that have no relevance to what i'm saying.......people are arguing about content (han shoots first, yub yub, jabba song etc) and when it comes to the content of a star wars film, george has the final say...

in no way was i ever saying anything to disregard the thousands that make a star wars film happen, you're just putting meaning into my words that isn't there....

You're saying he has the last word and you have no real way to knowing if that is true other than the fannish drivel that slides around the internet.

Spielberg has the final say on his films as well and he has the common decency to let the fans decide which version they want to watch. He does not penalize them by giving them old versions with inferior definition and sound. I think he understands what got him to the place he is in now.

Actually, when it comes to Indy, George has more power than the 'Berg.

FREE HAT!

Creatively I have no doubt Spielberg was responsible for the quality of the first three movies. Lucas seems to have taken more control over the last one and look what happened.

I was not referring to Indy anyway. I was referring to the fact that even if Spielberg tinkers with one of his movies he never denies the fans access to the original versions and does not treat the originals as inferior.

Ah, there it is again... George is only ever responsible for the poor parts of any show, huh?

Yeah, it's not as if he took out the guns in E.T. or anything....

Spielberg and Lucas are equally to blame for CS, no sugar coating that.

I have original cuts of ALL the OT movies.

The complaint is the lack of an HD release.

So if GL did an HD release, then SuperHD comes along. Do you expect that too?

Personally I don't want to see a clean-up version. It will always look funny because no two people have the same opinions on what is right.

So who decides what is right? Seems that should fall to the creator. It has. We have what we have.

Quit whining.

Look at the DVD release of ET and tell me which versions of the movie are on it.

I honestly couldn't care less.

I just disagree with the idea that ANY director, much less Lucas, "owes" his fans access to the original films.

And the original versions are out on DVD.

Ah, there it is again... George is only ever responsible for the poor parts of any show, huh?

Look at the movies he has directed:

American Graffiti - A good movie but filmed like a documentary.
THX-1138 - A movie with some interesting ideas but again filmed like a documentary.
Star Wars - Jackpot!
The Phantom Menace - Crap
Attack of the Clones - Crap
Revenge of the Sith - Crap

Lucas is not exactly known as a wonderful writer and/or director. He is known as an idea man and businessman and I cannot fault that he is good at those two things.

Actually, he's a great writer: how can you fault a guy who came up with Graffiti, STAR WARS and Raiders? Sure, his dialogue needs work; but again, give him some ****ing credit, would ya?

Not to mention that the story of apocalypse now was georges doing but he passed on making it to make star wars
