Star Wars blu ray in September

Some of the new scenes Lucas added are really starting to grow on me.

I wish I could get the Harmy versions, but I just can't figure it out. I've followed the directions and I get nothing. :(

There's still some weirdness going on in the Harmy ones just due to the fact that he doesn't have much to work with. The re-insertion of the eyebrows on Vader looked pretty lame in my opinion.

I've kept up with at least some - or most - of this thread...

But has anyone mentioned that the documentaries on the final disc really SUCK?

The first three are re-hashes of what we've been living with since 1977, and are POOR looks into the film-making process by today's standards (the first one, with R2 and C3PO in particular). And they look horrendous.

The Anatomy Of A Dewback was mildly OK, except for the annoying putz sitting with his feet on the theater seatback, who was nearly as bad in his blind eforts to infuse drama into his verbiage as - say - Quentin Tarantino when Q gets in front of the camera. Could a bigger dork try harder to look cool (hope he's not a member here now!?

The Star Warriors (on the 501st, in the Rose Parade) was fun to watch, but made me feel uncomfortably self-conscious since I'm not too far away from the nerd-ville it demonstrates. And what I really want is insight to the making of the MOVIES, not so much fan rallies.

Haven't seen the final two yet (Tech of SW, and the "Masters" one), but am not hopeful at this stage.

What did you guys think?

The Making Of Star Wars with 3PO and R2 from '77 is my favorite making of doc. I'm very glad to see it in a good transfer. It was originally 16mm I believe, which is why it looks so grainy. The Empire one is great too.

The other stuff, meh who cares?

I do like them for the nostalgia factor. The ESB one was better. And nice to have them in a single package.

I suppose they suffer, in that the art of "Making of" docs has gotten far better in the past 30 years (as well it should).

I love those vintage documentaries, and sadly From Star Wars to Jedi wasn't included on the set. While they may be outdated by today's standards, they do show how innovative and imaginative the films really were for their time and how they captured everyone in a sense of wonder.

One thing that you can't do now is have some sense of wonder any longer. As great as it is to know virtually every aspect of how film making works these days, those original documentaries remind us that there was a time when the secrets to movie making lie behind a dark curtain and the magic was the curiosity of HOW they did it.

Yeah, i felt almost exactly the same as you.

The Making of's i already have and never watch anymore. I didn't much like the Star Warriors one....it was just way too dull.

The Masters one is interesting and worth a view....but only once.

The Star Wars tech thing was basically a waste of time and nothing more than disc-filler.

I was SO dissappointed by the Archives flyby or whatever it's called.....when i heard there was an Archive section on the BD's i couldn't wait.....

One final note......watching ROTJ for the second time, i can't believe how much of that film was shot out of focus!

agreed, mods should lock this

Why? This isn't the "Boycott" thread. There are still some discussions going on that aren't all hate.

I even admit that ESB was almost perfect. No noticable crazy changes that upset me, minus the Jango voice on Boba(but that was done years ago).

I enjoyed the flyby (how could you not), but was frustrated by it.

Its like being given a Ferrari to drive, but told you have to keep it 5 under the speed limit...

Hopefully the next Star Wars home video release has a decidedly different flavor and texture than this.

As for extras, frankly I think everything that could be said about the films, has been said. There are no more untold anecdotes. No more revelatory points of view anyone could offer that would change any viewers opinion. It's time to put the talking head documentaries to bed.

I think most fans agree one of the best SW docs out there was "The Beginning" from the Episode I DVD. Why? Because there was no talking heads. No interviews. No commentary.. They just let you be a fly on the wall during all aspects of the production. That's what I'd like to see with the remainder of the films. Let the FOOTAGE do the talking. Mine those archives and let the treasures speak for themselves. Of course I don't know for sure, but I have to believe there exists more on the set footage and dailies and outtakes from the OT that we didn't get.

I was absolutely infuriated during the "Conversations With the Masters" doc when they showed about 2 seconds of video tape footage from the white Boba Fett prototype camera test. It exists! So let's see the whole thing in its entirety. Stuff like that is drool worthy, and needs to be presented on its own, without any annoying red frame around it.

Just got these for Christmas, and so far my biggest notice is that Episode 1 Yoda is now CGI. A BIG improvement for me. I always hated that Ep. 1 puppet...
Oh and the clarity on ANH was impressive. You could see the brush strokes on Vaders mask. Made me want a Vader lid SOO much more...

After I finish the 6 films I'll start digging into the features..

I have to say we just got a 47" LED in at my auction house so I couldnt wait to put Star Wars in. It is SO detailed it looks like Star Wars was redone in animation or something. I cant even describe it. It looks almost to good. After only seeing it, blurry Iguess for all these years, it is just wierd. I am not sure if I like it or not. The prequals look ridiculously brilliant with the colors and details. I just dont know what to think or how to describe it. It is like watching the movies for the first time again as I notice so much that I hadnt before.
