Star Wars blu ray in September

Yeah the details on the blurays are amazing but at the same time... it looks too good in the prequels.... It looks so crisp that you can really tel when they're using a blue screen lol. I quite liekd the bonus disc. I really enjoyed the hour and a half long part of just little clips with Star wars references from all different tv shows and stuff made into one. That was very cool :)

which disc is that?

Just watched ROTJ last night. The 'new' Jabba's song still bothers me. The ewok eye blinks didn't bother me as much as I thought they would, but why did they only make Wicket and the babies eyes blink? I also noticed that they gave Wicket some actual eyes with pupils and an iris - didn't see this anywhere else. The 'no' and 'noooooo' didn't bother me as much as I thought it would, but it's still not good.

The digital effects really need to be updated though, because they look so out of place with the practical effects, especially the sarlacc pit's mouth. The maps they used stare you back in the face with all the details of nooks and crannies on the actual prop.

I watched ANH a few days ago, and I was amazed at how good it looked. The original footage, that is.

The Special Edition CGI is really jarring and out of place. The establishing shots and background additions of Mos Eisley just irritated me to no end, moreso now than in the previous DVD and VHS versions of the films since the clarity of the Blu-ray shows just how the CGI just doesn't mesh with the older footage.

And I'm still scratching my head in regards to why, with all the tweaking they did for the blu-rays, why they couldn't "fix" all the lightsaber issues. :facepalm

I've had it with my box set....i've just listed it on the bay....

Everytime i see a new re-do it pulls me right out of the film......

To say that this star wars release is a let down is an understatement. To say that it sucks donkey balls would also be an understatement.

:cry

I'm amazed how they totally and royally frakked up. Adding stupid stuff, fixing stuff that doesn't need fixing, not fixing stuff that does need fixing, not releasing the originals... again. What's next? "The star wars trilogy on blu-ray... for the first time in 3D!" :confused two years later yet another version, this time with added deleted scenes, also in 3D and more added CGI stuff: Endor, final celebration, Jar-Jar, dancing :facepalm

a lot of the 2004 release issues are fixed, audio, lightsaber colors and so on!

Nope, not even close. Luke's lightsaber still changes from being blue to green in ANH.

and yoda has been replaced in phantom menace with a cg version, thats one change i'll be glad to see

Indeed. The only "needed" change. He should change things that really needs to be changed, like what I mentioned above and the general bad lightsaber effects in Ep 2, 3, 4 and luke's in Ep 6, which is waaaaaaay too green.

No one deserves anything they didn't work for or earn.

Well there you go then. We work and earn money.. and then we buy these films, tickets, toys, what-not so the world does deserve the originals.

Yes Star Wars is George Lucas' vision, but hundreds of people came together to help make that vision a reality.

and even more people came together watching it in theaters and made the two sequels possible not to mention the release of the special editions in '97 and the prequel trilogy.

Looks like you can win the Blur-rays next weekend on Spike.

Oooh spike.. slightly worse than these horrible blu-rays :lol

My vote was for Vader yelling, "Yippee ki yay mother ****er!"

I'd buy that set!!

I really hope George Lucas decides to make them available some day , even though I would not be watching them.

I have read Georgie's will... all it says is "burn the originals" :(

Also, all the different versions of Star Wars ARE available.

Nope.

that they've fixed the issues with the DVD's I'm a bit stoked for this.

They didn't fix them.

What did he say?

"Get your head out of the sand"

Wake up to reality.

Coming from a guy with his head in the sand :facepalm

Of these changes, what's bewildering is that there are things that could be fixed that need fixing (saber shadow, coloring, saber colors, etc) and yet they seem to invest their time and energy in irrelevant stuff that doesn't help a damn thing

Hear, hear!

Oh no the lightsaber core is very inconsistent here I'll just fix that...

"What are you doing?"

The lightsaber core needs some fixing in this shot I just...

"No, fix this shot instead, do some motion tracking and then add some rocks infront of R2, and don't forget to add some fake depth of field"

:behave

I think most fans agree one of the best SW docs out there was "The Beginning" from the Episode I DVD.

Amen, and HELL YES! :D

Someone seems to have released a lot of pent up anger :) Feel better? :)

On the plus side, they won't release the 3D blu-ray's for at least 6 years - gotta release them all in theatres first.

You gotta love the 'we don't have the money to fix up the original as shot' when they'll pull in 600M on the 3D releases (combined), not to mention all the new licensing money. (Anyone had a star wars burger from BK yet? :)) From what I can see they're not even doing their own advertising for it (like the blu-rays) - they're getting licensee's to do it for them.

Life is short. See all versions and buy all DVD's...crack open a beer and watch star wars just like you did for the first time...with an open mind. lol

Lucas is a billionaire, right? He's got billions of dollars. So much money. And he's making millions more every year. He's swimming in money. He's so rich. All of us combined wouldn't equal to half of what he makes in a year. He's that rich. Billions of dollars. That's a lot of copper plated zinc pennies.

So how the heck does a $35,000 kickstarter project (original goal was $10,000) doing a much better restoration job than Lucas did on all Star Wars films AND the deleted scenes? It's maddening how so little money is doing so much, yet someone with billions isn't doing crap. Oh, and the film in question?

Alternatively, life is short, so spend your cash on the stuff that makes you happy, instead of spending it on stuff that may end up irritating the hell out of you.

If the changes that keep getting made bug you and have bugged you in the past, it sounds like it's a safe bet that current and future changes will not improve your attitude. Ergo, spending money on a product like this, which will irritate you, is a waste of money. Better to spend it on, say, a nice dinner.

So... Is Lucas going to finally do something about that scene on Bespin with Solo?

I mean the doors to the dining room open, and Darth Vader is there waiting-

And Solo pulls his gun and shoots first!?! Like three times?! :eek

Vader wasn't even pointing a gun at him or anything! The nerve!

Burton, you just don't understand. Vader is not the issue here. You need to think about the more important things like Han shooting the console and the trash compactor door.

Just watched TPM and I gotta say the quality of it was pretty impressive. I hadn't seen the film since it was released on DVD and some of the stuff that bothered me in the past, didn't really bother me.

Does anyone know if there were tweaks to the editing? I know Yoda was replaced (thankfully), but Ric Olle's character did not bother me like it did all the 6 other times I had seen this film. Don't get me wrong, I still pretty much loathe this film as the directing in particular and the editing is just plain awful - plus all the unnecessary 'cutesy' stuff w/Jar Jar.
