Hmm…let me think…a show that’s really good that some people don’t consider “on brand” enough…or multiple terrible shows with a thin veneer of lightsabers and Boba Fetts pasted on top…what would I rather have…

Ep6 was an amazing bit of television - insanely good. Except it wasn’t Star Wars.

It's probably more like Star Wars to those who grew up with Star Wars in 1977 and ESB (and I'm not talking about the "special editions"). At least I'm feeling it. In 1977 the Empire was fearsome and the tech inspired awe.

ROTJ is where the franchise really took off with the alien muppet freak show. The prequels took it over the top using CG to dump even more droids n aliens into the merchandising stew.

Not sure if you meant one thing or the other, but ...

For me, Cassian Andor is like a parallel-universe version of Kyle Katarn, and therefore not from the familiar Star Wars that I know and love.
(I wrote earlier) that the show reminded me of some EU novels I've read, both in its pacing and how it depicted regular people and Rebel fighters — and by being familiar in that way, that makes up a little that it is not from the right Star Wars universe. But if they bring in stuff that had been introduced in the "sequel trilogy", then I'm out.

Tie died a tad early on that highway, an interesting variant though and very close.

Totally agree. It feels like one of the old novels brought to live action. Less space opera but it's not meant to be. This is more of a perspective "from the trenches", in some cases quite literally. I totally think they are meaning to make Cassian Andor a canonical, pseudo-Kyle Katarn, even down to the Bryar pistol.

I noticed the flight suits seem to be grey, which makes for another variant for the cosplayers. EDIT: Maybe it's just the lighting

I got the impression it was just for that location, something to do with the astrological disturbances from The Eye. Wasn't it commented that there were custom controls because the set up isn't standard for that ship?
Well, I seem to recall Andor being incredulous upon being told they were going to try to escape in a Rono(?) freighter, which I interpreted as having pretty awful performance even to the point of requiring assistance taking off. As such they were going to use the Eye phenomenon to attempt to cover their escape since they otherwise would've had no chance outrunning any pursuit craft.

Perhaps. It's possible they have someone coming to collect them as well, hence why going to the doctor might make Vel worry about failing their mission...

Guess it's an unnecessary excuse for me to rewatch.

I grew up with the originals and saw them in the theatre. I’m loving Andor - I just don’t think that competently written characters and a truthfully penned world of believable motivations is reliant on including urinating soldiers, prostitutes and sex scenes. Star Wars for good or bad is a fantasy space world created primarily for 12 year olds, it’s not just a visual context for any dramatic content. Again, I’m loving Andor.

I agree. I didn't need the brothel or peeing either. I'm chalking that down to the writers still trying to dial in the tone. They shouldn't have to sell us on "grittiness." It's the acting and storytelling that make this show mature - not the sexual content.

Disney, please take note of people's reactions to just the sequence of the TIE pilots scrambling down to their fighters and how it is integrated into the heist for effect. Quality before quantity. This is like a breath of fresh air after decades of suffocation.

I mean, just look at it.

Yea, seems the suits are a charcole tone and slightly shiny - which is reflecting up the grey-scale. A grey suit Tie pilot feels familiar for some reason but I can't think why, maybe a 1983 era character? A pilot that hasn't made it into the 'hot-shots' gang yet? Or just not on personal escort duties, something like that.

While looking at that Tie scene, I just spotted my fav view of anything officially SW in four deacades - a single frame with just enough motion blur not to worry about the details ....of
