Star Wars: A New Hope - question??

With your idea in mind, perhaps 3PO and R2 didn't really work together a whole lot between ROTS and ANH - they could easily have been assigned to the same task/mission only shortly before we see them at the beginning of the movie.

It seems to me that perhaps R2 has more to do with Leia - entrusting secret Rebel mission data and Death Star plans to a generic/random droid doesn't seem like a mistake that Leia would make. I always figured R2 was attached to her before the movie starts.

On a side note, she did know there was a tracking device onboard the Falcon and headed for Yavin anyway, leading The Empire directly to them. Perhaps she figured the plans were more important to deliver than actually jumping around from system to system whilst they deactivated the tracking equipment etc.
Are you saying Leia and R2 had some "secret" relationship?
Interesting. I never really considered that R2 is basically a giant mechanized phallus.

Haha, I just meant that I always imagined R2 was Leia's droid rather than belonging to anyone on the ship and that R2 and 3PO were introduced to one another when they boarded the Tantive. The prequels kinda ruined that idea though...

In my heart of hearts, just about everything explained and revealed after ESB (and even a couple of things in ESB) ruined the brilliant germ borne from Star Wars.

The ANH Radio Drama goes into more of what happened with R2 and Leia before/during the ship being attacked. Also supposedly R2 has never had a memory wipe so he knows the entire story, while C-3PO blabs about everything so he has regular memory wipes.

great. An unintelligible droid paired with a droid with therapeutic Alzheimer's.
It's a wonder they get anything accomplished.

I was wondering about that since R2 is the one who dictates the entire adventure to the Will of the Souls.

Sometime around ROTS Lucas said R2 never has a memory wipe, but C-3PO did. So it's official I guess. There was a cool scene in one of the books where R2 accidentally plays part of a holo showing Anakin and Padme talking about her being pregnant. Luke asks what that was and R2 tries the "it's old data" trick again.

I think you might be mixing up the "Journal of the Whills" from the Star Wars novelization with the "Well of the Souls" from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
