Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

IMO (which absolutely all of this discussion is, opinion) Trek hasn't been decent for quite some time. I just dont see the need to remind everyone at every single opportunity that that's how I feel about it. Not everyone who voices criticism of Trek (or other things) repeats themselves ad nauseam though. I'm all for constructive criticism but not hammering opinions every time someone says something I don't agree with.

Also one can't prove others wrong for liking or not liking a show or a movie lol. That's a bit bonkers and amusing at the same time.

It doesn’t.

The “I Hate Everything” crew is really grasping at straws at this point.

Even time I think I'm out, they pull me back in. I'm not even posting in this thread anymore, but this statement demands an "ignore".

The awful science, characters, and plots of these shows has been well-documented. Their cultural impact is nil. Their merchandise is negligible. Their continuity errors and canon violations (both internally and in the larger context of the franchise as it existed from 1966-2005) have been extensively documented.

Kurtzman and his cronies can throw one bad show after another at the wall and pretend to be building an expansive and popular franchise, but absolutely nothing points to these shows being successful or popular. STD's first season utterly failed when broadcast on CBS. And all that this new show looks to be is them pretending to acknowledge the fan complaints about the other shows and taking advantage of Anson Mount actually being popular in order to disguise their usual terrible writing, and to further reboot and overwrite TOS. Because the original characters and material they've created have failed miserably, so now they're relying upon nostalgia to try and reel people back in. Like the TREK version of a Trojan Horse.

This is just more of the same wearing TOS' dead skinsuit. And those who are optimistic should just be waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Was out after the first couple episodes of Discovery and Picard.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode of SNW, in fact I was a little misty with the intro and
had a big grin on my face by the end of the show. To be honest I do not trust these guys
to not mess this up as well. For the time being at least we have something that I think, feels
like Star Trek. Some thing we have not had for going on a decade IMO. Now they just need to get out of their own way
and do away with or minimize the member-berries.
This show will stand on its own two feet if given a chance and competent writing.

if memory serves, the first ep was written, directed, and executive produced by Akiva Goldsman. For reference, one of the worst working writers in the industry. Full stop. Despite his occasional big win on collaborative projects, he is literally one of the worst writers out there. Yet he keeps getting work.

So
The fact that the first episode was pretty enjoyable means that this MIGHT be the low water mark for the series. I feel like it can't get worse! lol

It doesn't actually feel like Star Trek, it feels closer though. It's like someone watched a couple of episodes of TOS and figured they could fake it, but they've been so integrated into pseudo-Trek garbage that while it could be a decent first effort, it won't last. I don't trust Paramount, period. They've already proven themselves entirely incompetent. Unfortunately, I think people are so desperate for anything remotely like Trek that they'll stick around far longer than they should. The cracks are already there. I'd be happy to be proven wrong but I don't think it's going to get to the end of the first season without showing its true colors.
