Star Trek PADD collection

Thanks! The rounded edges were done by hand with a file and sandpaper, but the shapes and holes were all laser cut.

Nice graphic that you posted in the paper props section! That would be awesome to have a functioning padd for sure. I imagine as the tablets get thinner and thinner, it would definitely be possible to build a cover right over it to make it into a padd!

thanks..

and if you ever find yourself a tablet you wanna use.. I can make a FLASH GUI/interface for ya.. ;)

Cool, thanks xl97. That could be a very cool project someday.

I recently drew up this screen graphic from some screenshots I took of one of my favorite Voyager episodes, "Tinker, Tenor, Spy." This is the padd that the doctor looks at in the hilarious conference room scene. Unfortunately the best reference I had was from a stream of the episode through netflix. I was able to get it close, but the video wasn't sharp enough to see some of the finer details around the yellow bracket design.

Awesome collection of PADDs!

Have you thought about doing Geordi's red PADD? I always liked that one but haven't found a good replica out there...

Sean

Hey Sean, thanks for the comment! I love the padds; kind of addicted to them.

Yes I've thought about making Geordi's PADD. I haven't really figured out how to do the raised buttons though, but it's definitely one that is begging to be made. I've also seen references of the other red engineering padd with the odd shape. Both look pretty cool.

Hey, E. I'm lovin' the collection! Any chance you might be willing to share some of the templates with us?

Ooo, yes please! :)

Does anyone know where I can get copies of the Matt Munson templates and graphics? His site seems to be down?

If anyone does have copies of the templates I would be interested in them also. Matt Munsons site is still down.

Hi there, these are great! Could you possibly go into a little more detail about how the graphics were produced?
Thanks ever so much.

Whoa E! Your collection is fantastic, really impressive builds! As a new TNG fan (never watched it until this year) I was shocked to see the "tablets" being used on a show 25 yrs ago! PADD is on my long list of Trek props to acquire. :D

Thanks for the comments!

Loram: The graphics were printed in high resolution on simple inkjet transparencies (I didn't use the transparency setting on the printer, which makes it low resolution.) The images were flipped horizontally in the computer prior to printing because the final prints face will be the shiny side of the transparency. The printing side has a texture. After the print is all dry I back them with a white adhesive label paper that you can find in Staples! The result makes for a convincing screen like surface.

Bigdaddy: Thanks! These PADDs are what got me into trek collecting in the first place. They're relatively easy to build and paint and are fun to have variants of. I'm considering offering some kits of these for sale eventually, laser cut and with graphics all printed. If I do that I'll update in the junkyard.
