Star Trek Into Darkness (Pre-release)

The ideas that made Star Trek unique and really an anomaly were it’s creative scope and vision about society and the future. It was so impactful to generations of people because it went above the corporate profit model into something that actually elevated us, molded scientists, artists and intellectuals, and had significant impact on our outlooks, on technology and our social ideals. You can’t say that about many other forms of entertainment-for-profit. Star Trek has a value that can’t just be measured by money, as Jeyl mentioned. Why throw that value out the window? It’s ILLOGICAL!

Still not sure if that's the big E. ...and I am so looking forward to this movie.

It looks like it to me. I don't think they'll blow her up though, probably get a refit. :)

If nothing else this film should be a fun ride.
Agreed on both accounts.

I love Trek - although I didn't watch much of DS9 or Enterprise... my biggest complaint on the new Trek is Chris Pine... I just don't like him as Kirk.

Is there anything original in this film?

Bad guy attacks Earth. Kirk wants to hunt him down despite protests. Kirk must earn his Captain's rank. Since this movie doesn't need the last one to matter, it's looking like it's going to retread the same ground.

With "Mother Earth" often being personified as a female symbol, I'm surprised Jeyl is so opposed to her prominent inclusion in Star Trek.

One more thing... how come every time Jeyl posts, someone feels the need to post a (not funny) putdown? I'm posting my open distaste.disgust for the direction JJ's taken the franchise and no-one's been picking on me.

You know what else is usually personified with the female gender? The Enterprise. Apparently the marketing campaign likes showing off how beaten and bloodied she looks.

It would take a flow chart and weeks to explain.

Check it out...

...is that a new-school Klingon Disruptor?!? :eek:D

It appears to have close combat blades on the business end, reminiscent of some of the guns in Borderlands 2! :love
Also... is it just me, or does Uhura have a rather nasty looking scar across the top of her nose and her right cheek just below her eye? :confused

I'm still holding on to see the film for final evaluation... but, the first Abram's Trek film was more memorable - flaws and all than 80% of the Trek films prior to it.

Will it be Wrath of Khan good? Most likely not. But, if it's half as good as Star Trek IV - then it's still better than most of the other Trek films.

I think it's just a trick with the lighting...looks to me like her eyebrow dips into shadow at the bridge and an eye wrinkle coming out the other side of the shadow.
