Ya, unfortunately, it seems that the target audience wants this type of dismissive garbage. All they want is dystopian worlds, people who "think" for themselves by completely dismissing anyone else's input, and scenes full of long drawn out dramatic scenes of crying. Don't tell me anything because I'm right and that's just how it is.

I mean, it is what it is. The cycle will move on like it always does, and the next generation will displace this one with some other style of story telling, resulting in forums filled with complaining.

I don't know what Star Trek is anymore. It's just so depressing not only to watch, but the characters and storylines are just so filled with depressing people and actions. I guess that just reflects how people feel now. Shame they don't want to see hope and positive people or something greater than our reality to aspire to.

The irony is that, when TOS debuted, as well as TNG (and even Star Wars), the world was in similar "depressing" states with crises left and right, and generally depressing entertainment. Scifi was exceedingly dystopian too, overall. Trek and Wars succeeded by creating a fun escapism, and of course Trek had a positive message for the future. While I sat through season 1&2 of STD and had fun at times, this clip is ... beyond utter garbage... and somehow incredibly manages to be offensive. I'd rather jump out of an airlock than have that person as my captain. Yeesh. (And the latest buzz surrounding Picard makes it sound like it too has gone down the "dark and edgy" path.)
 
I’ve not been following the show but did watch that clip, it’s too bad to because I like both those actors (even if Benjamin always sounds like Bob Belcher) but this looks like what people assume the Orville is like.

It is from one of the Short Treks which are little vignettes they do between seasons. They are just fun little shorts. I actually really enjoyed this particular one. It was funny and also shed light on the Great Klingon Tribble Hunt.
 
I thought it was funny too but it has ZERO to do with Discovery so I don't see why some people are using it as a way to complain about that show
 
After watching the first 2 episodes of Picard I finally decided to watch season 2 of STD even though I absolutely hated season 1. I had decided not to watch season 2 based on what people were saying about it and that it was really bad. I quess this was a case where I needed to make up my own mind instead of going by what others said as I actually enjoyed it and I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm actually looking forward to season 3. It appeared to me they really tried to fix a lot of the crap that happened in the first season. The decision to punt them forward in time, which really should have been done to begin with, well past any other Star Trek means they really don't have to worry about canon.

I'm not sure if anyone already mentioned this, but I just saw something about Star Trek: Enterprise that was posted years ago on Trek BBS by a user named "Skywalker." It said that "UPN was nervous about ENT being set in Trek's past, and they told B&B to incorporate a time travel aspect, so that they could move the show into the future in case the prequel concept bombed."
I tried to do a little searching to see if this was true, but I couldn't find any corroboration. Still, it's interesting that this is exactly what happened with Star Trek: Discovery.
 
Yes, I'm 100% doing this to dump on STD. And yes, I'm intentionally calling it STD because this new season does look like this disease hasn't been cured.

The latest trailer makes season 3 look so incredibly unappealing, I have absolutely no clue what fans see in this. But that's fine, like it. My only issue is it should not be called Star Trek. Take that away, and just call it: Cries and Hugs in Space.

The premiss that a 1000-year-old ship (technologically speaking) crewed by people with no clue of the nature of the time they will be in, will obviously become some pivotal force to bring back a return to what we know as Star Trek, is absurd.

With all due respect to Monkeys, it would be like someone from the dark ages stepped into our time and tried to make things "right". Fight the good fight. They would be as useful as monkeys to us. Seriously. They may as well just spend the day masturbating and flinging **** around because that would be as helpful as their intellect and mentality would be to us.

I know I'm being judgemental. However I am basing that on 2 seasons of cries and hugs, and a new trailer for season 3, that clearly shows cries and hugs in one scene, and let's not forget Burnham's ******* monologues.

Will I actually cave in and watch this season do to some misguided hope it maaaaaaaaaaaaay resemble Star Trek at some point? Or to at least have an informed opinion? I don't know. I may. But for the first time ever in Star Trek being on TV, I may not. Because it's NOT ******* STAR TREK.

Burhnam is the mother ******* key to the past, present and future. Just **** me, what a stupid premise. Besides, Picard was the key to the past, present, and future. After all (All Good Things) must come to an end. And they did.

There are some great examples of why all other trek is better in that channel. But the author of these videos has a serious inferiority complex. There are too many horseshite videos highlighting issues he as with just women in scenes, or the sensitivity he feels when a white man is apparently being suggested to be inferior.

THOSE attitudes are not what Star Trek is about. I would not give this person the satisfaction of pushing up his youtube stats any further than I did.

Ps: Discovery and Picard are still inferiour to all past Trek, and there are far more great examples of why, without the nonsense of this youtube author.
 
I like all of his videos that I've seen and I think the comparisons he makes are quite true, however, the list of how new Trek is different from old Trek is endless, so after a certain point the effort he puts in seems futile. Best thing I can do personally, is just rewatch the old Trek I love, and remember how it was infinitely better than the new stuff(same with Star Wars). My frustration mostly comes from scratching my head thinking, is it really possible they can't recapture the magic of previous series? Isn't it possible to have characters who aren't constantly trying to 'one-up' each other? There's absolutely zero friendship development in the new Trek. No scenes where the writers go out of their way to add little moments, here and there, where characters bond and attempt to find what they share in common. What seems to be missing from the production staff are people who are actually professional writers and specialize in telling a proper cohesive story, instead of hoping it will all come together in the editing room.
 
We just finished the second season of Discovery, and really enjoy it for the most part. It's a lot heavier on drama and ongoing conflicts than previous Treks, which is kind of interesting. Instead of one-off character episodes everyone gets a nice long arc over the course of the season.
Pike is great.
Ash Tyler I can do without.
Stamets is endlessly entertaining.
Saru and the Kelpians are a fun addition.
Not keen on how they keep messing with Klingon physiology, but whatever.
Excited for season 3
 
Wow... So much hate for this show, i bought season 1 and 2 of Discovery and i LOVE it. I love the character interactions, the special effects, the editing... Probably just my opinion, but damn guys... I dont understand the hate.

Granted the CBS ALL ACCESS streaming thing is crap, like Disney +, apple + discovery go, and every other one.... Everybody just gotta make more and more money. Its all about whos got more gold coins in their money bins to swim in...

Ive never been a fan of that way of thinking, and I hope all the hate for this show is subconsiously cintrolled for your distates of the grab-for-$$$, but you guys should really watch this show for what it is.

I saw the original star trek (personally; not my cup of tea). The next generatiin: I hate Picard because hes such a crimunal and a bad captain (and no one seems to notice but me) but i overall liked TNG. I thought voyager was good (nice to see a Professional captain for a change), and Enterprise was good (low quality special effects and directing are its only downfalls IMO) then you had the success and quality of the Star Trek 2000s movies which drove the quality of Discovery, and made it such a good looking (and written) show.

Seriously, watch the show again. Delete the hate from your minds, pretend you never saw anything 'star trek' related in your lives, and watch the show through my eyes. Too much hate guys, damn. This show is actually really good.
