Star Trek Beyond

You know the people making this movie have no clue about what they're doing when they use music like that in a trailer. Everyone at Paramount should be fired over the last 3 trek movies. This is why I have no faith in that hack Abrams making a Star Wars film, everything he touches turns to crap.

I don't think everything he touches turns to crap. I actually liked 1 and 2, but in my defense am not a big fan of the original Trek series. I didn't say I don't think it's good or anything, just not a big fan.

HOWEVER...... I think Lin was a bad choice and this movie looks like crap.

So there ya go.... non trek fan who liked the other 2 newer movies not feeling the 3rd one.

That can't be good, right? Hahah

WHAT the hell was THAT! :lol

Been asking myself that for the past hour :facepalm

I watched the trailer and immediately texted my husband with "Da FUQ did I just watch?!"

It might not be as "generic sci-fi action movie number 3" as this trailer makes it look (the fact that Simon Pegg took over writing duties still gives me a modicum of hope), but good gods, that was a crap trailer. :(

Anniversaries. Star Trek's history has shown that they're kind of a big deal for the franchise. Had it not been for Star Trek's 25th Anniversary in 1991, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier would most likely have been the last film to feature the original crew. So when everyone was making a big deal that this very important science fiction franchise was approaching it's 25th Anniversary, Paramount semi-reclusively green lit one more movie with such little interest that they gave it the same budget as the last one, despite a lot of advancements having occurred in the field of special effects since V. Well, that marketing department that was once chastised by Star Trek's own producers for giving away too much ("The DEATH of Enterprise! And we cried. We almost cried.") gave us a teaser that said it all.

"For one quarter of a century, they have thrilled us with their adventures, amazed us with their discoveries, and inspired us with their courage. Their ship has journeyed beyond imagination; her name has become legend; her crew, the finest ever assembled. We have traveled beside them from one corner of the galaxy to the other. They have been our guides, our protectors, and our friends. Now you are invited to join them for one last adventure. For at the end of history lies the Undiscovered Country."

*Star Trek Theme by Alexander Courage plays as the Enterprise jumps into Warp Drive*

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

*One more time on the Star Trek Theme!*

And now, at the half century mark...

*Sabotage plays with footage of the Enterprise being destroyed and a lot of random nonsense with no recognizable Star Trek music*

BEYOND

...Oh, STAR TREK BEYOND

A teaser that cared, and a teaser that couldn't give less of a crap what it is. Like the title, the fact that it's Star Trek is shown like it's an after thought.

It truly is a terrible toned trailer. The music selection was absolutely horrible to represent the franchise like that. I know it was used in the 1st of the new films, but for this trailer... I would have never used that.

**** edit******

Well looks like some people enjoyed the heck out of it.... They probably represent the average movie viewer demographic target audience that doesn't know Star Trek much from what it looks like:

I have high hopes for this film. Only because it's on a new planet, new aliens, and looks original. Yes, the Enterprise gets destroyed.....again.......but I really liked the first JJ Trek. Second one.....well....although well intended, not well translated. The feel is different, but you have to think. It's a new age of Star Trek, with a little old here and there and the attempt to grab the general movie goers attention. So fight scenes, explosions, it's all going to be there. We can only hope there is some good substance to this one since the director is a ST fan as well as Pegg who has been an advocate for an original story and moving forward.

Edit: And a disclaimer, I've been a Star Trek fan since I was a kid. Began with the original series and worked my way forward. I was the type to never let go of the original cast. Even when the next generation came into the scene, I didn't care for it. Maybe it's the bit of head nods or tip of the hat to the originals. Or maybe just having James Kirk and crew on screen again is enough for me, but I like the styling, just hope it's more then stunts and fights. I know there will be a lot, I just want a good original story for Star Trek.

And those are exactly the people Paramount wanted to attract with the Trek reboot. They don't want only the fans of the previous Trek incarnations to see these movies, they want to attract people (or, more specifically, their money) who either don't like Star Trek, have never seen Star Trek, or don't really care one way or the other as long as they're entertained.

I asked two men in their twenties if they had seen the trailer and they both loved it.

Don't pity people for enjoying something that you do not.

In your opinion.

I am 46, I watched the originals, the cartoons, and all the series that followed, and in my opinion, star trek has never been so alive.

And mutliracial crew aside, without looking at the world through trek coloured glasses, what did TOS do that was that original?

Made thoughtful Sci Fi accessible and relevant to the masses. SO relevant in fact it inspired some people to try to make that vision possible someday.

Remember infinite diversity in infiltrate combinations?

To me that doesn't mean things have to stay exactly the same for 50 years, if anything, it means the opposite.

People talk about being inspired by the series, which is fair enough, but if you are trying to tell me people were inspired by the original films, and not these ones, then I am going to call BS.

Again they chose TOS to base these reboots on, so for some TOS fans, we expect at least some intellectual payload to come with that. I'm sure that is understandable and relatable?

Operative word being "some".

But of course, most trailers for films put in the intellectual payload into the trailers right?

You are right about IDIC but I think it is to early to tell about people being inspired by the latest round of reboots.

I'm 54 and I Cycle and hang around a young crowd and they have NO interest in trek what so ever which kills me! :lol
