I wanted to get a quick update in for everyone. Had a bit of a busy day today. I was happily peeling apart my half-made projector mold and noticed that my divider wall had torn some of the paint off in a couple spots. I'd have taken a picture but I immediately went into repair mode. So I spent a good deal of time repairing the projector while trying not to lose the mold work I had so far. I think it worked out but we'll see tomorrow.

I demolded the helmet prototype and everything went swimmingly. Here's a quick snap of the mold out of the mother. Excuse the messy workspace, I've got about nine things in various states of "going" right now.

Anyway, got her all cleaned up and preened, so I had to give her a test run. Voila! Looks good!

I'm very happy. I've made a few molds of this helmet already, and after a couple changes to the prototype, I decided to do another. I'm glad I did because this is by FAR the best one yet. I went a little light on resin since this cast was basically cleaning out some stubborn prototype funk, but it looks great. I need to give it a thorough look-see in the morning once I've got fresh eyes, but a preliminary glance through half-asleep eyes says it checks out. No noticeable dents or divots, and only a small handful of bubbles or pimples to mess with. Yay! Hurray! I'm going to bed.

Hey grudge, I’m pulling casts and finishing the projector mold (which is feeling a little neglected) as we speak. I’m hoping to get shipments started on Thursday. I’m waiting for my order of lenses to come in and I haven’t been given an ETA or tracking info. But it should be any day, and I’ve got greeblies to keep me busy until then. I’ll start PMing once a helmet and/or projector is ready to ship. Getting super close!

Woo! Thanks for the update! Was only asking cause this will be my first time prepping a kit and I have a con Dec 13th, haha. Was just seeing if I was going to have enough time to finish it out.

If it matters, Mark and I don't need lenses, as I'll be laser cutting ours myself.

Quick update. How is it 1 am already?? I wanted to have this posted in the afternoon but just got to sit down with a beer at my computer. Oh and thanks Risu!

Lenses are here! Just came in the mail today (except for Risu and Marks ;)), which means that I can start getting helmets packaged up and shipped out. I MIGHT be able to get a few out tomorrow (Sat.) but for the most part shipments will start Monday. I'm hoping to get the run cast this weekend, but it's tough to get a lot of pulls in a day with set times, then cleaning the mold, drying, blah blah. Anyway, I'm hustling here, I know you guys have been patient, thanks for that. Here's a snap of the mold boxes I made for the small parts.

Well, just picture it pink and the reverse of that I guess. Anyway, that's fun. Here's a couple terrible pictures of what another part of my workspace looks like.

She doesn't help a whole lot but that's okay, she doesn't get paid either. Okay, that's about enough for today. Time to finish this beer and hit the hay. I'll let you all know what's going on with the shipping. Might be a little tight to get boxes packed and run to the PO tomorrow, but I'll PM you when yours is ready to go.

Oh whoops I meant to post this too. Finally got a pull out of my projector mold. Heck yeah! Feels good. Strangely, the detail rubber coat on the front, projection side of the mold didn't adhere to the subsequent layers of silicone for some reason. So the ribbed texture is only on some spots of the end face, and the rest is smoother. Odd. Kind of a pain in the butt but that's the part that's gonna get modded the most I imagine so not too bad. Plus we're not too sure what it looks like anyway. But the cast came out very clean with just a bit of flash and seams to clean up.

Heck yes. It's awesome to have a hollow version to mess around with. Okay, now to keep focused and NOT mess with this until the runs are cast!

The pic of the projector isn't showing for me. :(

I'm super excited to get my helmet but I know with Christmas coming up that I won't even have time to start on it until the new year so I'm in no rush (and the first convention I might wear it to is in May, so I have time!). They're looking great!

Also, I love your shop assistant! What an adorable face! :D
