Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

What color do people think is best for the straps? These are some available from the company.

I'm leaning towards 2.

I'm leaning towards 2.

I'm gonna go with 7 or at least 4.
I'm pretty sure the straps are supposed to be a little darker than 2.

Ok, more pictures:
Small black cord on the top of the small strap on the left is not there at the moment. I have some cord, just haven't added it. Also, should this be a snap or rivet on the strap?:

And I just noticed something about this strap.
I don't know if it's a snap or rivet, but I think it's fixed upside down.

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

It's hard to tell the color based on how weathered the straps are. Number 2 would take a lot of effort to bring it to the weathered color. Number 4 would be a lot easier to match and probably wear really well naturally. My vote is 4.

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

I would say 7 as well. With some weathering, 7 can look closer to 4

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

Looks like a pretty dark strap, so I'd say 7 or 4.

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

Anyone know a good source of the right size/shape D-Rings?

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

Ok, here's the top contender for the strap leather so far, I told them #7 as a goal. What do you think?

And here is the design as I have it for the longer strap. PLEASE give input if you have any regarding length/shapes.

Color looks good to me.
However, I was always assumend the strap leather for Star Lord bag was more like the ones people use for stuffs like a belt.
I may be wrong about this and that piece of leather could actually be thicker than it looks.
But I think the strap leather should be thicker than this.

I'm still concerned about the strap length and how the bag will sit on someone as short as myself. I'm 5' 4".

If that's a movie accurate length then the bag might sit very low, since that is sized for someone 6' 2".

Since I'm 6'2" and measured it on myself... Yep. If anyone can come up with a good strong design using snaps, I'm open to it!

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

I would think the best solution would be to have a strap custom-made for someone that needs it to be shorter.

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

The person who will actually be using the one I'm buying is 5'5" so its a little on the long side but I understand an adjustable strap is not really an option based on the design of the bag. Maybe offering 3 sizes of strap would be something that could work. 5'4" - 5'7", 5'8 - 5'11", 6' - 6'3" etc.

It would be, but I am not sure how the manufacturers feel about this (I can ask) and I know it makes it more complicated for me AND them, having to make them differently, label them, keep them separate and organized etc. Not saying it can't happen, just that it's definitely more work.

The design is part of the problem, yes. What do you shorten? The front strap? The back strap? Does the shoulder pad get shortened? If the back is shorter, do the flat studs get smooshed closer together? Do you take length off the wide part, the narrow part, or both? :/ Like I said, if someone has a good (and specific) idea, I'm very open to it!

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

I would take a little off the short strap and a little from the back side of the long strap. Keep anything with rivets/studs exactly the same and take from areas that are plain. It needs to look correct and to scale on the person wearing it. Taking a inch from a long straight piece with no discernable detail is really the only way to do it. I'll get on my computer in a bit to highlight exactly where to take from.

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

This is what I came up with for sizing solutions. Red lines indicate where the size difference is cut from. Leaving all else alone this would be the place to remove material to make it shorter without changing the way the piece looks overall.

2 sizes of each strap. If you need it shorter, pick option B/D, medium A/D or B/C depending on preference, longer A/C. Sizes are just approximations (guesses), I haven't measured anything, I just included them for general reference.
