Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

So any word on whether or not production was finished "Friday or Monday," or are there more delays?

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

I'm sure it will be worth the wait :) I would rather it be done right and take a bit more time :)

My contact tells me that they are "almost finished" and that they will send photos of everything complete tonight. I'll post them here!!

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

Medium strap length is now sold out. There is 1 small strap size still available. After that, only the large will be left. I will be working on an idea to shorten the strap, but no promises it will work well.

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

After inexplicably sitting around not moving for 4 days (I was told it was because DHL was super busy with all of the holiday shopping rushes), the bags have finally arrived. More details, photos, and shipping timing to come soon!

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

Perfect timing for me right now. Getting my lightsaber from korbanth and my star lord bag from you. It's going to be a good Christmas.

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

Ok, more and better photos later still, but here's a bit of an update.
The Good:
The bags are here! Yay! I'll start finishing them (adding the black cord, attaching the buckle) and shipping them ASAP.
They got some great D rings on them.
Overall, I'm very happy with them.

The Bad:
There is one thing that REALLY I wasn't happy about. I don't know how you all will feel, I imagine it will range from "I don't really care" to "this is the worst and I want a refund."
They installed the snaps backwards. All of them.

It's the correct snaps, but they're backwards.

I'm super annoyed and I chewed them out a good amount. But it's pretty much permanent. There's not really a way to take them out or replace them. So if anyone falls into the "I want a refund" category, PM me. If you are elsewhere on the scale but are still disappointed enough that you feel the need to PM me, please do so.

The Ugly:

Here is a pretty close edit showing the color of the panels under bright light:

Some of you may think that's too bright orange. Maybe it is. I plan to experiment changing the color a bit with alcohol inks.

Also, I'll have to make some cuts in the leather straps to get the buckles on. It will be 100% invisible while wearing the bag.

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

Honestly I think it's fine. The colors, the snaps, I'm good with it. I can fix the colors with weathering and drill out the snaps to replace them, which I probably won't do. Awaiting my shipment patiently. Thanks for all the hard work getting these done. I've been following your research thread for a while so I know how much time and effort you've put into this.

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

Is there some sort of cap or something we can glue over the snaps to correct the look?

How would you go about dying those panels if you find an acceptable color/product? Can they be removed from the bag to do so?

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

If I decide to experiment at all with mine I'll take some pics for everyone.
If there are any scraps or samples the factory might still have or you have zlurpo I would be interested in getting my hands on some. If not I understand but I'm going to be distressing the bag and would like to get in a practice round beforehand.

I will look into some snap covers. I suspect something out there is perfect. I have a few ideas of where to look.

To change the color, my first idea is to airbrush on a mushroom-colored alcohol ink, then wipe it before it dries on top of the screen printing. Maybe a bit or rust color too, if it needs it. I know that not everyone has access to an airbrush, though, so I'll see what everyone-friendly things I can come up with too. I'm thinking diluted acrylic paint and a sponge might actually work fairly well. The panels are riveted on though, so they can't be removed.

Sorry, no extras. I'll see if they have any scraps left they can send me.

Re: Star-Lord Bag, professionally made (pic heavy!)

Ok, so the manufacturers are going to send me plenty of hardware that I can use to glue over the snaps to give it the accurate look. I'm thinking a little JB Weld might be strong enough to make that permanent.

Unfortunately, there were no leftover pieces of fabric that they kept. I'll still do testing on my own bag and pass along anything I come up with.

The buckles have now all been attached, along with the black cord. So I'll be able to start shipping in the next few days (gotta get all the boxes and pack all of them and make sure I get everyone the correct size).
