ST:TMP Klingon costume pics and info...

Very nice uniform, Toq.

I am certain that I will be making the TMP version headspines. I dug out my old headcast from some years ago and cleaned it up the other day. I'll be doing something likely in the form of a baldcap with spines down to about mid nose. On the TMP Klingons, it looks like their appliances completely covered the nose, but I don't want to quite do that this time. Sometime soon I'll start sculpting it and I'll post some pics when I have something to show. My progress on this project hit a slow point right now though, as we have some issues going on that are requiring extra attention. :(

I understand. I was always partial to Klingons, even in TOS, and when TMP came out I said to myself "so that's what Klingons were supposed to look like", and it was settled in my mind. What came afterwards was never satisfying to me, though I liked the variety in The Undiscovered Country. BTW, TUD is probably my favorite Trek film, along with TWOK.

...As you can see, I prefer a SuvwI', Warrior appearance from TNG/DS9 and later rather than TMP. However, it was this film which paved the way to how we regard Imperial Klingons...

Thems some nice boots!

Greetings members,

I noticed the discussion on Klingon Warrior costuming. In particular which style of service boots are desired over another and the proper color of leather used for the service vest. I have included an overall image of my uniform with some detailed images of my version of the service boots. I stand ready to answer any questions or comments that you may produce.

Anyone have any work-in-progress pics of their uniforms/prosthetics? I'll probably start on my headspine this week.

Well, foam is better, and I have plenty of foam-running experience, but I may try a raw latex version first... something more durable. Fine edges are still possible in raw latex.

Whatever you decide...I just think it would be nice if we had that sort of uniform TMP appearance. Im going to do a kind of TMP era Kruge style/hybrid.
I may see if I can get Sgt Fang to do the baldric for me.

I agree completely. And I'd also love one of his baldrics... I'm planning to model my uniform on the Mark Lenard commander's uniform. Maybe if you or Sgt. like what I do for the head appliance we could work out some sort of trade of services, or what have you...? Though I'd be happy to pay, too.

Ghost Host,

I too would be interested in a raw latex version of a TMP ridge.

Do you have any pics of Sgt. Fang's sashes? This is one item of kit I've been searching for for awhile. Thus far, I've not seen any that come close to the quality I would require. I've contacted him concerning a separate quality Klingon prop issue but without a reply so far.

Best regards,

Ok sure. If you like what I make I'll be happy to make a few more. I started roughing the form in this morning. Never sculpted an appliance in Sculpey before, but I had it on hand and thought I'd try it.

Ghost Host, An excellent beginning. Already I can see this is going to be a nice ridge.
By the way, a few months back you were discussing with Sgt Fang, Onigiri on this thread about canon baldrics or otherwise known as Warrior sashes. Did that ever get off the ground?
This is one item of kit that I've yet to procure. Thus far, I've not seen any constructed examples that I thought were canon enough for my own presentation.
As as been discussed, q'IDar, Sue M. constructed my uniform. One item that is lacking and readily admitted by her is the lack of quality spines for my vest. I'm using nice ones cut from leather but still only leather.
Thoughts?

Thanks. Looking at my references, it looks like there were a few variations of the ridge, taller and more pronounced (Mark Lenard style), more shallow, etc. I am leaning towards the Mark Lenard version. It just looks the best to me. Regarding the baldric, I thought I had seen an example of Fang's work in some of the photos he'd posted. I don't recall for sure; but anyway, he seemed fairly knowledgeable about what was used to make the original one in TMP. I have confidence in his work if he offers to do any. But I have nothing conclusive to report, otherwise.

Whoa. That's the first photo I've ever seen of the Klingon Captain that actually resembles Mark Lenard.

This is my favorite portrayal of the klingons and I'm so glad you were able to find these photos. Scary stuff these klingons were when I was just a little child!
