SS Probe Droid stop motion legs.

Lee, Superb-amundo !!(y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Even though I don't have a droid, I would just like some of those legs..:cool

Big thanks ALL of you, means a lot. Phil there really not that hard to do, its just VERY tedious and frustrating at times, but, just completing one that works well, spurs you on.
I wouldnt want to be building these much longer though, ive much to do myself.
It is a shame they cant be cast, i really dont think it would work, you could maybe cast the main leg channels as separate parts, but then what to do with the joints?
In a perfect world, the joint "discs" or "rings" would be maybe machined plexi, with a perfect centre hole for a pinch bolt, but that really works out stupid expensive, and i can achieve the same result from stock media now, for a quarter of the price of machining them, just takes up more time.

Awesome! As for the color,I saw the probe droid prop in the past.it looked lke grey.I think it depends on what you have seen before you see the model or what color is next to it.

Thank you Kaoru san. Yeah, its grey, but its orange/brown too as it sits today, what ILM shot over that grey is beyond me, its drove me and Guy nuts.
Mine is actually more grey now, been tinkering with VERY light mist coats, and im a lot happier than i was.

Cut the dampers today for this big leg, so ill get those fitted tomorrow, and onto the next.

Ill be adding the claws and pincers last, as there just simple jobs now the joints are working out better for me.

OK, not the update id hoped for, just really slammed this past couple of weeks.
Anyhoo, third leg is now well underway (almost done really), so i think i can get this one wrapped up next sunday, attach the dampers to leg two, and were about halfway.
Really want to get these done soon, so need to up my game in the next few weeks.

New update on leg two. Forgive me if i babble, was really tired when i shot the vid lol.
Decided to build the top Saturn V joint a little different this time out, i had my own little mishap with my own droid, and didnt want a repeat occurrence with this set, hence its very strong now, still a learning curve, but its coming along slowly.

Only just noticed how grey my droid is in the vid, wow, these things really change hue at the drop of a hat.

This is simply AWESOME!!!! (y)thumbsup Love it!

The Probe Droid is my favorite droid from the saga. And besides that I'm an Imperial collector :) You did a superb job on it

While the cutting mat isnt cannon, i think it adds additional padding to the overall job, gotta make it look like this really is hard work lads lol.

Still bumbling along, added the mouting points today, needed to know if they would work, and it was a bad day to start cutting more joints lol.
These are cut from 5mm plexi, then i polished up the edges by mounting them in my drill, and spinning it up against some fine flatting paper, worked out OK.

Now, you just KNOW im going to recreate that pic in Chronicles for my new avatar huh?

bests.......lee

Thanks guys, ill get the dampers on today if it kills me lol, wanna crack on with leg four as well.
Ive had to make a few tweaks that are a tad innaccurate, as my client is fitting the donors to these, and some of those donors are a bit "structural" but, once applied, will hide the styrene joint supports anyway, so no biggie.
