So, I was checking out Tokyo Shock's nice new DVD transfer of Zeiram and spotted this on Iria's gun rack:

Can anyone ID the maker? Perhaps I can add it to my collection of Zeiram props :)

The ridge line accross the top makes it look like a Rick Ross PKD. Their aren't enough details seen to make a full ID.

The long, slim-looking grips made one of these immediately come to mind:

Of course, I have no idea who made this blaster, it's just a pic I had floating around in my HD... :unsure

Haven't seen that one before...

I was thinking maybe a Marco? I'm sure I've seen that 'tube'-like grip somewhere before...

The capture is really fuzzy, but that gun looks a lot like the one pictured in Hobby Japan Extra -Best of scifi characters- Autumn 93.

In the article talking about the construction of the gun, they knew already it was based on the Steyr SSG rifle and a Charter Arms revolver. Sadly the text is all japanese and I can't understand a thing.

To me this was the most accurate repro of the gun (I bought the magazine in 93) untill Rich and Phil made their study.

Sadly I have no scanner.

That would make sense, if it's of Japanese origin. The gun in on a rack of weapons in the background, and isn't discernible at all in the previous DVD release.

Yes you're right, years and origin coincide more or less. And that is why it probably came in to my mind so quick.I knew Zeiram was a japanese movie ... do you have the fewture Iria model kit,it's simply amazing

BTW you got a sharp eye , Birdie.

Nice looking blaster. I love the grips without checkering and they look like they would accomodate a large sized hand.

It's funny how this blaster got the butt plate correct in that it curves with the back of teh grips.

I ruled out the PKD because of the wood grain grips anyway. It is too accurate for a Marco. The one in hobby Japan is a one off made from a BB gun. If someone need scans of the BR gun pages let me know( I need them translated too). There were at the time of this movie mainly guns made from the stunt blasters including pre C&S coyles. There seemed to be a few Japanese kits that came close like the AdVen gun. Other kits it could be are collectors armory and starline. I still have very little info on their production Time period though. If the ridge on the top of the steyr reciever is just a reflection then it could be an early coyle or "stunt"(even screen used)

andy

the above kit also reminds me of this collectors armory kit...

Here are scans of the pages in the Autumn '93 Hobby Japan mentioned earlier. They do mention the Steyr Model SL and Charter Arms Bulldog in one photo caption, but proceed to show the incorrect Model SSG and a Smith & Wesson revolver in other photos:

This guy is finally ID'd, In talking to Morgan13 about BR gun Replica's we figured out this was based on his Build he traded to Universal Armor in 1993. Hopefully he can chime in to tell the rest of the story. I now have one more for the timeline that I can cross of the "Unknown" list.
