Spirit Halloween Jurassic Park Goggles

Even limited to just imagery, the Paragon product appears notably superior...

I couldn't be more comfortable with my purchase.

And it completes my Paragon JP collection!

It's perfectly fair, but it doesn't feel like it. The "very discerning clientele" and the "cheap cosplay" demographics are covered, but not the vast majority of prop collectors. No one likes to feel left out. And casual visitors to Spirit looking to throw together a costume won't be buying this at $150. Most of them won't even recognize it.

Well, I'll tell ya what. If I can help you in any way, hit me up by PM. I'll direct you to upcoming sales or even make one up for you if I have to!
Let me know what you like, I'll look out for you.

That said, I've been on this forum for almost 30 years. Yeah, yeah, old, I know. There would be no Paragon if not for the RPF, so that offer is open to anyone. If anyone wants a little special attention, call me PM me, whatever. I got you.

LOL I've seen the 10% Paragon sales. Ninety percent of impossible to afford is still impossible to afford.

All great points.
Ry, I appreciate you chiming in here. You know you don’t have to defend the Paragon Goggles. Any moron with half a brain can tell the difference between the toy and a museum quality piece.
Now, let me take a minute to defend my position. I suppose I justify how much I spend by how much I enjoy the franchise. Don’t get me wrong, I like JP very much, but I don’t love it. Now take my buddy Tony. It’s his top favorite franchise. HE is Paragons target audience, not me. All I want is a fun toy to play with. If a kid comes over and accidentally breaks it, I won’t cry.

Now, if it were MiB, well, Armando would be shelling out the big bucks.

Heard, bro. All good. Like I said, they check a box. I think they're fun; just drawing the hard line between the two is all.

Don't get me wrong, I have respect for what you do and the attention to quality that you apply to it.

It just sucks to be smack middle in the "hard line between the two", as I believe most prop collectors will be.

I'm not whining about capitalism and the cost of things. I'm whining about the fact that TWO manufacturers now have failed to answer the call that I believe MOST of interested prop collectors have been making. One manufacturer makes the best for the few. One makes overpriced toys for the cosplayers. But there's a big fat majority in the middle who are once again ignored.

Money on the table.

Honestly as someone who has loved JP since it came out when I was 10, I could and would never spend $500+ on goggles. These spirit ones are the only way I’d ever get a pair.

And I think calling them happy meal goggles is a bit disingenuous. They could have went a lot cheaper with these, like some of the Rubies accessories. They could have had no electronics or just LEDs. But they went all out and made the rings turn, the lenses extend, the covers flip up, they did a pretty damn good job on a budget piece.

Yes they’re two very different things. And I’m glad both exist. But give credit where it’s due. I’m glad stuff like Black series helmets and stuff like this exist.

I think with a bit of elbow greese the spirit goggles could be great replicas. People here have done a lot more with a lot less to start with. Options are good, and competition makes companies do better,

There were literally Burger King goggles. So that bumps Spirit's goggles to mid-tier by default. Problem solved :p

But I think the mid-tier is filled by the DIY/maker community, like this forum (project runs), modders improving on an existing item, or 3D designers on thingiverse. It just means it's less accessible than an off-the-shelf item, because the market hasn't been tapped yet. Or because of the balance between supply/demand and licensing rights, as was stated before. The middle-ground doesn't make money like the cheap version, and the detailed option will cost more. That's Capitalism, baby!

Same thing with the cryocans. You can print and slap a label on a store-bought can for cheap. If you want more, you can buy/print a replica can in lots of places, with varied levels of detail. Or go all-out on the Paragon can. But if you try and make a version to please a crowd, you will always upset someone.

I do like the motorized goggles tho! It still baffles me the ones from Paragon don't have this with that price point. Even tho the mold is beautiful, it's a shame that this feature isn't on. At the end of the day it's static lights on a 3 piece plastic. I'd have bought them in a heartbeat if they were around $300 but $800 is a bit out of my price range sadly. I might cave in someday, but yeap I guess lots of people will have to settle for the SP ones haha.

Wow the Paragon ones arent fully functional? Geeze, I assumed it was at that price. Then yeah Spirit wins big for that.

Make or break on the cane is if the mosquito is 3d or 2d.

Agreed, if anything at least the shaft could be usable with a replacement amber piece. It does say its metal with polyresin, so it should be strong. Probably has a metal rod throughout. Given how detailed the mosquito looks, im gonna guess its a 2d print on some clear plastic.

At the end of the day 1 is a fun "toy" that takes zero screen accuracy into account, while the other is a perfect "replica" that gives you what you see on screen at a specific price point.

there does exist a 3rd option....the one where you make it yourself to how you you want it. The DIY happy path.

My two cents lol

Personally I'll be starting with the Spirit goggles and upgrading them from there with padding, screws, repaint, decals, brass rings etc to get it as close as possible. It's a great starting point. Same goes for the cane.

Additional note, some stores are now open, I’ll be interested to see if this or the cane show up in actual stores or if they’ll only be online. I know some bigger things like their proton pack were not readily available in stores.

Good points...

Rhetorical Question (to add perspective): Does the 501st accept Black Series helmets?
