SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (Suit Finished!!! Skateboard Pics! 11/1/12)

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (UPDATE: Gloves 10/14/12 page 5)

Thanks everyone! :D

yea man there the lenses from the spiderglasses doing all the honey comb in puff paint and im using tulip puff paint and yea i am wearing a face shell lol and the spray paint i used was the cheap dollar ones from wal mart

Oh ok, awesome dude! Had you already puff painted the honeycomb in that pic? It looks really good! Ha, that's the same paint I'm using, I was just asking because your honeycomb appeared to be much more shiny than mine, but if you puff painted it that explains that.

Loving your work!
Just a quick question, how long did it take for your honeycomb spraypaint and puff paint to dry? Im using these methods too cos its genius and non budget damaging (and its so simple, which is good for a beginner like me!)

The spray paint dries in about 10 minutes, the puff paint on the other had takes about 3-4 hours to be fully dry.
Glad I could help you out with my ideas! :)

I just finished up the last of the puff painting. Now all I have to do is let that dry, do all the honeycomb on the blue, do those long seam-ish looking lines going down the blue sections, and make web shooters and I'll be done!

I'll probably put the suit on tonight and take some good pictures of it before I start honeycombing the blue.

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (UPDATE: Gloves 10/14/12 page 5)

Well I've got some pictures, but not good pictures. Crappy camera and bad lighting. But sadly that was the best lit place in my house. These really don't do the suit justice. When the suit is finished I'll borrow a good camera and take some pics outside during the day so that all of you can get a good look at it.

But anyway, here they are. I promise the honeycomb actually shows up in person. And I think the black on blue honeycomb will really pop.

Oh btw, compression shorts and 3 layers of duck tape makes Spider-Man much more modest... ;)

The suit looks great. You can kind of see texture on the red. The black webbing really pops. Can't wait to see the black honeycomb done. That will really take this suit to the next level.
Question though. Doesn't it bother you that the webbing on the mask doesn't line up?
greets,

Yes, it does bother me that the webs don't line up, but there was really no way to fix it. That's just one thing you kind of have to deal with when you go the cheap zentai rout. :/

Not before Halloween, but later on I'll probably just get some red lycra and make a whole new mask from scratch. I think it would be pretty easy.
There are some other places on the suit where the webs don't line up, but those aren't anywhere near as noticeable as the jacked up lines down the middle of my forehead.

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (New Pics added 10/16/12 page 5)

Yeah maybe a red spandex balaclava? Just add webs and honeycomb and lenses.
You aren't using a face shell are you?
can't wait to start my own suit. I hope the shooters arrive soon.

Not sure about the balaclava. Those usually just have one big hole over both eyes.
No, no face shell. I was planning on getting one, but I think I might just stick with the natural look. Plus, there aren't any face shells available that match the look of TASM, in my opinion.
I think they did have some sort of shell in the movie mask, but not a big solid full face shell. I think it was just something slightly stiff but still very flexible that lined the face area on the inside of the mask.

When the blue honeycomb is applied, this suit should look really good :thumbsup

I was thinking the same. There are some promotional pics where andrew holds the mask and it looks like the mask retains his shape. I will probably try to get the same effect with foam inserts

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (New Pics added 10/16/12 page 5)

I actually like your pumas better than the movie shoes. Did the puma tail not look right on the boot?

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (New Pics added 10/16/12 page 5)

Thanks! Yeah, the tail things just made it look sort of weird, so I cut them off.

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (New Pics added 10/16/12 page 5)

How did you attach the lens frames? Did you just cram the existing ones from the mask underneath the frames and glued them into place?

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (New Pics added 10/16/12 page 5)

Looks awesome!! What glue did you use to glue the lenses to the mask?

the delux mask has a similar shell its a vacuform that goes from the nose to chin

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (New Pics added 10/16/12 page 5)

Is there anyone with pics from the deluxe mask?

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (New Pics added 10/16/12 page 5)

just out of curiosity, what method did you use for attaching the shoes/soles? seen a few different methods / different glues mentioned and im trying to see what actually holds...

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (lenses finished, shoes half way done)

I know I said i was doing web shooters next, but they got bumped down on the list because I went to the thrift store today and found some old puma running shoes that were just screaming spiderman at me! Haha, they really look nothing like the screen accurate asics, but in my opinion they look way cooler! And since most people don't even know that spiderman has shoes, I don't think anyone will notice that they are not accurate.

Here's what they looked like when I got them.

Then I cleaned them, cut off all the stuff I didn't want and started painting, I only had time to paint one today. I'm really happy with how it looks, painting the bottom took forever, but it was worth it! Even though they are not accurate, I like them way better than the asics, and they only cost me $2 as opposed to $70! Haha
I will cover up all the frayed parts around the edges of where they are cut with puff paint once they are actually attached to my suit.

What are the exact name of these pumas, I want to use your method for the shoes

Well I got the suit with open eye holes. But the holes were a bit larger than my lenses so it was a bit difficult to fit my lenses on with getting wrinkles in the mask, but I was able to do it. I glued the corners first, and then carefully glued down everything in between the corners. A bit tedious, but doable.

Looks awesome!! What glue did you use to glue the lenses to the mask?

Thanks! I used hot glue.

I used hot glue for the shoes also. I put on socks and then put on the suit so I could just press my foot into the shoes when gluing. You can't just cover the whole inside of the shoe with hot glue and press your foot in though, because the glue will dry before you cover the hole shoe, so you have to do it in sections. I started with the heel and worked my way up to the toe. And after you're done gluing you just pull your foot out of the sock and the suit, since the sock will be glued to the suit at this point from the glue seeping through the fabric. Them you have to reach your hand inside and carefully pull the sock out of the inside, because it will be pretty much impossible to get your foot back into the suit with the sock still in there.

Sadly, I have no idea. I bought them used at a thrift store, and I no longer have the inside tag to get any info off of because a cut that part of the shoes off and they it away already. I've searched online and can't find any that look like them.
