SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (Suit Finished!!! Skateboard Pics! 11/1/12)

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (Suit Finished!!! NEW PICTURES 10/29/12)

Cool wen ever i buy mu suit im not gonna puff paint only everything else but eh im lazy but DO YOU

Got some cool pics with my skateboard.

I did these boards a while back before I even started on the suit. The red one is what I actually use, and the white one is more of a replica for display purposes, I've thought about breaking it in half like Parker's, but I don't know if I want to.

Excuse the crappy quality of these two pics. They're actually screen caps from a video because I didn't have anyone to take pictures for me, ha.

Hi, I'm still kinda new here, but not new to costuming. I'm finally starting my Amazing Spider-Man suit and I will post all my progress in this thread.

I don't have my suit print yet but I will be ordering it very soon, I have to save up a bit more moneys first. But I went ahead and made my lenses just because I was in the mood to make something.

Here's how I made them:
First I sculpted the frames the best I could out of sculpy, they didn't turn out perfect but I'm happy with them.

For the mesh lenses I used the front of a crappy speaker I bought at the thrift store for $1

I cut the lenses out of it and then sanded all the black paint off of them.

Then I used a gold sharpie to color them gold, not quite as reflective as the real ones but it was quick and cheap. (as you can see, I got a little ahead of myself before I took the progress pic haha)

I cut the clear plastic off the back of a binder to use over the mesh.

I glued the plastic down around the edges of the mesh and trimmed off the excess.

I painted the frames black just using black acrylic paint.

Gave the frames a nice shiny finish, glued on the lenses, and done! :D I may add a tinted lense to the back of the mesh, I'm just gonna wait and see how they look on the suit as they are though.

They are not perfect, but I was impressed with myself for making them, I was planning to just buy some, so I saved myself a lot of money.

It took me a all day to make them (there was a lot of trial and error that I left out of my little summery haha), but now that I actually know what I'm doing I could throw together another set pretty quickly.

Next on my list is web shooters! :)

did you use a face shell for your mask?

Thanks for all the nice comments! :)

did you make new lense

Well, sort of. I just removed the clear plastic (it made my vision a little blurry) and recolored the metal mesh with a yellow sharpie instead of gold, which makes them much shinier. And I did actually make new frames because I messed them up when trying to remove the plastic. But I made the new ones using molds of the old ones, so they're the same as before.

did you use a face shell for your mask?

No, no face shell. Just my natural face shape.

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (MY SUIT ARRIVED! 2nd page Pic Heavy)

I have somewhat successfully made my detachable mask look good. It's not perfect, and I could have made it a lot better if the neck of the mask were longer, but it still looks pretty good.

I used two snaps in the back so that I can attach the mask so it doesn't come up in the back, but I can still take the whole thing off by simply unsnapping it.
when I puff paint all the webbing I will extend the webs onto the blank red part around the neck and then the mask will really blend.

here's a short video of what I've got so far, the first half of the video is just the mask to show how much more fitted I made it, and the second half shows the mask with the suit.
(sorry for the bad video quality)

And now for my honeycombing method.
Found this pot holder at walmart

I cut a rectangle out of the middle of it to be my stamp.
15.jpg

I use spray paint to coat the stamp with and then quickly press it onto the suit, it's kind of difficult to match up the pattern with each stamp, so the pattern is a little off in some places, but it's not very noticeable.
I'm using red paint on the red parts of the suit and I'll use black on the blue.

I made cardboard inserts to keep the fabric flat and slightly stretched while I stamp it. And I have to tape off the blue parts while I'm doing the red.

and here is the result:

I've only done the mask and one glove so far. I was going to try to knock out all of the red today, but it rained most of the day, and since I'm using spray paint I can't do it inside.

I think that once I get this done, especially the black on the blue, the suit is really going to start to look awesome!

can youg go explain and go a little more into detail with how you made the honeycomb pattern? how many layers did you spray it, and what spray paint did you use?

Been following this one a while. Really impressive build for the money spent. Inspired me to try the same thing! Just ordered my suit. I'll be doing some muscle shading and detail with an airbrush. Going for the battle damaged version!

Again, really inspiring build!

Feel free to say no to this one, but, are you still using the pot holder you used for the honeycombing? I checked my local stores and haven't found anything like it. Maybe if you aren't using it, you could let it go? Haha, I know that sounds weird, no hard feelings if you don't want to part with it!

I just have to say that you did an amazing job on your costume! It's made me want to go ahead and try this myself. Since watching the newest Spider-Man film that is what I've decided to be for Halloween next year, so I got a little time to start this project. lol

I do have to ask you though, where exactly did you get the suit? I've heard of the Morph suits, but never heard of a Zentai Suit. Now did yours come like that because I was googling it and didn't come across any that looked like yours. Maybe I just haven't looked hard enough?

Thanks, and again wonderful job!!!

Off the hook! I love to see it when people take things to the next level! I work in the Star Trek genre primarily and am always needing to scratch build or re purpose items. Well Done! If you ever get into building molds or casting items look me up if you need any help or advice!
