SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (Suit Finished!!! Skateboard Pics! 11/1/12)

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (I need puff paint advice. Page 4)

Dude this is awesome, I'm taking notes. Definatly saves on all the time of puff paint.

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (I need puff paint advice. Page 4)

Are you going to puff paint the back spider and the black web lines?
Just curious.

Just curious.

I am puff painting all the web lines, but not the red spider in the back.
Here's why: When you put puff paint on the suit, the fabric will still stretch but the problem is it doesn't shrink back down where the puff paint is, it just gets all loose and wavy looking. This isn't really a problem for all the red sections where the web lines are because they don't stretch very much when you move around. But the back stretches a lot when you bend over and stuff, so I'm afraid that if I puff paint it it will look really bad after a while, and I want to be able to move around and have fun in my suit, not stand like a toothpick out of fear of messing it up.

With all the work I'm putting into this suit, I want it to last me a long time.
Honestly I don't think all these awesome looking fully puff painted suits are going to look near as cool in a few months when all the puff paint stretches out.

Just my two cents on the matter. I could be wrong, but based on the tests I've done with puff paint I just don't see how a suit completely covered in it could possibly stay form fitting like it should be over time.

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (I need puff paint advice. Page 4)

Well, I caught a stomach virus... So I lost a few days of work on the suit. :unsure
But I'm feeling better and started back at it today. Finished all the red honeycomb and I've started the puff painting. I'm going to put the blue/black honeycomb on hold for now to make sure I get the puff paint done in time.

I've done the mask and the chest spider so far. The mask went pretty quick, but the chest spider took forever!

Here's the mask! I didn't puff paint the horizontal lines around the neck since that area has to stretch so much, but I'm going to color them in nice and dark with a black sharpie, and then it shouldn't be noticeable. The mask will look better on my head, I just have to leave it on my mannequin head until it dries.
Oh, and the honeycomb shows up way better in person... It's just the light and picture quality that makes it rather invisible, haha.

And here's the spider. The spider on this suit isn't very accurate, but I made some modifications to make it look a little better. And once the puff paint dries I'll paint the fabrics underneath the middle part of the spider in the gaps red.
It's not accurate, but I did the best I could with what I had to work with.
And the suit in no way looks orange in person... Once again, horrible lighting.

Well @Sparrow, if you have problems with puff paint, keep that configurations and add more web lines 'cause i've noticed some web lines irregularities. This and add the asics to complete your suit and its perfect.

Not really sure exactly what you mean...
I have added a few web lines in the chest/stomach area, where the spiders legs are and the horizontal lines just end, I fixed that and made it more accurate. I'll post pics of it later on.

I'm not using asics because I can't afford them. You can see the shoes I'm using on the first page of this thread.

Speaking of shoes, I'm probably attaching them to my suit tonight! :D I'll try to get some more progress pics up tomorrow.

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (I need puff paint advice. Page 4)

Heyo! Been following this thread for awhile now, and have finally signed up. Looking forward to implementing some of your awesome ideas to my own suit.

Cheers!

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (I need puff paint advice. Page 4)

Hey! I am still working on this suit, just haven't had a lot of time to take pics and stuff lately do to my "real life" getting in the way of my fun life where I make costumes all the time. Haha

But anyway here's somewhat of an update:
I attached my shoes! I also gave them a slightly updated paint job, changed the gold to silver and changed the color scheme on the toe a litte. And I cutt off those red stripe things, they just didn't blend well with the suit. Bottoms are the same though.

I was stupid and attached the shoes before I puff painted that section of the suit. So this is my nifty yet strange looking way I came up with to get around that problem.

Here's a really crappy shot of the shoes, sorry, I just did some puff paint on the upper legs and can't really move the suit into better light until that dries.

I did the finger tip details on the gloves. I haven't put the palm pads on my gloves yet, but they are going to have them and they are going to be real leather.

Jut have a little more puff painting to do and then I can move on to putting honeycomb on the blue parts of the suit.
Btw, I am going to putting web shooters on aswell. I have an idea for really really cheap web shooters, I'll start working on that soon and then, as always, share my idea with the lot of you.

And this has nothing to do with my suit, but I made/designed this image with an app on my iPad and I thought some of you spidey fans might like it. I have it as the wallpaper on my iPad and it looks awesome!
Feel free to download it and use it as a wallpaper or whatever, just please don't claim it as your own work or anything. :)

Dude the size of your puffpaint bottle is huge. How do you paint with that? The ones they sell here on retail contain 37 ml and look easier to handle.

On another note, The suit is coming along really nice. I will try to build the lenses and webshooters first and if that succeeds i will also buy a zentai and mod it. You are a great inspiration to a lot of members.
Also like mentioned before you look a lot like Andrew. Can't wait to see the finished suit on.

Greets,

Greets,

It's a 4oz bottle. It was cheaper to get one big bottle than it would have been to buy a bunch of little ones. I've had no problem painting with it, fits in my hand just fine.

Thanks man! Hope your build works out for you! :)

Awesome man! What brand of spray paint are you using? Your honeycomb looks really good! Are you wearing a face shell? And are those the lenses from the Spider-Man glasses?

I used hot glue for the shoes, lots and lots of hot glue, haha.
Thanks!

costuming like a boss!! nice work man!

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (UPDATE: 10/13/12 page 5)

Small update on the gloves. I finally made the palm pads.
They're not exactly SA, I just tried to get the overall look and layout the same as the real gloves.
I got the leather from a leather jacket that I bought at the thrift store a while back for like 6 bucks. I bought it specifically for the leather, that's how I always get leather when I need it because you can get a lot for super cheap.

First I cut out all the shapes from paper, and then traced them on to the back of the leather.

Cut them out.

Then painted them and hot glued them to the gloves.

Man, I really love your creativity! I am gonna try something similar to this with the pads :) Thank you for sharing with us all your progress :thumbsup

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (UPDATE: Gloves 10/14/12 page 5)

Loving your work!
Just a quick question, how long did it take for your honeycomb spraypaint and puff paint to dry? Im using these methods too cos its genius and non budget damaging (and its so simple, which is good for a beginner like me!)

Re: SpiderSparrow's TASM Build (UPDATE: Gloves 10/14/12 page 5)

This has been a fun thread to follow b/c it seems so user friendly and doable. Can't wait to see the finished product.
