Spiderman web shooter: A collaborative project.

No clue if they would/will fit or not..

if you buy me a pair.. and send them to me.. I'll check.. :)

I keep shooters...you keep pcb's! ;)

I had asked MarkPoon originally about the space in there.. and size of pcb..etc.. he didnt really offer to much in a way of an answer.. just said he didnt design the pcb.

if I had the extra scratch.. I'd buy a set... they look nice.

havent really thought about the finish on the 3d parts at all?? anyone got some suggestions? just a sandable primer?

anyone try an acetone vapor bath on their 3D parts? suppose to give them sleek/shine..

I used a combo of filler primer and red putty. I've heard of the acetone method but don't have personal experience with it.

Those are looking awesome man! I have used acetone on other plastics such add k kydex and it works great however this is much softer than kydex, so much so that vapors may melt it entirely. For the kydex you can only do one quick Swype with a little dab on your rag. I may give it a quick attempt and report back to you all.

hmm.. good point.

all articles I have read used PLA/ABS I believe...

not sure how it would on this?.. also they examples/demos I saw was NOT a rag approach at all.. but a VAPOR (no touching outside of the vapor blast/bath)

Thank epilepticsquirl-

hes the one who started the 'community' project.. and put forth the initial effort and project for everything to enjoy/share/be part of..

without that... Id be taping a pcb to my wrist! LOL

i dont know if its a bit early to post this but i have been working on a model for the 2nd web shooter, here is what i have so far, it was hard to do with the images i had,

pretty cool..

have you modeled this just to be a solid piece? any forward thought about electronics..etc..etc.?

update:

got pcb's, all components in.. and manually assembled a board this afternoon.

took two vids showing the assembled board, and the current firmware/effects

1 bare/standalone
1 mocked up in the 3D printed bezel to get a better 'feel' of it.

Notes:

1.) no red bingo chip to give a better 'look' for the demo currently
2.) 1st green led int he leds 'banks' is dead..(I think I soldered a bad one in.. or perhaps wrong polarity..but I doubt it.. I think its dead from previous 'testing')
3.) a proper bed of nails w/ pogo pins is needed to assemble more of these without wasting a ton of time and soldering/un-soldering then cleaning up the pads...etc)
4.) speaker has ZERO resonance chamber (and I doubt any will in this prop)..
5.) no low-pas filter or amp so the audio is -NOT- loud, like other (proper) props..

feedback appreciated.. on looks, feel, effects..etc anything and everything.

thanks! :)

Dude your doin a killer job with this! I'm curious on the speaker size you should put it behind the Bezel to see depth and such, i also feel that this could improve sound through better acoustics our make it worse by muffling it. I have a pretty cool Web spinning sound on my toy you might want to incorporate I'll try to get a vid in the next couple days.

Can you hear me applauding?!! Im about to shatter my window from applauding...

The progress on this thread is so legit i would believe these actually shoot webs. Whenever the ultimate final product is ready. Ill be waiting.

thanks! the video shows them working and 'done'..(well one of them)

I wouldnt have a clue on how to procede after this though.. LOL never really made stuff to 'sell'..(1 or 2 things here.. never a 'run' or whatever) usually just for my own personal projects or to learn.

I dont even know how many people would be interested..lol (the more parts ordered at once makes them cheaper).

Id also like people to feel comfortable with what they are buying.. and understand the limitations.

*I doubt people wanting to use these under a SUIT will be able to..
(not only do I not have a clue how they would mount these.. with the battery and speaker.. might be too much)

I am going to use (and tested) this battery..

small enough to fit under the leather write band for the watch style approach:
https://www.sparkfun.com/products/731

I have tested with this speaker:
Premium Speaker

sounds 'ok' at best.. (I mean you get sound.. not very loud w/o an amp)

I plan on testing this one next:
2w Mini Speaker

a smaller OD speaker..

'my' plan is to maybe make some 'sound holes' on my leather strap.. and a small liner/backing/pocket on the underside to put the speaker in..

I might be doing the same with the tiny Li_Po battery as well.. depends if it can be tucked under the web-shooter base or not.

and a switch?? whos using what? I'd like to get some FPC ones made... but I dont think I'll have time to track it all down.. and/or make my own with some thin copper and kapton...etc..

right now Im using a scavenged switch from some old lightsaber project Im sure..

I say for those 'interested' learning or having some fun.. give it a try.
its not as hard or scary as you first think. until you give it a try..

Check your local RadioShacks and see if they have any old pcb etching kits.. usually on sale or clearance.. comes with everything..

if you have access to a laser printer, some glossy photo paper and a clothes iron.. you get even better toner transfer for your traces..

update on the pcb..

fixed the first green led.. everything works as it should now..

all that is left (IMHO) is to finish the 3D parts..

electronics/pcb's/firmware is all completed.

thanks@!

Re: Spiderman web shooter: A collaborative project. Now with pretty lights!

Does anybody know how to make the leather band for the webshooter i ordered my parts already but all i need is this leather band
TRUASM6.jpg
Dude where do you get the parts?

In the JunkYard... there is a sales thread (ordered on Shapeways & 3D printed)

not sure if you can post there yet though.. (need to be member for a period of time and have a certain post count)

thanks! PM answered..

Im thinking an INT thread will go up soon in JunkYard..

so if people 'are' interested.. please let it be known when the thread goes up...

(I'll post back here when its up)

alright, I've been searching for hours and can't find any reference to a suitable pre-made leather strap. I've been staring at these unfinished shooters for months and every time I pick them up, I put them right back down because I don't have a good strap for them. I'm hesitant to just order a pair of straps on ebay until I ask around here (plus, none of them are quite as close as I'd like). any tips or leads?
