Spiderman Stealth Suit

Hi all. Found out about this site in May and since then I've been glued to it. Can't believe how much I've learned about alot of different methods. Never made a costume before. I chose Spiderman because he is my favorite superhero of all time. Since I do not trust my painting skills, I chose not to do a puff painted costume. I decided to try something easier, hence the stealth suit.

I bought a full black spandex zentai suit to start with. Also ordered some neon green spandex. Currently working on my stencils to use once the spandex comes in. Excited!

Worked on the eyes today. They did not come out as nice as I wanted them to but overall I'm pretty happy.

Basically I used some lime/neon spandex mesh. I glued them onto reflective mirror tint which I glued onto my lens frame. I made the frame using 2mm foam which I cut out in the shape that I wanted then coated them with elmer's glue then polyurethane resin. Chose this method because I was testing out things for a foam build I was considering. It worked out well enough so I kept it. They hold their shape and still allow to be bent nicely.

Also spent time making a web backpack to carry stuff in since I got no pockets in my spandex. Followed the guide that jrenemtz321 made on this site http://www.therpf.com/f9/spiderman-web-backpack-135253/
For $8 bucks, I can't complain. May remake if I ever find a better bowl then the one I used.

I also had some ideas about how I would make the goggles that the Black Cat has to wear to see me in the suit but that can wait until:
1) I get a girlfriend
2) I make a vac former
3) I get a girlfriend lol

I'm expecting my neon spandex to come in either before the weekend or sometime next week. So expect stencil cutouts soon and maybe some actual pieces sewn on.

Been a slow week since work has picked up and i've been working overtime. Although the fabric came in and I am loving it. It is not a perfect match to the eyes but I don't think it is too noticeable. Given that I couldn't think of any other material to use for eyes.

I'm basically ironing on tear away to stabilize the spandex. Tracing my stencil onto the spandex, then cutting them out.
Overall I'm pretty happy. I tried making the stencils longer than exactly what I need just in case. Pretty tempted to sew on a piece to see how it looks :D

Also sorry about lighting and picture quality. I'm no photographer and only have an iphone 4. Plus my room is a little weird on lighting and was too lazy to do anything cause it was hot.

Looking forward to see this one finished. Nice to see a different take on everybody's favourite webhead.

Dang it's been 2 weeks. Not much of an update. Work, Anime Expo, 4th of July shenanigans got in the way. All stencils came out nicely. Starting to sew everything together. Really wish I had a sewing machine and knew how to use one.
But I don't so it's going to be me hand sewing for however long it takes.

Started with the easy pieces like the feet and hands.

Next was my center piece to help determine the placements for the rest of the front.

Currently where I am at.

I've determined some problems I will have when I start the back
1) I'm going to have to cut the center pieces in half because of my down the spine zipper.
2) Determining placement is going to suck by myself, gonna need to ask a friend for some help

Besides that I think my Nike compression spandex from high school track will be useful to hide any "noticeable" crotch bulge. As for the shoes I'm taking a suggestion from a friend and planning on using some (Deadlift Slippers) on the inside and glueing some old insoles that I sharpied black on the outside. I am planning on using Lunaman's method of glueing with E6000.
The slippers are basically socks that have been glued to a rubber sole. Works really nice for deadlifting, so I'm told by my friend. They should arrive next week I think.

Overall pretty happy where this is heading. Again sorry about the pictures, I'm in the process of trying to borrow a friend's DSLR.

Looks good man! cant wait to see more!

Thanks I'll try my best. Should be smooth sailing because the hardest thing I think was figuring out the lens. Hence I didn't start on it until I made them.

I'm also planning on adding some conductive nylon thread to use on my fingers so that I can use my phone, cuz getting half undressed to use it or smacking my nose on it doesn't seem practical.

I know that feel! I got so fed up with it in my iron man that when it came to reusing the suit I decided to battle damage it and tear off a glove =P was much better after that =P

Alrighty time to end this build. After spending about two straight days working on this, I can't believe I'm done. I forgot to take pictures of attaching my soles, however I am a bit worried about the durability of the outer soles I am using and may switch to something else in the future.
To start things off, I couldn't help but try it on every time I finished a couple of pieces

Hope the quality is better. I was able to borrow my friend's dslr. However, I am still a beginner at using it but I'm learning. After finishing the suit, I made a duct tape dummy to put it on/showcase. Sadly I didn't realize it wouldn't be secure because I couldn't attach it to the base.....

Here is the area on the back that I screwed up while sewing. I kind of want to redo it but at the same time it was such a pain to sew on because the back stretches the most for me and the stupid zipper makes it hard to stretch out properly.

Here's a closeup of my web pack if anyone is interested. On the bright side it kind of blocks the messed up area lol.

Then I had to do an action shot

Thank you all for commenting and encouraging me to finish my first costume ever. Hope you enjoy it. Too bad I could not finish it in time for san diego comic con. On the bright side, I'm already thinking about other ones I want to do. If there are any questions, don't be afraid to ask. (I only bite if you want me to bwahah).

That's pretty rad dude. Especially being your first costume. I can't wait until I get mine started. Hopefully it'll be real soon :) Anyway.. I'm getting off subject. I dig the suit. Thanks for the cool thread!
