Spiderman Shoes - cutting the Uppers! Help :)

Hey all, i'm in the final process of my Spiderman Costume - making the shoes.

I'm simply trying to get the uppers separated from the soles and then to insert then into the lycra foot section, just like Lunaman did for his Ultimate Spiderman suit.

The problem i'm having is that, as soon as I cut the uppers off the soles, it loses its shape and goes all over the place inside the foot section of the suit.

Are you supposed to glue the uppers inside the foot piece? How do you make sure it retains its shape?

Thanks all!

If anyone has any suggestions on alternatives, please let me know! I may simply just use a sole and wear several pairs of socks so I have a 'shoe' shape on my foot, but I just don't want it to look tacky :D

Edit: if anyone has photos of their spidey shoes to spare, that would also be a great help. One issue I have is that, if I use the uppers, I need a bigger sole, and if I don't use uppers, I need a smaller sole as there is a noticeable gap between its edge and my heel.

What I did for my suit was that I sewn the insoles to the uppers to retain their shape. Here's the link on my progress thread: http://www.therpf.com/f78/ultimate-spider-man-suit-wip-pictures-progress-inside-205156/index2.html#post3225399

The shoe uppers lost their shape as soon as I removed the soles. So I figured I might as well sew the insoles to hopefully get the shape I was hoping for. It worked well for the shoes I used. I imagine this method may not work for other shoes though.

I hope that helps. Good luck on your build.

I did the exact same thing. I bought knockoff "Toms" shoes from Amazon (link: http://amzn.com/B00BPBSQOU), used a heat gun to free up the sole from the shoe, and then ripped the seams that held the upper together. Then I started sewing the insole to the upper, and used E6000 to glue them all together.

Initially I had the idea that the internal "shoe" I made would be removable, but when testing it by walking around outside I found myself slipping all over the place! So, I ended up gluing them in.

Hi, i don't know, what do you want to put on your suit, you want a amazing spiderman shoes ? asics dirt dog, or just simple shoes ?
when i have start my costume, my first idea is to take a simple shoes ( like this one ) chaussures-basses-toile-umbro.jpg
i have purchase this shoes for 8 dollars !
you cut the shoes to keep just the sole.
you just have to gluing the shoes at your suit and its perfect.
it's my idea, ask me if you want more explication in details and good luck!

Well, if you're doing what I did, you're not meant to cut the uppers off, you're meant to separate them along the glue line (using a bladed tool on the glue, not the material, to guide the process) so that the uppers retain their shape when removed. :) Then when you glue the soles, the glue should also be applied to bond the uppers to the the fabric and sole (what I did was cut several small slashes in the bottom of the fabric "sock" to ensure all of the layers were making contact with the adhesive.
